RationalWiki:Active sanctions

From RationalWiki
(Redirected from RationalWiki:SANCTION)
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The following is a list of all non-standard sanctions on RationalWiki.

These sanctions are applied based on anything that the community has voted on. These usually come from cases in the Chicken coop or on ATIM. All of these are applied based on votes by the mob and are logged here to make sure that the community can keep track of them.

If you are listed on this page and want to appeal your sanction, the best location to do so is the place where the sanction was first applied (so if you received your sanction on ATIM, then you appeal it on ATIM. If you obtained your sanction in the coop, you appeal it in the coop).

For maintainers/moderators wanting to add to this list:

  • When a sanction expires, link to the relevant appeal if the sanction was indefinite.
  • Diffs are preferred, but in lieu of delayed updates, linking to a relevant ATIM or Coop archive is also permissible.
  • Permabanned users can be moved to the Expired sanctions section. Link to the relevant Coop diff for the ban appeal. Should a permabanned user appeal, their old sanctions should be moved back to active sanctions.
  • Usernames should be linked with pipe syntax (a single | with no text behind it in the link) for consistency.

The list is designed to be flexible. New types of sanctions may be added to this list at any point, and as long as there are active sanctions on a user, the sanction in question will be kept track of here.

Interaction bans[edit]

Often, a problematic editor only causes problems with one or two other editors. To this extent, an interaction ban may be considered more useful. Often, a simple two-way interaction ban between certain users is enough to prevent disruptive slapfights that do not require resorting to permanently removing most of their abilities from the site.

An interaction ban limits the user from doing the following when it comes to the user they are interaction banned with:

  • Edit their user talkpage. This extends to subpages in their userspace and essay talkpages.
  • Reply to them in discussions. Participation in the same discussions is still permitted, but direct responses are not.
  • Reference them anywhere on RationalWiki, directly or indirectly.
  • Revert their edits in any shape, way, or form through the mediawiki interface.

If you find someone breaking their interaction ban, any non-interaction banned sysop with the rule breaker is permitted to hand out a short block. Repeated violations should be reported on either the ATIM or in the Chicken coop.

Notice[edit]

This is a formal notice that you are hereby banned from interacting with USERNAME.

Specifically, you are banned from doing the following actions:

  • Edit their user talkpage. This extends to subpages in their userspace and essay talkpages.
  • Reply to them in discussions. Participation in the same discussions is still permitted, but direct responses are not.
  • Reference them anywhere on RationalWiki, directly or indirectly.
  • Revert their edits in any way, shape, or form.

This sanction can be enforced by any sysop with incrementing blocks and attached talkpage notices. Repeated violation may result in another Chicken coop or ATIM case being raised against you with the potential for further sanctions.

Topic bans[edit]

Topic bans are a solution that is useful if an editor causes consistent problems in a specific section of the wiki. Whilst everyone has their own strengths, some users insist on editing in areas they are weak in. Topic bans are a simple answer to this.

Editors are topic banned from a certain subject. This prevents them from editing pages and sections related to that subject. Similarly to the interaction ban, a topic ban can be enforced by any sysop through incrementing blocks. Editors who insist on continuing to edit articles on subjects they are topic banned from can be put in the vandal bin by any sysop. Repeated violations should be reported on either the ATIM or in the Chicken coop.

Notice[edit]

You have been topic banned from all articles relating to SUBJECT. This means you are not allowed to make edits to these articles or edit their talkpages. Violating this sanction may result in escalating blocks or vandal binning of your account. Repeated violations may result in a vote to permanently block your account. Creating alternate accounts to bypass this topic ban is not allowed. If you want to appeal this topic ban, feel free to open a case over on the moderator noticeboard.
