Mark Joseph Carney (1965–) is the current prime minister of Canada and an economist. Taking over from Justin Trudeau as a member of the Liberal Party in March 2025. He then won his own term later that year in the 2025 Federal Election. Beating Conservative Leader Pierre Polliviere and New Democratic Party leader Jagment Singh. Who both lost their seats.
Early Life Before Political Aspirations[edit]
Carney was born in Canada’s Northwest Territories and he was raised in Alberta. Having graduated with both a master’s degree and doctorate in economics from Oxford University in 1993 and 1995, Carney held positions at Goldman Sachs before joining the Bank Of Canada as deputy governor in 2003. He went on to serve as the Bank Of Canada’s eighth governor between 2008 to 2013.
Tenure as Prime Minister and Political Positions[edit]
Under Carney’s watch, the Canadian Parliament has enacted the One Canadian Economy Act intended as an effort to reduce international trade barriers in reaction to the trade war between Canada, The United States, and Mexico.
Carney has voiced intentions to recognize Palestine as a state. He denounced Israel’s displacement of Palestinians and takeover of Gaza City as “wrong”, saying that the Israeli government’s actions will “ "will aggravate the catastrophic humanitarian situation, endanger the lives of the hostages and further risk the mass displacement of civilians."
Carney is a staunch supporter of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with Canada having granted sanctuary to over 300,000 Ukrainians who have fled their home country due the Russo-Ukrainian War since it began in 2022.
Smear Campaign by Vatnik Propaganda[edit]
Russian state television outlets such as Sputnik have baselessly accused Mark Carney of being involved with Neo Nazis in Ukraine as well as trying to call his record as an economist into question. This is in part of Russia’s talking point of convincing the public that Putin’s trying to “de-nazify” Ukraine which has been a repeated bullshit claim tirelessly repeated endlessly.
