Conservapedia talk:Unusable names
Has anyone tried all the I and L just to make sure I thought it only applied to lower case L. - User 22:18, 24 November 2008 (EST)
- It applies in upper cases, at least. Not sure about lower ones. If FrankL is taken you cannot register FrankI (uppercase "i"). I think if any letter is taken you cannot register the lowercase version, but I'm not sure. I'll check sometime when I have a spare ip. DickTurpis 22:26, 24 November 2008 (EST)
Brilliant.[edit]
I love this. However, what's to stop them from eventually just reverting all the blocked NameX accounts to nothing and starting over? Publius 23:53, 25 November 2008 (EST)
- Well, I don't know if there is any way to delete accounts. They can block them, and they can blank the userpages, but I don't know if they can uncreate them. Besides, they're not all vandals/parodists. just most of them. DickTurpis 00:06, 26 November 2008 (EST)
You sexist bastards[edit]
Why no girlie names? Lily Ta, wack! 05:47, 26 November 2008 (EST)
- I think you answered your own question with your heading. DickTurpis 10:12, 26 November 2008 (EST)
- Men and women can both use these, thus avoiding ASchlafly's unique brand of "chivalry". Wazza (Not Wazzock, Wazza)Approach the Presence 10:14, 26 November 2008 (EST)
- Make some lady-ish names you chauvinist pigs! HelenaC should be first! (then HelenaBC, then HelenaBCE... geddit? Oh, I make myself, and myself only, laugh so hard!) ħuman 00:16, 2 December 2008 (EST)

Rick R[edit]
Please don't prevent RickRolling ;) ħuman 00:16, 2 December 2008 (EST)
- Sorry RickRoll was blocked on sight by BethanyS, keeps up with her internet memes, unlike someone. - User 01:21, 2 December 2008 (EST)

Variants[edit]
I discovered that there is a Jacobz, but no JacobZ. Do I still count the "Z" initial for Jacob as being taken? What about variations like Jacob Z, Jacob Z., etc? Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 01:17, 6 January 2009 (EST)
- I don't know if we're going to bother with the "punctuated" permutations? As far as the small vs. cap, if Jacobz doesn't prevent JacobZ being registered, it's still open. (We could experiment easily here of course) ħuman 14:58, 8 January 2009 (EST)
- Existence of Tarquink will prevent creation of TarquinK, or at least I've seen this happen with some names and letters, but it might not be all. I tried to create BillD, I believe it was, but was told it was too similar to Billd. I guess this should probably be tested with other letters, just to make sure. Name for this exercise[edit]
If anyone decides to make a concerted effort to fill up these grids, I suggest that it should be called Project Rumpelstiltskin.--Kriss AkabusiAAAAWOOOOGAAAR!!1 05:04, 8 January 2009 (EST)
- Sounds good. Or maybe Operation: Rumpelstiltskin? DickTurpis 15:05, 8 January 2009 (EST)
Names for this list[edit]
I went over the 20 most popular male names each year from 1966 - 1996, assuming these to be the most common ages for CP editors, and I think we should try to confine this chart to those for now. They are (along with the most common variants):
- Adam
- Andrew – Andy
- Anthony – Tony
- Austin
- Brandon
- Brian
- Charles
- Christopher – Chris
- Daniel – Dan
- David – Dave
- Eric
- John - Jack
- Jacob
- James - Jim
- Jason
- Jeffrey - Jeff
- Jeremy
- Jonathan - Jon
- Joseph - Joe
- Joshua - Josh
- Justin
- Kevin
- Kyle
- Mark
- Matthew - Matt
- Michael - Mike
- Nicholas - Nick
- Paul
- Richard – Rick – Rich – Dick
- Robert – Bob – Rob
- Ryan
- Scott
- Steven – Steve
- Thomas – Tom
- Timothy – Tim
- Tyler
- William – Will – Bill
- Zachary – Zach – Zak
I left out the nicknames that end in -y or -ie, as they exist for just about every name, and aren't to common for adults, in most cases. (Likewise, while it might be reasonable for Andy to say "DavidP is taken, take DaveP" I'm not sure if a 40 year old man who had been known as William all his life would like be told he's suddenly "Billy"). I'm shocked no Benjamins or Edwards made the top 20 in this 30 years period, oh well. It seems to me all names should be removed that do are either not on this list or have less than 6 entries. Herman, Alfred, and others don't really seem to be necessary, not while so many common names are missing. DickTurpis 15:51, 8 January 2009 (EST)
- While I mostly agree that these names should be the focus, why not leave some of the less-used ones if they have already been substantially knocked out? ħuman 16:50, 8 January 2009 (EST)
- I agree, that's why I made the exception for those with 6 or more entries. DickTurpis 16:56, 8 January 2009 (EST)
