Unrelated to RationalWiki's goals, and not funny enough to be Funspaced. I wanted to delete it right away, but having earned a bit of a bad reputation for such impulsive deletions, I felt it would be better to discuss it first. --Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 14:39, 30 January 2008 (EST)

But, but... it's Eric Clapton! --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 14:57, 30 January 2008 (EST)
Strangely enough, we used to have an article on God, I remember because HoG kept removing the "Clapton is God" part. I thought maybe it got moved to "fun", but, no. And there is nothing in the deletion log. Odd.
Anyway, it could easily be categorized under "deities", but only deserves to live if it gets longer. And it's hard to see how it get missionified. It could be "see also"d from heroin, of course... humanUser talk:Human 15:32, 30 January 2008 (EST)
I'll vote for "keep" as long as the entry makes clear that Hendrix is in fact the supreme guitar deity. Clapton can be an Apollo or an Ares along with Jimmy Page. And no, I won't accept any offers of a Holy Trinity. :P --Robledo 15:51, 30 January 2008 (EST)

Teh supreme guitar deity is Leslie West. Clapton hasn't done anything interesting since Wheels of Fire. (ducking and awaiting the inevitable sound of HERETIC!) Secret Squirrel 21:48, 30 January 2008 (EST)

LESLIE WEST?!?!?! That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Mountain sucked. Clapton is good - somehow a letter got dropped from that phrase, leading to much embarrassment for Mr. Clapton and his family. Besides Hendrix, who was in a league of his own, my vote for rock guitar god goes to Frank Zappa. PFoster 23:12, 30 January 2008 (EST)
I was not a hardcore Clapton fan... until the Concert for George. You cannot talk about Eric unless you have seen his tribute (and many others') to his dear friend. Having seen it, 27 times, I have to say, Eric Clapton is not only God, he relinquishes the honor and loves hid friends. Life was hard, back in the day. This dvd/movie, is a testament to the survivors. humanUser talk:Human 23:30, 30 January 2008 (EST)
He can't be that good if my mother likes him. --Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 00:11, 31 January 2008 (EST)
Let's leave yo momma out of this, briefly. She wanted our "thing" to stay private. K? humanUser talk:Human 00:17, 31 January 2008 (EST)
Okay okay, Mark Farner then. Geezus whaddaya expectin', squirrels to have good taste in music? Secret Squirrel 07:35, 31 January 2008 (EST)
I'd trust a squirrel before I'd trust a human. -- etsawnamuħ   12:54, 31 January 2008 (EST)

It is a tad difficult to see how this should be on mission.--Bobbing up 14:18, 31 January 2008 (EST)

But, but... it's Eric Clapton! --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 14:21, 31 January 2008 (EST)
Yes, I see that. Perhaps we need a small addition to the mission statement in that case?--Bobbing up 14:23, 31 January 2008 (EST)
I don't think that's really necessary. I understand that there are certain peopole who believe that Eric Clapton is not awesome. This is obviously a crank idea. Since our mission includes refuting crank ideas, and since refuting an idea about a subject necessarily includes having an article about that subject, it logically follows that we should have an article about Eric Clapton. And that it needs to be much longer than it is now.
Are you convinced, or do I need to pull more sophistry out of the air? --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 14:36, 31 January 2008 (EST)
An interesting argument. Virtually flawless in fact. In order to refute it I would need to sharpen up the definitions in our crank article - but that would be cheating. It is a possibly worrying prescient however.--Bobbing up 14:57, 31 January 2008 (EST)
Until you can scientifically prove Clapton is awesome (and show how he evolved using the scientific method), I vote to terminate with reverence. ThunderkatzHo! 22:13, 2 February 2008 (EST)
One. Clapton is God. 2. He lost alleged deity-status due to personal reasons. 3. He many more times thrice again gained the status of deity. 4. Have you watched(/listened to) the Concert For George? If you have not examined the humble and yet insanely brilliant guitar player in action - in tribute, and touching stones he laid forty friggin years ago - you know not of what you speak. humanUser talk:Human 00:02, 3 February 2008 (EST)
Leo Kottke is better! :P -- etsawnamuħ   00:09, 3 February 2008 (EST)
Great guitarist, very talented guy... But a racist nonetheless MarcusCicero 08:57, 3 April 2008 (EDT)
There's been enough irrational discussion of this topic to prove the worship of Clapton 1s a cult, and the ranking of guitarists a pseudoscience. Rational Edfaith 09:04, 3 April 2008 (EDT)

Clapton a Racist?[edit]

Elaborate please, Cicero...PFoster 10:42, 3 April 2008 (EDT)

He's going on one drunken quote when he praised Enoch Powell's views. SusanG 10:54, 3 April 2008 (EDT)
Clapton never took it back though, which is the point. He inspired the birth of the 'rock against racism' movement. MarcusCicero 10:23, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

Clapton Not God, Vini Reilly God instead[edit]

You are all clueless. Obviously, Clapton is not God. Many other old white farts also ripped off BB King and Bo Diddley for a living, but the Man Who Created The Universe And Everything In It was Vini Reilly, who does not play the guitar, he just looks at it and makes it want to play itself. You can post your Clapton Is God nonsense on some other Commie Pinko blog, we don't ignore fact around here. DogP 11:49, 3 April 2008 (EDT)

Last I checked, we don't assert that Clapton is God, only that his fans in the sixties thought he was. humanUser talk:Human 14:18, 3 April 2008 (EDT)
We don't need your kind of liberal hogwash here, Human. Gotspeed? DogP 14:24, 3 April 2008 (EDT)
Nor yours, punk. You and O'Reilly can take a flying jump at a doughhnut. Rational Edfaith 19:54, 3 April 2008 (EDT)
RationalEd, you're clueless if you don't realise that Vini Reilly is God. Everyone knows this fact and there's no contesting it. DogP 21:44, 3 April 2008 (EDT)
Gather some faggots, its time to burn the heathen at the stake. Worshipping False Gods and all that. Break out the marshmallows! Rational Edfaith 10:43, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

Seriously, why do we have this?[edit]

It's off mission, unfunny, & virtually an orphan page. Move back to fun, or bin it. €₳$£ΘĪÐWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 17:50, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

I originally thought it was a fun article based on various RW 1.0 in jokes like the Helena Bonham Carter one. Scarlet A.pngtheist 17:54, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
