Very nice. We can add more after an appropriate period of mourning, I'm sure. ħumanUser talk:Human 04:27, 23 June 2008 (EDT) o/ Carlin -Judas Reward 15:16, 1 September 2008 (EDT)

Georgie the Democratic Socialist[edit]

I'm very curious to see the source on this one. Knowing his work, it wouldn't at all surprise me. I just want to know if he ever said this(told us in his own words :P )SuspensionofBelief (talk) 22:08, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

center-left[edit]

this article says he was center-left, i'd be interested in a source on that. from what I see, he was pretty explicitly opposed to center-left thought: http://reprints.longform.org/playboy-interview-george-carlin (search for "radical"). he seems pretty far-left imo, tho it is pretty hard to map the full scale of potential political thought on a 2D graph ofc

Generally speaking, "left leaning" is a good generic phrase to use for Carlin (as this New York Times article does), but it's hard to capture George Carlin's viewpoints on a spectrum. I'd describe him as overall "on the left" and definitely not on the center, but with a mix of libertarian-style dislike for paternalism and nanny-ism, whether it comes from the left of the right. There's also a large touch of nihilism in George Carlin, especially later Carlin, that is not represented well on any political spectrum chart.
The pissed-off, nihilistic social rants are probably what attract some of the conspiracy crowd. In my own personal experience (I know, but hey), there's sort of a Venn diagram of misanthrope types who do get attracted to this part of Carlin's comedy (along with even more pissed off comedians like say Bill Hicks), people who consume too many drugs for their own good, and people who distrust all official authority and thus trust conspiracy bullshit on the Internet (some of which is pushed by "other authorities" like Russia, but I digress). Not all are true of a person, but sometimes all are true. So that's one relationship.
For the Carlin "Save the Planet" routine, however, it's pretty easy to find on the Internet climate change denier idiots where the sheer nihilism of that routine whooshed over people's heads. So that's another.Soundwave106 (talk) 18:25, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
Hello there. I could be wrong but would see Carlin as a left-libertarian. I would say he does not have the same type of leftism as Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden. 217.128.167.152 (talk) 15:34, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Wait. You think Biden is left-wing? The man's a center-right centrist... ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 15:47, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
You use the term "centrist" like it was something bad. Would you say Trump is centre-left? While I have been labelled as everything from "moderate right" to right-wing, I'd say I am a radical centrist, since I hate labelling. I do not think it is bad to be a centrist. 217.128.167.152 (talk) 16:44, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Ok, I'm going to openly accuse you of bad faith, since it's pretty obvious what I meant in context to my reply to your post. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 18:50, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
i struggle to see what is particularly of interest where he falls on that spectrum nor do i see any particular reason to be where it is in the article. following from a sentence about questions regarding 9/11, 'Strangely enough, Carlin himself was center-left and never outright said that the U.S. government perpetrated 9/11' is it strange? there seems little relevance in that tidbit in the middle of his opinions on 9/11. it seems an odd to place mention such a thing, and with nothing to suggest if it so or not, just the assertion. the section is titled 'misaimed fandom' are we claiming him? is center left a cattle brand? i have to say, only really know the guy from bill and ted, so i wouldnt like to make pronouncements on his political leanings in general nor his views from any specific works this section refers to, but reading through his section does not convince me of a clear case of some fans taking his works as supporting unpopular opinions when they do not. from the the two clips provided it looks to me that its us whose missed the point on the global warming claims, while the 9/11 bit seems not to actually say what we say others have got wrong with his views. im aware george carlin is a very popular figure and im sure with good reason. doesnt mean we have to agree with everything he says, nor does it mean you cannot like him if people of a different persuasion are fans and vice versa. probably should stop taking the skits of comedians as deep political thought though. im from the uk though and has much less traction. we've been saying fuck on the telly for years. While this man was a liberal, there are many misconceptions too.[edit]

I do not agree with George's views on religion and the like, but if we look closer then we see he actually saw this current pandemic coming. It is not unlikely that he wouldn't wear a mask today and I think the Green Party would accuse him of being "neoliberal". Back then (in the 70's and 80's) society was not as liberal and swag as it is now. He also rejected the two party system. 217.128.167.152 (talk) 14:56, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

As a fan of Carlin's work, you sadden me. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 15:47, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

The abortion routine[edit]

Probably the best standup routine ever. I'm serious, it's an all time classic. Evilatheistheathen (talk) 13:55, 25 December 2020 (UTC)

A legend and a true liberal[edit]

Sadly most of the "liberals" of today are caught in the cult of neoliberalism. Carlin knew that politicians cannot make a change and a true activist cannot vote, but must act himself. Also, democracy is a part of the deception too. People like Hitler and Trump would have never made it without democracy. I however do not agree with the conspiracy theorist misconception. Not all "conspiracy theorists" are Qtards. Carlin would have hated Trump but in my humble opinion he would have questioned COVID-19 as well. True liberals should not take the vaccine blindly. We should be freethinkers and look at the evidence. I am for science and against blind faith without science by the way.
