User talk:Blue/Polls
You may need to define your political terms better. In the UK, Liberal has often been in the centre, with Labour (socialist) and Conservative either side. Look up RationalWiki:Moral_Matrix to see how people identified themselves in January. GenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 23:57, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
- Are you all so rotund as to not want to write your name three times? :)
- But I don't use terms like Labour or Socialist. It says "self-identify," not your party. Lyra § talk 00:03, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
- People "self identify" in the ways that are useful to them. Your poll is narrow in its scope (very USA-centric!), and thus relatively useless - so far. Your abortion "answers" aren't very allowing of views you haven't thought of, for example. This "poll" is more like "show Lyra where you fit into what she knows or thinks about politics", rather than "tell me what you think". But it's still fun ;) ħuman 00:14, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

- Fraid Genghis beat me to it, I don't self identify with any of your classifications - I'm a definite socialist. Liberal is an American construct having little application in the rest of the known universe. Conservative (American version) would be recognised as neo-fascist over here. :-) ContribsTalk 00:17, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

- Susan, what is this "blanket rule" of which you speak? And condemn? ħuman 00:33, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
- There shouldn't be a prescribed rule regarding abortion. The circumstances will be different in every case and must be allowed for. That's all - I've no really hard & fast opinions on the matter, being not a parent & past the age where that would be possible anyhow. ContribsTalk 00:40, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
- Susan, I self-identify as Liberal (capital L) as in the Party, but not in the tacky American way, which really gets up my goat. GenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 00:42, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
- Oh, I thought it was the "smother the baby with a blanket if it gets on your nerves" rule. Nevermind... ħuman 00:46, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Abortion[edit]
I would like to voice an objection to voting on an upper limit on abortion as I see it as a failure somewhere. It is the wrong focus. Often delays are placed in the way of a woman wanting an abortion, the sooner the better in my opinion. And in the case of rape then the morning after pill should be freely available. I dislike abortion being used as a primary method of birth control, it shows a failure of proper sex education or access to effective means of contraception. Unfortunately it is often the most vocal opponents of abortion who also want to withhold sex education and contraception from teenagers. GenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 01:09, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
- I do agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. However, once a situation is in motion, a state must have rules.
- You can vote "no opinion" or "common sense shall dictate." Lyra § talk 01:12, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
