Forum[edit]

Hi everyone,

I would like to start a forum for RationalWiki, i.e. http://forum.rationalwiki.com, and would like some input on this idea. Thanks! --Linus(Plot evil tech) 21:59, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

  • Linus, the link doesn't seem to work. --TK /MyTalk 05:32, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
I haven't set up anything there yet. --Linus(plot evil tech) 18:36, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
Okay, now I have. ----Linus(plot evil tech) 16:23, 26 May 2007 (CDT)
Everyone please excuse my ignorance on this subject, but I am very new to the whole wiki-environment. Is there some kind of menu or index of all the articles on the wiki, and if not can one be created? I find it hard to know where to begin without being able to see what is already in existence. Thanks. Prof0705 13:27, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
Prof: Special:Allpages is there for you (Edit to add: You may have to change the namespace a few times to see all pages, the default setting is just the mainspace (read: Articles with no special prefix). I guess many interesting articles can be found in the Conservapedia or the Essay namespace, for example). Or check out the contributions of a user (go to their user page, click "User contributions" in the "toolbox" on the left side). Or just the Recent Changes. :)
TK: I think the link doesn't work because it was just a suggestion to create a forum and maybe host it there. :) --Sid 13:36, 24 May 2007 (CDT)

Some places to start[edit]

This wiki has a focus on rational thought, science, skepticism, crank ideas, etc. I have imported the Lists of pseudosciences from wikipedia. I think that might be a good place to start. Pick one of those topics that interest you and create an article about it. Remember we are not an "encyclopedia" so it doesn't have to be written as such. Opinion is fine, tangential discussions, allegory, metaphor, whatever you want. Remember if its submitted to the article main space it is being proposed as a collaborative work and any editor can edit. If you write something you want direct control over submit it to the Essay name space.

Also we need to develop Creation Museum because we are thinking of submitting it to a blog carnival on the topic of the opening of the Ken Hams museum. It is a good source for traffic and interested users if we can get a good article up there. Remember, opinion is fine, be creative, funny, ect. Look at the talk page for suggestions on directions to take it in. Etaroced 16:07, 24 May 2007 (CDT)

They like BUTTASSSEX at conservapedia![edit]

It seems like the powers that be seem to have a thing for BUTTASSSEX I was just going through the block log trying to find absurd block reasons and i discovered this. Observe:

  • (Block log); 03:54 . . TK (Talk | contribs) (blocked "User:TITsAREFUN" with an expiry time of infinite)
  • (Block log); 03:53 . . TK (Talk | contribs) (blocked "User:FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK" with an expiry time of infinite)

You saw this list I presume? --ויִכִּ נתֶּרֶפּרֶתֵּר שְׁלֹום!
No, thats the creation log. I was looking at the block log -ĬŴΣĐĝё 14:55, 4 June 2007 (CDT)

Hello RW[edit]

Being home is weird. Anyone here? Anything I should be doing? Tmtoulouse 01:54, 7 June 2007 (CDT)

Howdy! Hope you're enjoying your visit. We've had a couple vandals and one maybe-vandal, but it looks like you're already on top of that. Nothing that you need to interrupt the family visit with, unless you, y'know, want to. --jtltalk 02:02, 7 June 2007 (CDT)
currently we are writing articles on recipes containing goats......... -ĬŴΣĐĝё 02:51, 7 June 2007 (CDT)
"We" are also apparently creating articles on the letters of the alphabet and the positive integers in an attempt to build our article count. See category:ACD. I suspect it may be a "joke". humanbe in 11:03, 7 June 2007 (CDT)

Blogs 4 Moonbats[edit]

Anyone care to help? ----Linus(plot evil tech) 07:10, 13 June 2007 (CDT)

Looks great. Some stuffs -
  • Do we have a modus operandi vis a vis parodies and refutations of, uh, the other site?
  • Shall we rip off their CSS, but maybe replace red with blue? It might make the comparison a little easier.
  • When do you want us to start 'discretely' mentioning it on discussion threads there?

Good work Linus!!!!!!!

--ויִכִּ נתֶּרֶפּרֶתֵּר שְׁלֹום!

Okay, I don't really know anything about this guy or his supporters, but is this blog not a complete parody? Just wanted to say it before i signed up to help. αιρδισΗταλκ 08:37, 13 June 2007 (CDT)
We've long suspected 'Sisyphus' to be a parody, but, as far as I know, the others are for real. --ויִכִּ נתֶּרֶפּרֶתֵּר שְׁלֹום!
My selfish opinion: since we are still so small, I hope folks use the new forum to develop stuff that can be posted here. Also, please be careful not to parody the parodies, turning yourselves into parodies in the process(i just love saying that word so many times in one sentence). User:PalMD

Tell me thy Wordpress usernames. ----Linus(plot evil tech) 12:41, 13 June 2007 (CDT)

New Bureaucrat[edit]

So I will be working on one of my, um, to do list items from Friday-Tuesday. I will be totally away from any computer during this time. Our other Bureaucrats Linus and Colin are also away. That brings up the issue that its probably time to have a new user brought into the Bureaucrat/check user/oversight since the existing members of these groups you know, sometimes have lives! Of course we need some community feedback on this issue so I am posting here. Anyone is welcome to nominate someone, including themselves. Comment on the nominations, ect. But this needs to happen TONIGHT (June 28th).

