Bash my dreams here.-αmεσ (soldier) 17:42, 17 January 2008 (EST)

If, in the process, you wish to include the blogs, let me/linus know so we can figure it out, as stated in the original discussion.--PalMD-Did that sound a little harsh? 17:43, 17 January 2008 (EST)

Definitely! Ideally, I think a box like... God help me for saying this... CreationWiki has on their front page, but with a link to the blogs, too, would be good. Probably shouldn't DO it until we have a long list of things to put on it though. Like at least 3. I can't code a mainpage box though...-αmεσ (soldier) 17:45, 17 January 2008 (EST)

I totally thought this page was about something else..... Like the whole idea though. Pinto's5150 Talk 17:49, 17 January 2008 (EST)
What'd you think it was?-αmεσ (soldier) 17:50, 17 January 2008 (EST)
I read it as cover story, as in a story made up to cover something. I had assumed it was a rip on Cp, then I actually read it. Pinto's5150 Talk 18:11, 17 January 2008 (EST)

I support this with all my heart, Ames (or however much of it I have left to spare after my cat :) ). I caution, however, that this will take a while to build up. As far as I am aware, none of our non-Conservapedia articles are near even Wikipedia in quality. In fact, we haven't even chosen a standard format (for copy-editing purposes) yet. I do suggest that we hold off on becoming formalized, as that would require either several times the number of editors we currently have to accomplish its enforcement, or an insane degree of dedication on the part of our current users. (I got ya' covered on that last one, but there's only one of me :) )

You may not realize it, but what you are seeking is no less than a fundamental shift in RationalWiki's modus operandi. --Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 17:53, 17 January 2008 (EST)

Actually, I do realize that that is what I'm seeking :-). I think it's possible to maintain the lulz, but also ratchet up the quality of some of our articles, and I think the latter is something we need to do if want to stick around for a while... also, I'm hoping to re-gear a less-CP focus. Pray for mojo. Also, I second you on the cat-lovin'...-αmεσ (soldier) 17:59, 17 January 2008 (EST)

Mildly redundant[edit]

We already have a "featured content" box that randomly picks three articles that are catted "best of..." in each of several broad areas.

Ironically, the Behe interveiw is on that list, so the template looked a bit strange there - the article already is "featured on the front page". humanUser talk:Human 20:03, 17 January 2008 (EST)

Right, but what I think would work better is full text of an article.-αmεσ (soldier) 20:21, 17 January 2008 (EST)
I don't mean to be rude, but that makes no sense. You mean maybe the intro paragraph and a link to it? Or simply replace the mainpage with a (rotating) featured article? Because nothing I read explained it that way. Can you try to consisely, clearly, somewhere, explain what your idea is? humanUser talk:Human 20:30, 17 January 2008 (EST)
Owsabout: Would it be possible to have a box with those slidy scrolly bars on the side & transclude an article into it, allowing the whole thing to be read from tne front page? That'd be cool. Any geeks out there? (I could do it in Director easy but in wiki?) SusanPurrrrrrr 20:45, 17 January 2008 (EST)
Perhaps that, below the content already there? Using dpl you could randomly select from any "Best of RW" article. Steal the code from userboxboxtop and userboxboxbottom for the scrolly box, and make a sandbox example. That's what I'd like to see, rather than arguing with the idea - sandbox versions of what people are thinking of doing. humanUser talk:Human 21:12, 17 January 2008 (EST)
I hate to cite them, but honestly, see how this hellhole transcludes two articles. That's sort of what I was thinking.-αmεσ (soldier) 22:12, 17 January 2008 (EST)
Also, I'm horribly mad at you for being rude, Human! I'm going to call your place of employment and pretend I'm teh FBI!-αmεσ (soldier) 22:19, 17 January 2008 (EST)
If we make this thing any reasonable size then we'd have to cut something out of the existing mainpage. What would go?--Bobbing up 03:13, 18 January 2008 (EST)

I'd say just put one (or two?) below what we already have. There's room on the left for one in an appropriate size box. So, is someone gonna sandbox it up or do I have to? humanUser talk:Human 08:46, 18 January 2008 (EST)

Here's a loose mock up: User:Human/sandbox5 humanUser talk:Human 09:13, 18 January 2008 (EST)
Mmmm. Better than I had expected. I use two monitors - one bit TV sized thing and another standard and it looks quite nice in both.--Bobbing up 09:31, 18 January 2008 (EST)
Thanks. I have no idea how I made it work ;) But I did discover that serboxbottom (and userboxboxbottom) both appear to be missing a closing "div" tag - no wonder editing pages with them on it is a bit "jumpy"! I'm going to try to fix that, and test it quickly. Hope I don't break anyone's experience on RW doing it!
As far as the sandbox, I just transcluded fun:pi to have a test article. Now I'll try to do a random pick from "best of RW (but not best of fun?)" and see how well it lays out. humanUser talk:Human 10:22, 18 January 2008 (EST)

bad idea (TM) Bohdan[edit]

user talk:Bohdan 22:23, 17 January 2008 (EST)

Thank you Bohdan for that insightful, reasoned comment. Any other opinions you want to defecate out of your ass share with us? --Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 00:55, 18 January 2008 (EST)
No, that was it. user talk:Bohdan 18:08, 18 January 2008 (EST)

Cover Story[edit]

It's looking AWESOME. But... so far there's only like one article that sorts onto the front page... should we go on a spur of voting & nominating?-αmεσ (soldier) 11:51, 16 February 2008 (EST)

I think there are several (six, actually), but there are about fourteen nominees that probably just need to be approved. And, yes, let see if there are others that just need a last bit of help to get them included! Such a binge would be very good for the site, I think. humanUser talk:Human 12:07, 16 February 2008 (EST)

Confused[edit]

Can we nominate new cover stories or not? Somebody has crossed out the instructions about doing so. WěǎšěǐǒǐďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 08:56, 14 January 2009 (EST)

Of course we can. Not seen the xxx out. fröhlich "gay" and "happy" 09:04, 14 January 2009 (EST)
