Two meters[edit]
So where's the article? - David Gerard (talk) 12:18, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
- I should not be working on it, as I am busy with finalising thesis... But I was annoyed with red link. Some references are available if anybody wants to have a pop. ·Femilisk³ 12:27, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
thoughtcatalog?[edit]
Are we sure there isn't a better reference than that site? - David Gerard (talk) 16:32, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- I'm absolutely positive there's a better one out there. I viewed it as a placeholder, but maybe a "citation needed" would be better. MarmotHead (talk) 17:22, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Mental illness discrimination[edit]
Discrimination against people with mental illnesses (depression, bipolar, borderline, etc.)- would it count as a form of ableism? If so, would anyone mind if I was to mention it? If it's a separate thing, what is it? MESSIAH OF DOOM A sea on earth is a sea of tears 07:30, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- I think it fits. Some might call it "mentalism" (yes, really), which I like to reserve for the subset of magicians and charlatans (depending on how much they claim its reality). I think it fits. The existing structure of this article may not fit it perfectly, but don't let that stop you! MarmotHead (talk) 15:06, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- From my own experiences in activism, ableism is the correct term. I've never heard that other one used. --PosthumanHeresy (talk) 03:22, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
"disabilities"[edit]
Isn't that an ableist term? ħuman 22:37, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- That would mean the World Health Organisation along with governments across the world use and promote ableist language. Also, ableism is frequently defined as discrimination against persons with disabilities... Nullahnung (talk) 23:10, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- FWIW, along with "impairment", the terms "disability" and "handicap" are used prominently in research to describe different things (ADLs and such vs. social role functioning). Oddly one term is seen as more offensive in the US and the other more offensive in the UK. I don't remember which is which. MarmotHead (talk) 20:37, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
