An endangered species is a species of which is in danger of extinction from human activities. Authorities classify species as endangered for several reasons, such as decreasing numbers or naturally low population numbers (like giant pandas, which were formerly endangered before breeding programs successfully grew their numbers in captivity).
Humanity was an endangered species at some point in its ancient past, our numbers were so low to the point we were near extinction, but we bounced back because we adapted to our conditions and changed our living conditions (which is how we make tools, settlements, and generally change our environment for our survival). Conservation and preservation[edit]
United States[edit]
The protection of endangered species is a big part of environmentalism, and even governments know the importance of protecting endangered species. The U.S. Endangered Species Act of 1973 created and passed to enact legal protections for native North American wildlife.
The list mostly includes megafauna such as bison and cougars, but also includes smaller species such as various types of rodents, fish, insects, and birds.
China[edit]
Russia[edit]
Other countries[edit]
Other major countries that have laws for endangered species include Iran, India, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia.
