Should this page be presented factually?[edit]

Is the British esotery funny here if its not true? Faggots and spotted dick were deleted at CP despite being true and being presented straightforwardly here show up CP's paranoia. This article on Hebden Bridge was funny at CP becasue it undermined their trustworthy credentials but I'm not sure of its purpose on RW. Maybe we could have a CP archive where pages like this are preserved for posterity. Mad Min 07:33, 26 May 2007 (CDT)

Interesting question. I considered putting up some of my CP articles, but I don't think there is a point in putting up anything here which is a spoof, per se, unless it is humorous, and people can see the humour. The fun of this article at CP was that you could not tell whetehr the info is real or not - it could well be (and for all I know, is). Knowing HB, it probably isn't. As you say, I am not sure of its value here.

The point about Faggots & Spotted Dick were that they were attempts to get the titles of stuff onto CP, because they appeared to run counter to the FF Policy, even though they were legitimate. For that reason they had a purpose, and allowed people to spend a lot of time arguing with Sysops about such matters, to make poijts, and to show the policy for what it was. However, I like the idea of having the 'British Culture Article here, and lots of the stuff has been written in a style that treats it as if it were an attempt to 'understand it' for the US, and that can be amusing.--CatWatcher 08:01, 26 May 2007 (CDT)

If it is, indeed, fictional or a parody, why not just add category:parody article to it? The cat can then explain wtf is going on. Or, a template at the top? Like, "This largely fictional article appeared in this form, and was accepted, at the repository of all Truth, conservapaedie" humanbe in 00:45, 30 May 2007 (CDT)

Maybe a bit off topic, but any spoof articles here should spoof CP - Discuss (somewhere else). Mad Min 08:38, 26 May 2007 (CDT)

Forget I said that. 80% of their articles read like spooves anyway (spooves - is that the right word?), mostly the stuff on science. Mad Min 08:42, 26 May 2007 (CDT)
or stuff like this could go in the Conservapedia: space, and again be marked as mostly fiction? humanbe in 00:45, 30 May 2007 (CDT)
I'm not really sure what I want doing with this article to be honest - I merely gave it a home here because it was shortened somewhat on CP and because a friend phoned me last night asking what had happened to it. As to the factual content, some of it is true. The purpose of the article was to inject as many subtle references to lesbians in as possible - largely because Hebden Bridge is considered by many to be the lesbian capital of Great Britain. It probably should be moved to somewhere that explicitly states it's a spoof. Trashbat 09:04, 26 May 2007 (CDT)

I just want to say I've actually been to Hebden Bridge, on my way in & out of Todmorden. Nobody told me to look for the lesbians while I was there, though. --jtltalk 10:16, 26 May 2007 (CDT)

You missed out! I used to go out a lot in Hebden Bridge when I worked in that part of the world. In reality, it's a nice place, somewhere I could happily live. Trashbat 10:24, 26 May 2007 (CDT)

No longer presented as "fact"[edit]

I've added it to the spoof category and put an intro linking to the original. Trashbat 11:38, 23 June 2007 (CDT)

Apparently not so far out?[edit]

According to the Beeb that is it's a lesbian haven. Scream!! (talk) 16:27, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
