Thank you for blocking my IP-- Asclepius staff.png-PalMD --4 out of 5 doctors recommend RW for gas pain 15:57, 14 March 2008 (EDT)

It's up to you if you want to unblock it, but you keep logging on with different IPs and I can't remember who the fuck it is! Jollyfish.gifGenghis Marauding 15:59, 14 March 2008 (EDT)

I was quite concerned when I saw the threat to stalk me here. I came close to contacting the police and saying, "Someone is threateing me over the Internet". A day later all the women were threatened with being stalked. A day later still they threatened the men as well. They picked on the more vulnerable women first. The group knows that newcomers may misinterpret the lulz. This Wiki will grow better if newcomers get a good impression. I accept it's not your responsibility.Barbara Shack 16:40, 14 March 2008 (EDT)

Barbara, I do not know who runs RWW, although I could probably have a guess at their online IDs. I appreciate your concern that you may be stalked. Unfortunately this is probably a joke in poor taste. I recommend that you keep any personal information to a minimum, and if necessary make it up like I me to throw people off the scent. Jollyfish.gifGenghis Marauding 16:53, 14 March 2008 (EDT)

I won't give any more information about where I live than I already have.Barbara Shack 17:19, 14 March 2008 (EDT)

Barbara Shack, I apologize if the "stalkboxes" caused you distress. It was my idea, but I had no intent of malice. I assert that we do not specifically search for any information on a user. If a user posts their real name and country of residence on this wiki, and FalseFlag or I happen to come across it, we consider it fair game. If you have any objections to the information contained in your stalkbox, or with the stalkbox itself, I will accordingly remove it. As for "picking on the more vulnerable women first", I was not aware of any differences in vulnerability between them. SusanG was first[1] because her article happened to be on recent changes at the time (Human came second[2]). Sincerely, Hans Johnson as in "keep ya hans off my" (cover your eyes!) 17:45, 14 March 2008 (EDT)

Moved from user page (castle)[edit]

I fear the lulz here and in Rationalwikiwiki may be harming Rationalwiki. It means only users who like that type of fun stay and we lose many potentially useful freethinkers. I also ask myself how much unspoken resentment there is over lulz. I suspect resentment comes out during eg Headless Chicken Mode. I’m relatively new here. I’m not omniscient.Barbara Shack 14:58, 16 March 2008 (EDT)

I’ve had my share of unfair blocks and I know it hurts like being banned form a club where you are used to going. I added a verse to the Wiktionary entry on Viagra. I thought it illustrated popular use of the word. Someone considered it vandalism. They could have simply reverted it and asked me not to add it again. Instead they blocked me for a month. I was told there was as section of Wiktionary where I could state my case. Each time I tried to edit there they blocked me. I don’t know what to make of Rationalwikiwiki. I suspect it is a mixture of truth and exaggeration. I am concerned that people should not be blocked without good reason. Blocking people at their own request is acceptable. Barbara Shack 15:12, 16 March 2008 (EDT)

Barbara, first of all Rationalwikiwki is nothing to do with this site, I believe it was started by some juveniles who found that their own actions here were not met with universal acclaim. Yes, several editors here have edited RWW but largely it has been in the form of self-deprecation. For myself it's just too much navel-gazing so I ignore it. I commiserate that you have been blocked at other wikis but our ethos is to keep a very light hand on the tiller. I notice that your block log is empty so you cannot be treading on too many toes. I know that some of your edits have been reverted and we all feel a bit slighted when that happens, I suggest that you take it to the talk page if you think it unfair as edit revert wars are frowned upon here as much as at any wiki. There is a wide diversity of views on this site so in the unlikely event of you finding yourself blocked, emailing another sysop would propably elicit a sympatehtic response somewhere. I appreciate that you may not like all the lulz but this is mainly confined to talk pages or Rationalwiki:Fun. I think that you are a serious editor and would not like to see you leave so please let me know if you have any issue. For better or worse, the lulz is an integral part of this site although I don't even get all of it. Jollyfish.gifGenghis Marauding 16:27, 16 March 2008 (EDT)
"...it was started by some juveniles who found that their own actions were not met with universal accliam." Really? I was under the impression we started it recognizing the desperate need on the internet for a site with a demographic of six people. But that may just be me :-) --Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 18:01, 16 March 2008 (EDT)