Here are some of my initial thoughts. Based on a few key variables my suggestions (which should not be viewed as anything other than a few superficial points):

  • Jtl-Consistently around, knows what the hell he is doing.
  • Human-Consistently around, and great policy wonk (the Fibonacci sequence for blocks comes to mind).
  • PalMD-Doesn't want the job, thats a major plus.
  • TK=Just to fuck with y'all.

Anyone else who wants the job or thinks of someone else that should have it post here. If you REALLY do not want the job remove your name. Otherwise lets see if we can get some consensus on this.Tmtoulouse 12:02, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

Tmt, out of curiosity, what responsibilities do a demotion like this actually entail, on a day-to-day basis? PS, making TK an admin from 6/29-7/3 might be an interesting exercise (in masochism, perhaps, but interesting nonetheless). humanbe in 12:14, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
Nothing really, you are only called into duty if certain things happen:
  1. Revisions disappear and you need to look at the oversite to see whats up.
  2. A sysop goes fucking crazy and starts wrecking the joint and you need to remove their ability to unblock themselves
  3. I can't think of a good reason to run checkuser on this site unless you really want to

Its just a good idea to have an active user in place with this rights, because you never know when you might need them. Tmtoulouse 12:17, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

I vote for User:human because I don't want to vote for an animal. --Kels 12:26, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
Hey! I thought I suggested the fibonacci thing! (i would be very happy to be proven wrong.) I vote for human, unless you want someone who lives in GMT and is unemployed until september, hint hint... ɢяаѕsyodelβЯæкΔωwΝ 12:33, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
I'd second both of Airdish's statements. I thought of small blocks that increment, "someone else" suggested the fibber nacho sequence, which was accepted almost unanimously immediately, since we are all geeks. Having more one new admin might be good, since both will be n00bs. And I may be in EST, but I live one time zone west of PST. So if Airdish and I were the unlucky duo, all we'd need is someone in Oz or Eastern India or so to cover the whole friggin' world in a paranoid blanket of administrivia. humanbe in 12:43, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
Human great. Jtl too. Palm if he doesn't use this as an excuse to put more got (or, rather "goat")up. I strongly object to all the other nominations on the list.--Bob_M (talk) 12:58, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
Really, any of them are fine... I suspect jtl and Human would be most willing... ŠтΈṜȳŁЁand...? 13:05, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
If I'm understanding correctly, congratulations on your illicit rendezvous -- and remember, Canada is a foreign country. As to the real question, making either Human or myself a bureaucrat (thanks, Firefox spelchek!) is likely to antagonize TK. I'm okay with that, mind, but I think it should be said. On the timezone issue, while I'm in US/Pacific, I'm also a night owl and I think my awake time and Human's pretty much overlap. --jtltalk 13:15, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
Is Canada in the U.S. or in Europe?--PalMD-yada yada 13:57, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
a propos of nothing...despite what assfly wants you to believe, latex is a good thing. Soyez sage.--PalMD-yada yada 13:28, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
Fuck LaTeX I am serious, that shit nearly screwed me over royally. Here I am preparing to submit a paper for review/publication and I go look at what the style requirements are and find out that its in a LaTeX file. I have 2 days now to 1)learn a new scripting language and 2)Rewrite the damn paper in it to meet formating requirements. Fuck that. Oh well, I did it but I am still pissed about it. Tmtoulouse 13:37, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
I know what you mean. I've got a latex outfit, and even if it's a cool room you still end up sweating. That stuff don't breathe, y'know? --Kels 13:59, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
My votes:

PalMD = yes

Human = yes

JTL = yes

TK = are you crazy? hell no.

I still think you ought to make TK a sysop, or admin, or whatever you're calling them. If he doesn't behave you can take it away from him, right? So end the debate and give him a chance.
All the others.. *shrug* Sure. You all seem to have your heads on straight-ish. Aziraphale 15:17, 28 June 2007 (CDT) <- never used to use the tilde key before wikis...

AmesG is more than worthy to be on Trent's list. And why is Jtl already showing as a Bureaucrat? Why is his name included, when he already is one? --Ë. 17:28, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

It looks like Tmt took his quick poll, acted, and left for points vacational. As far as I can tell, jtl, airdish, and human got admin'd. One or two have checkuser (whatever that is). And some critter named R. Wadmin has all kinds of special powers. Oh... never mind that last one, I figgered it out. I'm sure Western Civ. will survive, at least 'til next week. humanbe in 17:42, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

What would it actually entail? It would be nice to get some practice in before I take over at CP. Hell if a 15-year old can do it I'm sure I could! God's peed Babel fishÅЯ†ђŮŖ ÐΣй†Now look here! 17:39, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

As I understand it, the all-powerful admins get to decide who gets the tastiest parts of the goat. (forgot to sign) humanbe in 18:00, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

My vote was for PalMD but I love you all equally. Wig, thanks for the vote, but I'm not on enough to be a good bureaucrat. Maybe in the fall.-αmεσG 18:30, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

Archive?[edit]

This talk page is gettin' a wee long, would someone who isn't dying from the heat archive most of it? Or, I'll do it later this evening. humanbe in 17:44, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
