Talk:Seventh-day Adventism
Whoa. Easy there. There are many types of 7th-day Adventism, with just as wide a political and theological spectrum as other denominations. It's also unfair to call the Branch Davidians an Adventist "offshoot" - if anything, it's an extremist offshoot of an extremist offshoot (Davidians) of the Adventists. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 15:55, 13 January 2009 (EST)
You should definitely make this article better... I just wanted to put it here becaue I figured it was at least as important as the Mormons and that it deserved a place. 168.229.28.78 11:57, 16 January 2009 (EST)
- I feel that calling this, or any other religion "batshit crazy" is rude, and out of line. I wish that someone would go back and at least make this article strictly FACTUAL and not OPINIONATED. The PATHOS, and ETHOS theory for writing means to evoke emotion in your readers. Not to express your emotion. — Unsigned, by: G5f4d3s2a1 / talk / contribs
- Ha "RUDE" you should hear me about religion: fucking stupid is the mildest. Scream!! (talk) 20:12, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
- Considering what most of religion involves, I thought "batshit crazy" would be a remarkably polite way of putting it. bomination 23:40, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
- As an Adventist, I remember the words of Bill Hicks at such times: "Hey buddy, we're Christians, we don't like what you said." "Then forgive me." That said, I concur that there's a broad spectrum within SDA. My dad is a pro-union Democrat from Alaska with moments of Anti-Catholicism, and he's all over the map in other regards, but he's one of the most respected members of his church. - As a freethinker, I don't think SDA is "batshit" insane. A better word would be 'health woo' and 'don't do this or that or whuzzat' but not "insane". -OpinionatedDragon

Clarity, Please.[edit]
I think it is important to make a clear difference between seventh-Day adventism, the broad movement and the SDA church("Its largest organized church") per se. The article starts by talking about the movement That is what the title is, and talks mostly about the SDA church without ever making a clear distinction particularly in the "activity" section where SDA church and non SDA church activities are along-side. By the time the reader reaches that section of the article he make no difference between the organized church and the movement( which is the actual topic.
- The activities of its largest official organ are (to me) in scope for a page talking about the movement. That said, if you see specific distinctions you'd like made, feel free to edit appropriately? I haven't had time to come back to this article in awhile. Memesis (talk) 07:33, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'm finally researching the offshoots and "cultural Adventist" concept, and will be putting such things into the article as time permits. Memesis (talk) 00:13, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Education?[edit]
It's a minor thing, and may not actually be very applicable considering the sample size is so tiny, but in regards to the SDA education ... I went to SDA schools through 12th grade and got a much better education--science and biology included, than what I hear public schools do (especially in the South).
I know it's not very snarky, and the wiki has an angle of bashing religions, and, again, it may not hold true for all (or even most) of SDA schools, but the tiny paragraph on their education system might need a revision. (And, for the record, most of that science education came from rural Montana, where I not only developed a love for science, but was successfully weaned off the Imperial System).
