Forum:Use of RevisionDelete beyond disclosures

It appears that RevisionDelete has started to be used, against all original intent as well as in violation of presently standing Wiki policy, to hide such travesties as disagreeable talk-page posts.
Suggestions have been made that a de facto change in the policy has been wrought. Furthermore, this change has been cited in justifying the hiding of said disagreeable talk-page posts.
What is the current policy? ListenerXTalkerX 21:47, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
- The sysop guide is not 'presently standing policy'. It's a guide for sysops. Various edits have been hidden for being libelous, as I understand it, and I don't see what's controversial about that. We don't have castiron policies. We adapt our behavior when common sense suggests it. -- Mei (talk) 22:08, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

- What "last resort" would justify the use of RevisionDelete? ListenerXTalkerX 22:23, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, I don't know. I don't think we've seen it yet. ContribsTalk 22:24, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
- We have hidden Andy's home address and a couple of edits were someone said something about a CP sysop which we could get us or the user sued for defamation, both of those I find acceptable. What was the nature of the hidden comment because as a general rule I don't think it should be used. - π 23:31, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
- If memory serves it was MC calling us cunts. And me unsigging him. (there was another, I believe, but I didn't read it) ContribsTalk 23:34, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
- (EC)As one revision wasn't hidden properly, I can see that it is just old fuckwit. You can revert him, but hide/show is being abused in this case in my opinion. (After EC) Thanks Susan. - π 23:35, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

A definite abuse of hide/show. Suggest the hide/show abuser be tarred and feathered. TheoryOfPractice (talk) 01:02, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- I concur with the lynch mob. ħuman 01:12, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- Same here. Revisiondelete is for libel and for outing of personal information (that crap with TK's mother comes to mind). This latest hidden edit was of no consequence - just MC mouthing off. All you have to do is click rollback and that's it. No need for special measures. — Unsigned, by: Totnesmartin / talk / contribs
