Ta for the tip. I have used the square brackets that other folk were using. it seemed to make more sense to someone of 0 wiki expertise aMassiveGAy

The square brackets you've used are okay, but ~~~~ takes less time and adds the date and time you posed the comment. (There is a one-click signature button in the row of buttons that appears when you edit a page; it's the second one from the right. The date and time tells people where your comment figures in the flow of conversation.) Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 20:39, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
I'll maybe try to do that in future, then. You'd think that I'd better better at Wiki stuff considering I maintained the wiki pages of my department in one of the UK's largest hospitals.--AMassiveGay (talk) 20:52, 28 July 2010 (UTC) oooh that button works nice

Not sleeping, Quitting Smoking.[edit]

Hey, I saw your post on the Saloon Bar, but didn't really follow all the replies. Thought I'd put some thoughts here. I've had some pretty bad insomnia problems in the past, and have tried (and failed) to quit smoking, so my advice on the sleep is probably much better than the smoking...

  • A doctor once told me, and it's a really good way of thinking of it, to think about needing to be mentally tired AND physically tired. Know how sometimes you feel physically drained, but mentally active.. or mentally drained but somehow energetic.. and it's always difficult to sleep with either. Try to work out which one it is. If it's physical, try to wear yourself out a bit more, walk instead of a bus, that kind of thing. If it's more mental, the below tips can really help:
  • I know it's hard for the computery nerdy types (which I am, and you may be), but when I'm struggling to sleep, it REALLY does help if you say, "Right, I'm going to bed in 1 or 2 hours, no more computer." Try not to use the computer, watch TV, that kind of thing. Read a book, try to wind down. I find it impossible to just go from, "Lalala, socialising, messing about on the computer, cooking... BED." I need that wind down time.
  • If you find yourself lying in bed thinking everything through, it sounds silly... but try writing it down. Just have a little notebook or piece of paper with a pen by your bed, write down any worries, ideas, thoughts which're going through your head. It can give an odd sense of closure, and after a month you might have a collection of great ideas.
  • Unless it gets absolutely life-ruining and depressing, try to avoid the medication. For some people, benzodiazepines (sp?) (Valium, lorazipam, that kind of thing) and sleeping pills (zopiclone, etc.) can be really helpful. And one or two nights using them can be BRILLIANT to just catch up on some essential sleep. But they're... not exactly addictive.. but I found that if you use them to sleep for like a week or two, then it is EVEN HARDER than before to sleep once you're off them. Try not to make the problem worse long-term to make it better short-term. Obviously I'm no doctor, and this is just my experience... but don't just willy nilly accept yummy drugs from the doctor.
  • Cut the caffeine, completely. Every last bit of it. I found this REALLY difficult, because when you can hardly sleep.. that cup of coffee is the only thing that keeps you going. But if you can not use it for a week, it makes a huge difference.
  • As the the smoking, try the plastic inhilators, the patches and the gum. They work differently for different people. I found the patches bad, even as a 20-a-day-smoker, they're still a bit heavy-going and make me headachey and dizzy from all the nicotine, and having it constantly pumped into you. The gum is good because you can use it subtly anywhere, and it REALLY takes the craving away, leaving only the mental element of it. The inhilators, "e-cigarettes," aren't something I've tried, but a friend of mine managed to quit with them, saying they really solved the craving because you go through the actions of smoking. I also know a lot more people who have quit by STOPPING smoking and trying to stick with it, than saying, "I'll cut down then stop..." Good luck with it, and I hope you can achieve it. I know you're another Londoner, you been affected by them at all? My area's been pretty much locked down after 6pm since Monday, but we haven't really had much bother, nothing out the ordinary anyway. SJ Debaser 10:52, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Didn't know you lived in Waterloo. Whereabouts are you? I lived on Stamford St for a couple of years. CrundyTalk nerdy to me 08:07, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes I can see how that could be confusing. AMassiveGay (talk) 12:27, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Heh, no worries. Yeah I was holed up in the halls of residence on Stamford st. I used to buy beer from the offie a few doors down from the Vic. Do you ever go to the white hart? It was our local for a while but the landlord turned into a twat. I went there a couple of years ago and it seems to have been "upgraded" to a trendy wine bar. CrundyTalk nerdy to me 14:31, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Yeh, its been all wine bars and resturants since I've been here, particularly on the cut. I don't go drinking locally - I only frequent gay places, and poverty prevents even that AMassiveGay (talk) 15:49, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
So is there actually a gay nightclub in Waterloo? A gay guy I was friends with from the white hart once asked if I wanted to go there with him at chucking out time (but I was tired and skint and not really in the mood for dancing frantically to YMCA :) ) CrundyTalk nerdy to me 15:57, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
As far as I know, there are no gay clubs in waterloo. There used to be the man bar catering to the more sleazy client (men only, strict dress code of at the most, pants only), but closed now I think. There a couple of saunas there, and Vauxhall is just down the road, which seems to have surpassed Old Compton street for London's gay centre. And Of course Heaven is just across the river in Embankment. AMassiveGay (talk) 16:23, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
I still need to check out Heaven, my friends (gay and straight) in common with all human beings keep saying we should go there and continuously fail to organise anything. I'd need to go with a mixed group though to affirm my heterosexuality, devilishly handsome as I am.
Also AMG, I was passing through Waterloo station the other day and thought to myself "hey, AMassiveGay lives here!" Exciting I know. SJ Debaser 16:31, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Shin splints[edit]

