2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.
We are 100% user-supported! Help and donate $5, $10, $20 or whatever you can today with PayPal Logo.png!
Donations so far: $1675.86Goal: $10000

There should be a mention of Ali Maow Maalin [1] here - the peculiar conjunction of three diseases. 82.44.143.26 (talk) 18:08, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Malaria was once seriously used to cure another disease[edit]

Unfortunately WP does not go into much detail on this. Apparently it worked. Goes to show how desperate people must have felt about Syphilis... Pizzameister (talk) 16:58, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

That's like inviting Stalin to drive out Hitler...--Kugelschreiber (talk) 17:06, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
Well that worked too, didn't it? Pizzameister (talk) 17:22, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
Indeed.--Kugelschreiber (talk) 17:23, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
I have heard it claimed if you get a less dangerous strain of malaria and don't treat it, it will prevent infection by more dangerous strains, but it's possible for mosquitoes to carry more than one strain at a time, so this is unlikely to be true.[2] Bongolian (talk) 18:00, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
