Template talk:Buried
Topic[edit]
We should really build a better format for these than "template:box" - it's really unfriendly in many ways... ħuman 17:07, 9 November 2008 (EST)
- What ways? . . . weaseLOId~ 18:24, 9 November 2008 (EST)
- ... elucidate ... please on the "ways" ... and butter 18:32, 9 November 2008 (EST)
- One, it makes an uneven border around the image. Two, it forces one line to be bold, and the rest not. Three, without kludging, it makes for non-vertically centered text. Four, the width can't be adjusted. I would be more impressed with self-contained templates (copied form others, of course), that just look good on their own. ħuman 21:10, 9 November 2008 (EST)
- Per the latest edit. Template:Box SUCKS GIANT PICKLES. Please rewrite this so it doesn't use it, so we can delete the crappy template that is uncommented. ħuman 23:15, 23 November 2008 (EST)
- I put in the bars precisely because I don't know how to make a template, otherwise I would have fixed it better. I just tried to jury-rig something to make it look less awkward. Sorry. --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 23:22, 23 November 2008 (EST)
- No need to apologize, Arcan, you did the best you could! Problem is that this template is based on one (box) that is undocumented and not very user-friendly. ħuman 23:26, 23 November 2008 (EST)

How's this:
and marmite 23:59, 23 November 2008 (EST) might want to resize the pic to fit in the border... Wazza (Not Wazzock, Wazza)Approach the Presence 00:06, 24 November 2008 (EST)
- Or resize the border specs to lap around the pix ;) ħuman 00:10, 24 November 2008 (EST)
- How's that look now? PNG was Jpeg - removed background. (difficult to align picture using divs) and marmite 00:22, 24 November 2008 (EST)
- Gives it a bit of a 3D look? and marmite 00:24, 24 November 2008 (EST)
- I like the 3D. Better than the white background, at the very least. --YossieSpring in Fialta 04:38, 24 November 2008 (EST)
- I like the way it sticks in front of the border. It's much better design wise, looks quite comic-book like (where characters jump out of frames, a really nice touch graphics wise), if some pictures can have transparency, it's worth using it.
- Second point is whether this applies to essays only or do we have free reign to put this on userpages if they get out of hand too? I do agree that this is much better than pure vapourisation as it allows a good degree of freedom of speech while keeping puerile hate-mongering controlled. ArmondikoVmoral 10:43, 24 November 2008 (EST)
- This is really for articles, for essays we just put "driveby" at the top. Wait, didn't the gravestone used to say "really unpleasant article"? I guess this one is for essays now??? Also, I changed the sample version here to a fixed width instead of percentage. ħuman 16:26, 24 November 2008 (EST)

- Xferred - don't know how to do the link though - sorry. and marmite 01:18, 25 November 2008 (EST)
- ps. (The tab'll be sitting just above it though - does it matter?) and marmite 01:20, 25 November 2008 (EST)
- Only slightly. To do the link, copy the link target from the ...... oh shoot, yeah, it ain't simple. It will look like one of those PAGENAME things, with &action=history tacked on the end. Nice to have, not critical though. PS, thanks for fixing the gravestone message!!!!! And for fixing this thing! ħuman 01:29, 25 November 2008 (EST)

Article or essay?[edit]
I prefer using the "essay" version of the gravestone to the "article" one. Things we bury under this are pretty much all going to be the work of one author & have a POV that we disagree with, so in that sense they are essays, even if they are in the mainspace. Referring to them as articles implicitly legitimises them, whereas referring to them to essays makes it clear they are an opinion piece. Perhaps the best thing is to move anything we are burying to essayspace before putting this on it. The first version of the image said "really unpleasant article or essay" so we could return to using that; I just shortened it to "really unpleasant essay" as I thought it was too many words to be on the small size graphic. weaseLOId~ 07:37, 25 November 2008 (EST)
- I was thinking "article" because it's more general, but I see your point about it legitimising it. But you're definitely right that since these things are, almost with exception, the work of an individual POV, they're technically essays so need to be moved there anyway, regardless of whether they're mean and nasty or fairly well done. ArmondikoVmoral 07:43, 25 November 2008 (EST)
- I've changed it back to the "essay" version for now. Could be "article or essay" again if that's preferred. weaseLOId~ 08:00, 25 November 2008 (EST)
- How about "really unpleasant content"? And can we have all the versions of the image(s) pasted in here for comparison? Also, we could use a parameter to pick which image to use in each case? ħuman 16:58, 25 November 2008 (EST)
- Good idea on the image parameter! On it! and marmite 17:04, 25 November 2008 (EST)

Why? and marmite 07:58, 27 November 2008 (EST)
- Because it was adding itself to the category. - User 08:06, 27 November 2008 (EST)

Category[edit]
"Buried treasure" is just wrong. If someone looks at our cats, that's what it will show up as? How about "buried turds"? "Landfill"? "Junkyard"? I'm looking for ideas before I do something onoplastic, I mean, unilateral... ħuman 00:52, 24 December 2008 (EST)
- Thanks! ħuman 13:44, 24 December 2008 (EST)