I've just developed them too so I was looking online for some more specific treatments and I found this page from Cool Running that I thought might help you too. Be careful with the Russell -- there's a lot of anti-Continental bias there, only most of which is justified. Confirm Ken's conclusions on homosexuality and obesity?  :)

it does not. I am 6'4, which I am often told is quite tall, but not massively so. My name should be applied in the same way you would call someone a massive cock, that is to refer to their essence as massively embodying a cock rather than a physical description. HRC undo[edit]

Dear Mr. Gay: I noticed your undo of an edit (not mine) on Hillary Clinton's page with the note "removing obvious opinion." I found that ironic. You missed the part about her "insatiable bloodlust" and coronation as queen. :-) Read-Write (talk) 01:21, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

that was objectively true. AMassiveGay (talk) 01:28, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Good choice on that marriage removal[edit]

I looked up the references used, and a return to modesty is a goddamn travesty of a source. Any idea how it got used in the first place? ikanreed You probably didn't deserve that 18:50, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

i honestly didnt look at the source. The point being made had no business being in an article about prostitution. The whole article needs revamping and refocus - to much arse about happy hookers and empowerment or that decriminalisation is something wonderous instead the best we can do with an awful thing. Im not keen on the fantasy worlds some folk seem to live in I can only sort it piecemeal while internet connection or my tablet is too twitchy. AMassiveGay (talk) 18:57, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Farewell to arms, as the cripple put it[edit]

Hello AMassiveGay! I just wanted to tell you that, while I can't always process all the text fast enough and so on (as I have ADHD and also use some medication that doesn't always work "in the right direction" for that particular disability), I'm slowly taking the time to hear you out on the points you make, and I just wanted to say that I respect your devotion to this topic. You put it in the following way on Hamabost's talkpage: "I apologise if i am abrasive, but this is a hit button issue for me.". And I respect that from you. I would like you to know that I also care deeply about this topic, and I think we both have good intentions towards human beings not being treated like cattle and the emotional downsides to prostitution. There's very much to be said about a lot of negative truths to it all, and so fourth. And besides adding those sourced quotes from the pro-grassroot rights psychology professor, which are intended to help humanize sex workers in the eyes of those that would dehumanize them, I haven't even written on my views on the topic yet (which is why I stress we must let things take time and not fall into an edit war). But anyways, I don't plan to make my views heard here. And you don't have to agree with what those quotes mean - they're not sent from God himself. But I just wanted to tell you that I respect your devotion and I don't mean to manhandle this delicate subject. And maybe you could hear me out on my views, too, as they are no less sincere. I know I mean well for these people and for the site. I don't doubt you do, either. And somewhere inbetween our viewpoints, I'm sure we could find agreement, as I already believe we agree in the humanitarian "spirit and intention". All the best, Reverend Black Percy (talk) 13:00, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

For example, I would very much support finding one (or several) "darker" quotes (if you misunderstand me correctly) for the "The bad side" segment of the article; that would really help to communicate how this isn't a slap on the wrist issue you just handwave and go (In a Jerry Seinfeld voice) "So whaat? People are flipping burgers, same thiing!". I think that's an important issue, too. I wouldn't even have used the "coal miner" quote if it wasn't because the dear professor clarified immediately that, as he puts it "Those saying "but it's different" are right.", and that it's about not stigmatizing and rejecting basic worker rights from any people, especially the vulnerable. And so on. Prostitution isn't (always... or even, often) a happy laugh, and we very much need to convey "that side" of it too. Just as we need to convey the defense of sex workers against those who would deride and spit and dehumanize. And so on - don't get caught up on any specifics here... I'm just trying to show that I'm making myself avaliable for the discussion, which I hope and think will be fruitful, and which is important to me and you alike. And I'm trying to embrace nuance here. Just saying buddy. All the best, Reverend Black Percy (talk) 13:10, 9 July 2016 (UTC)
Maybe for the "Views on prostitition", we could find a relevant quote for each "school of thought"? To further highlight the plethora of views (nuanced or not)? Reverend Black Percy (talk) 13:14, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

I believe you[edit]

when you say you are very concerned about the dehumanisation of those we disagree with. I must say I concur fully. While I do not share your exact views on the issue of Phyllis' passing, I don't think you reason the way you do due to any ill-will or malignant intent. I hope you believe me when I tell you I don't write out of malice, either.

Just because it spoke to me when you underscored the part about the danger inherent to dehumanisation, and just because I believe you when you say that that is truly a worry of yours... What is your take on these posts directed at me? Do you think those replies to what I specifically wrote helps the cause of fighting dehumanisation? Especially keeping in mind how, even here, I took the high road. All the best, Reverend Black Percy (talk) 15:38, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

To your accurate point elsewhere - perhaps the next time we have moderators elections we focus more on people who have the vision right and less on people who are busy checking off the "friends on wiki" boxes. Hipocrite (talk) 18:03, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments on the relevant Talk pages. It is reassuring to see at least some people here are willing to promote the ethos of 'constructive dialogue'. I don't expect people to always agree with me, not even when I take the time to explain on the Talk page, but if people are unwilling or unable to use the Talk page to state why they think an edit is invalid, I think it makes sense to me that it should be allowed to stand. An 'Edit warring' ban should be imposed on the party who edits or reverts while refusing to use the Talk page, rather than someone who is dutifully explaining everything as per the guidelines. Anyway, respect to you for sticking your head above the parapet - I hope you're more representative of the RationalWiki users than the SysOp bullies. Star Gazer (talk) 20:14, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