I don't know what you're referring to Bohdan but you are culpable of much of the stupidity here. So I wouldn't complain too much. Jollyfish.gifGenghis Marauding 16:27, 16 March 2008 (EDT)
I was refering to " I am concerned that people should not be blocked without good reason." And I can't take responsibility for all the stupidity, you and Bob M are certainly the most prolific in that area :) TmtamesP 16:34, 16 March 2008 (EDT)
Well Bohdan I think you should voice your concerns on Wiktionary where Barbara was blocked, or better still, why not use your omnimpotent sysop powers at Conservapedia to make the world a fairer place? Jollyfish.gifGenghis Marauding 16:43, 16 March 2008 (EDT)
I can't, my powers are not omnimpotent. TmtamesP 16:47, 16 March 2008 (EDT)

I have thought this over for a few days. I think I was guilty of what I’m complaining about here. I disregarded how humiliating that verse is for a particular type of man and paid the penalty. Because I couldn’t see people’s reactions over the Internet I became careless. Illustrations of how a word is used are common in Wiktionary. At least they were when I used to edit there. The block expired long ago but I’m fed up of the site. A different sysop might well have decided that verse was a cool illustration of the use of the word and blocked anyone who tried to remove it.Barbara Shack 06:13, 18 March 2008 (EDT)

By the way, such a piece of verse would fit perfectly on this site. Better usage example for wiktionary: "The gentleman arrived for his date prepared with a condom and a Viagra pill." Hehe. Yah, it's hard to use "Viagra" in a sentence with offending some stressed-out middle-aged guy who is trying to improve his marriage. humanUser talk:Human 13:56, 18 March 2008 (EDT)

eee pc[edit]

How do you like it? Are you running Windows or Linux? PFoster 18:57, 19 May 2008 (EDT)

I bought the 20GB Linux version and installed Win XP over it and have an 8 GB SDHC card running as a fixed disk. so a total of 28 GB isn't bad for a small machine. It's handy for travelling as you can use the WiFi for connecting to the intertubes. It's also much easier to use in economy class where you normally end up like a praying mantis when trying to type. I also installed Office 2003 which runs fine. The 900 has a great little screen. The keyboard isn't as good as a Psion 5 but is adequate as long as you don't have too big fingers. There's an issue in the UK in that the lower capacity batteries were preinstalled while in Hong Kong they have replaced them with larger capacity. However, the latest drivers are supposed to improve battery life. It also starts pretty quick so is easy to start up for a short session. I've also got a 700 which I had on order for 4 months but the 900 is nicer to use. The 700 now is a bedside skype and slingbox machine in my bedroom (or bathroom). Jollyfish.gifGenghismarauding 19:22, 19 May 2008 (EDT)
You "bought" linux? Isn't is supposed to be free? ħumanUser talk:Human 23:15, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
He bought the eeepc with Linux installed! (versions of linux cost anything up to £100 over here in't shops) SusanG  ContribsTalk 23:20, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
The WinXP versions of the eeePC come with less memory for the same size. While I could probably live with the Linux version compatability with my Win software was an issue so I installed an old copy of XP instead which means I can use an old version of Photoshop Elements. Also Linux doesn't have the driver support of XP. The 900 version is great although there is talk of a 901 with an Intel Atom processor coming out soon. However, most of the discussion groups don't appear to think this is an improvement and may be more eeexpensive. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade the battery pack in the next week or so. It's nice and portable as the unit weighs less than a kilo. Jollyfish.gifGenghismarauding 05:36, 7 June 2008 (EDT)
