Hey!!! Where did my essay on psychosocial issues in CP go??!!! Spica 04:09, 14 June 2007 (CDT)

The geeks had to move all the essays and such...some sort of technical glitch. Ask human or Linus, they probably know how to revive it properly.--PalMD-yada yada 04:31, 14 June 2007 (CDT)
Thanks PalMD - I've emailed Linus, as he seems to know what he's doing ;) Spica 04:37, 14 June 2007 (CDT)
Good choice; human's and goat-nibblin' idiot!--PalMD-yada yada 04:43, 14 June 2007 (CDT)
And what's wrong with goat?? He's a fine, goat-lovin' human be-in.DocSock 04:44, 14 June 2007 (CDT)

Spica The Hiver's Missing Essay[edit]

Will on of the SysOps *please* find my fucking missing essay? I need to finish it. Spica 17:08, 30 June 2007 (CDT)

That's weird. It's not in the deletion or move logs. I'm not a sysop, so I can't do more than help look for it, hopefully someone's got an answer. If it helps, you can probably recover the text from here. --Kels 17:19, 30 June 2007 (CDT)
Not a sysop either, but as Kels as just pointed out, it seems to show if you show it as a diff but not otherwise. So the text all seems to be there in Kels's link -- Stevo (talk) 17:22, 30 June 2007 (CDT)
The software appears not to like the ampersand in the essay title. However if you use the full url you can access it: [1]. I went to see about moving it but the move page didn't recognise the full title either, so I didn't want to try it. If you're not too worried about the essay's history I'd say you should create a new article without the ampersand Essay:Psychosocial_Issues_of_Conservapedia_and_its_Contributors, paste the text in and continue from there. -- Stevo (talk) 17:35, 30 June 2007 (CDT)
Well Spica, I took the plunge and moved it, and it seems to have worked. You can now access your essay at Essay:Psychosocial Issues of Conservapedia and its Contributors (also visible in the category). -- Stevo (talk) 17:57, 30 June 2007 (CDT)
Thank you, thank you, thank you, everyone for your help! Spica the Happy Hiver Spica 14:52, 1 July 2007 (CDT)

Trouble sorting[edit]

Would it be okay if I added "{{DEFAULTSORT:{{PAGENAME}}}}" to all essays? Blue (pester) 23:32, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Never mind, I fixed it by adding the above to {{Essay}}. Blue (pester) 23:34, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
I have a question. Once i've stuck sub cats to all of these essays, do you think we would be able to change the default template so it does not put "category:essay" on each of these? In my own personal view, when any catigory gets over 20-50 members, it should be broken down, or you can't sort stuff. But i'm not sure how templates work, or rather how the essay one works.--Pink mowse.pngGodotTue pour toujours, et tu veux vivre aussi. 00:53, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
It seems like subcategories exist for those very big categories. What is your concern - ease of navigation?--ADtalkModerator 00:58, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
I just don't like pages of lists of things. It isn't useful for anyone, you can't see all the essays, etc. It's far better (in my view) to sub class things, and then remove the main header from the pages. Like i did/am doing with the religion category. I think when you come to any portal, all the articles (or in this case, essays) that are within that portal should either fit on one page, or be broken up. --Pink mowse.pngGodotTue pour toujours, et tu veux vivre aussi. 01:11, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
The trouble with mandatory subcatting is that most people don't know about it or don't remember to do it. In effect, it would be left up to a small cadre to keep watching for new essays and then put them into categories. Blue (pester) 02:18, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
I actually wouldn't mind that once and a while. right now there are over 400 essays, so it's hard to see what's what. eventually my evil wicked "take over teh wiki" goal, is to get editors to suggest some essays for "gold stars" (ok, that's stupid, but you know what i mean), that we can or should highlight either in articles, or if really good, maybe even the front page. But like everything else around here, first you need some origination so you can actually see what it is you have. Im also curious, though... would there be a way to make a template that - when added - asked for sub cats? I really have NO idea at all the limits or powers of templates. Pink mowse.pngGodotTue pour toujours, et tu veux vivre aussi. 02:43, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
I think (something analogous to) gold stars for essays would be great, first of all. Second, as templates are just typed in, the way to "ask" for sub cats would be a javascript embellishment like I created for stubs; there's no easy way. We could have the template produce great big angry red letters when a subcat is not provided - that might be the best way. But we would then need to change each of the 400 essays at a time, which I could do using a bot but would take some time setting up. Blue (pester) 02:49, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
That sounds way too complex. I think checking the "essay" only cat once a month would do the same thing, easier. ;-) But we can think about it. Long before that, i need to make sure all the current essays have "sub cats". Especially AD's "why i don't eat meat". I have no idea about a sub cat for that. :-) Pink mowse.pngGodotTue pour toujours, et tu veux vivre aussi. 02:53, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I would agree. You don't need to wait very long - you can see every single essay using Special:AllPages. I've always thought that having a category for essays and debates without subcategories is pointless because of that. Blue (pester) 03:02, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
I'm only up to "e" right now. unlike other Cat's that I'm organizing (yes, i was a librarian in another life), the essays are hard, cause they don't move out of "essay" when i change their cats. but that's the template thing, and I'll get help dealing with that after i get there. E. that's 21 letters to go. ;-) Pink mowse.pngGodotTue pour toujours, et tu veux vivre aussi. 03:06, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

New subcategory "Sexuality"?[edit]

I noticed there exists a subsection on Homosexuality for sorting essays, but no general category on Sexuality. Having atleast one essay on asexuality that's been written on RW, I'd like to ask the dear community if we shouldn't consider moving all sexuality related essays into a new subcategory on the umbrella topic of Sexuality? Or should we make new categories for all sexualities as essays on them come along? I don't yet know how to initiate a vote, but if someone could do that for me, that'd be great. Assuming this suggestion/query even lives to see voting territory. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 22:38, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

List of essay pages not in the Essays category (using DPL)[edit]

These pages would seem to be a problem (as in they should be categorized), given that the categorizations are used to navigate. (I used "notcategory=Essays" instead of "categoriesminmax=0,0", because it looks like the norm/standard for Essay pages is to be in category Essays in addition to any other category/categories.) Something similar can be used for other namespaces where all pages should have at least one category, to list the misses.--ApooftGnegiol (talk) 20:42, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

I cleaned up all the essays without categories or header templates. What's left in this list should be sub-pages and other miscellaneous things. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 22:27, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
I fixed the list, so subpages are now excluded. That left just 11 pages which I categorized, so now it's empty. --ApooftGnegiol (talk) 14:35, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
