I thought John Locke is a character on Lost. Sterilesnore! 17:14, 21 July 2008 (EDT)
- He is. But this guy is a bit more important. -- Gen. S.T. Shrink I can has rank? 17:16, 21 July 2008 (EDT)
- Agreed but only because I don't watch Lost. NightFlareStill doesn't have a (nonstub) RWW article. 19:46, 21 July 2008 (EDT)
- The character is named after him. Not only that, Lost had other characters names after philosophers, like Mikhail Bakunin (a Russian anarchist) but also Desmond Hume (for David Hume-they're also both Scottish).Mcc1789 (talk) 12:48, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Tabula rasa[edit]
A BoN has removed a pothole calling Tabula rasa "bullshit". I agree with this edit and think it should stand -BS is usually a bit more self-serving motivation thank Locke would have had. Do we have another article indicating ideas that have been discredited? --TheLateGatsby (talk) 17:50, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Left of Reason[edit]
Should we use "left" and "right" for people who are older than the French Revolution? Also, Locke was notorious for his atheophobia and support of Laissez-faire, which aren't left-wing nor reasonable positions, at least in my opinion. GeeJayK (talk) 03:30, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- @GeeJayK I mean, he's only really "left wing" in his period because he wasn't a full blown monarchist (Burke, De Mastre, etc.) but yeah, using "left/right" in the context of early-mid enlightenment figures is iffy at best. Mainly due to how far they were from our modern political landscape. (Free market capitalists used to be the "left wing" types, again, in contrast to monarchists and proponents of Mercantilism.) ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 03:44, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- @GrammarCommie Even Burke would perhaps be on the left 300 years ago. He was a Whig, not a Tory after all. As far as I know, he and Locke supported the same kind of Monarchy (ie. a Constitutional one). Maybe if we had an article about Robert Filmer, the guy who Locke critized on his First Treatise of Government, we could add the Authoritarian wingnuttery category, but overall these guys are too old to be part of the left/right dichotomy. - @GeeJayK Yeah, I was agreeing with the idea that these guys were too old to use our modern dichotomy. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 04:03, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
