2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

Sub-categories[edit]

Would it be worth adding sub-categories (e.g. Category:Non-binary people)? Splainer (talk) 07:23, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Do we currently have any articles on non-binary people? Are we likely to have any soon? Spud (talk) 08:06, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
There's at least one. Possibly more because I haven't checked. Other possible sub-categories would have more entries. Splainer (talk) 08:38, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
Since we recently had some drama here involving a lesbian who was accused, in very strong terms, of being intolerant of asexuals, I don't think this is the right time to symbolically divide the people in this category. Spud (talk) 09:10, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
Plus we need more than one or two people per category. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 09:19, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
I'm not set on the addition of a non-binary category. That was just an example. (There are other enbies who arguably fall within RW's focus -- Zoe Quinn and Jim Sterling come to mind). The aim of this proposal certainly wasn't to divide people. It was to create more specific sub-categories to make it easier for readers to find biography articles that might interest them. An "LGBTQ people" category works as a simple catch-all. But it doesn't really help if someone wants to read specifically about, say, notable trans people. With clear guidelines for inclusion I think such sub-categories would be workable. Splainer (talk) 09:52, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
