Things for the ICE draft[edit]
In 2018, a Pew Research Center poll found that 47% of Americans overall hold an unfavorable view of ICE, while 44% hold a favorable view.[1] The poll also found that support and opposition is largely divided by party lines. 72% of Democrats view ICE unfavorably, 20% favorably.[1] Meanwhile, 72% of Republicans view ICE favorably, 21% unfavorably.[1]
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came out in favor of abolishing ICE during her primary campaign,[2] but does not favor the abolition of deportations.[3] After her primary win, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and New York City Mayor ]]2020_Democratic_Party_presidential_nomination#Bill_de_Blasio|Bill de Blasio]] began supports the abolition of ICE.[4]
Congressmembers Ilhan Omar[5] and Elizabeth Warren[6] favor the abolition as well.
Donald Trump has responded to these calls, saying "You get rid of ICE, you’re going to have a country that you’re going to be afraid to walk out of your house."[7]
