Quotes should be sourced. (Again...)[edit]
I'm noticing most of the quotes in this article are unsourced. If the conflicting parties would be so kind as to stop fighting over which unsourced quote goes where, it might behoove them to dig up some citations for the already existing quotations. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 21:01, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
- Why don’t you do it yourself? Christopher (talk) 21:07, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
- Fine. Here's a PDF copy of The Wealth of Nations which I'll be using as a reference source. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 14:55, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- @GrammarCommie I don't know how to properly format the citations for specific pages, but using your pdf, I found the first quote under "trickle-downer" on page 105 (of the book, page 114 of the pdf), the second on page 639. Under "often ignored quotes, I found the first on 553, the second on 550, then 115, 43, 380, the next 2 I didn't find, then the last I found on page 66. I didn't look at the context of any of them. - In another of his works, I found the quote starting "How selfish soever" on the eleventh page of the pdf. In your pdf, I found the quote starting "In the process of the division of labor..." as "In the progress of the division of labor..." on page 602 (611 of the pdf). I think that's all of the direct quotes. EyeSky (talk) 15:19, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. I'll incorporate the citation into the article. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 15:45, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- For the record. Smith also has another very influential book, The Theory of Moral Sentiments. Perhaps some quotes come from this other book. GeeJayK (talk) 16:51, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- I'll try to find the source of my quote, it is the least that I can do. GeeJayK (talk) 16:52, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- Make sure to cite the page number. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 17:00, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- The quote starting "How selfish soever" is from The Theory of Moral Sentiments; it's at the very beginning of chapter 1, on page 4. I linked to a pdf version above. All the other quotes are from The Wealth of Nations. EyeSky (talk) 17:54, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- @GrammarCommie I added the remaining citations, using the ones you added as a template for the formatting. I also corrected one of them to agree with the pdf source material, and added a bit more to it to clarify the connection between the first and second part of the quote.
