2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

@GrammarCommie Trolling may cause emotional distress, but it usually does no such thing. Being annoyed by a troll does not distress most adults. Admittedly, some trolls are truly rotten people.Ariel31459 (talk) 23:35, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
For an article specifically about trolling, it should for sure mention the infamous website 4chan, specifically /b/ and /pol/ where a lot of the online trolling is done. They would be a case example of some of the real life damage trolling can do, such as the 'Bald for Bieber' and 'Cutting for Bieber' where trolls convinced teenage girls Justin Bieber had cancer and that they should shave their heads in honor of him, and/or even cutting their arms. This youtube channel, Internet Historian, makes quality, comedic professional videos with a neutral tone summarizing some of the most notable shenanigans 4chan has gotten up to. They're mostly covered in his first videos though before he started branching out to different content. Cumulus Precipitation 05:29, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
Under concern trolling, some examples to include might be how Fox News likes to pretend there's a 'War on Christmas' because brands are switching to 'Happy Holidays' or more safer terminology because non-Christian customers exist. Another concern trolling example, is how politicians/pundits love, love, LOVE to ask "How we're going to pay for it?" when talking about Medicare-For-All, when it's been shown to actually save money lol.
