Talk:Joseph Kony
Topic[edit]
Any particular reason why this was split off the article on LRA? The guy's stand-alone importance is non-existent.--ZooGuard (talk) 18:52, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
say what?!?[edit]
"Joseph Rao Kony (born 1961), widely regarded to be the most evil Ugandan in human history (and sadly, that's not an overly narrow superlative),"
I thought wp:Idi Amin was—by far.

- Whatever else Amin may have been, at least he wasn't a paedo. --Let Them Eat Cake (talk) 22:53, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- I've heard he raped, though, no idea, if they were old enough for him not to be pedo.--Arisboch (talk) 10:10, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- quite apart from the ridiculousness of labelling thoroughly unpleasant people as good or evil, its even more ridiculous to be making grand statements such as 'most evil'. How is that decided? Most killed? Most tortured? Most raped? Most harsh words used? Is there an official scale like for earthquakes or hurricanes? AMassiveGay (talk) 10:33, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- No "official scale"? What of it?--Arisboch (talk) 10:36, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- what of it? That its a lot of shit to say one murdering arsehole is the most evil murdering arsehole or more evil than other murdering arseholes. AMassiveGay (talk) 10:47, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- Really? Why?--Arisboch (talk) 10:52, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- how the about re reading my original post. Its pretty clear there why. How do you measure evil? AMassiveGay (talk) 10:57, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- There is no official scale. All subjective, not that it holds back people, on this wiki or elsewhere.--Arisboch (talk) 10:58, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- I know that. That is why I am saying it is ridiculous. Besides, idi amin is not evil, he is an amazing guy AMassiveGay (talk) 11:08, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- Do notice the "widely regarded" part of that sentence. It doesn't claim that it's the correct way to regard him as. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 11:22, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- who is the widely regarded? Konys victims? Idi's victims? Are they saying 'the most evil' or just 'evil'. Its a bullshit statement entirely unnecessary to highlight how much of an arsehole he is AMassiveGay (talk) 11:45, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- Whose perspective is the 'widely regarded'? Mostly that of Western people, especially Americans and (to a lesser extent) UK citizens, that have heard of Kony. So pretty much the perspective which RationalWiki is generally written from. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 11:54, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- really? They are all saying that? Ive not heard that one. Ive heard much condemnation, but not THE most evil. Do you have sources for this? If they are, i wonder what the relevance of the statement, knowing that it was made by the very people who historically stole their land, enslaved them and generally did mean things to them, are largely responsible for how things have turned out for africans and by all accounts are still fucking up the people and the continent. Their view must carry alot of weight on what is and isn't evil. AMassiveGay (talk) 12:07, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- No, of course not all are saying it. But since Kony is probably one of the few Ugandans they know of, many probably regard him as such. No one's claiming that their view carries a significant amount of weight. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 12:20, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- ok I see. Totally unsupported then. And if it were, is it not more ridiculous that you are now saying that he is most evil Ugandan of the few Ugandans that a poorly defined group of westerners have ever heard of (I am guessing two at the very most - that's all I know of sadly, and both equally horrible at that). If their view carry no weight, why even mention it? Doesn't the fact that its the first sentence imply weight? AMassiveGay (talk) 12:42, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- I didn't see it as implying much weight; it even mentions another claimant to the same superlative title in the same sentence. It mainly just sets the stage for the rest of the article detailing his various atrocities. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 17:17, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

You're saying it's ridiculous to judge people as good or evil? --Let Them Eat Cake (talk) 11:17, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- such absolute terms are entirely ridiculous. How to come to a conclusion that someone is evil? What deeds can we consider evil? Are you going to get everyone to agree on what is or isn't evil? What if you can say one deed is evil. If they are mentally ill would that deed make them evil? Do they think they are evil? Plenty of major arseholes did horrible things believing they were doing righteous things. Who gets to decide? AMassiveGay (talk) 11:45, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Tell you what: come back to me when a guy breaks into your house and rapes and murders your family. Then tell me that morality is subjective. --Let Them Eat Cake (talk) 23:46, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- And what to do with the guy, who breaks into a user page and uses appeals to emotion?--Arisboch ☞✍☜☞✉☜ 23:59, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- Cake thing person.... Your point being? Avengerofthe BoN (talk) 00:06, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- Well why is the crime wrong because everyone won't agree. For example, someone might say it was wrong to rape my wife in our house since she is my property and on my property, but another person may say it is wrong because she did not consent. Another person my say that it isn't wrong if we happen to be interracial/inter-religiously married. And what if we happen to be a lesbian couple because someone will say that it was a corrective rape and the kids were being corrupted so they had to die. If morality is objective then why are marital rape laws in 23 states still 'not as bad' as rape. What about capital and corporal punishment and vigilante justice?--Owlman (talk) 00:55, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- Whether it’s as bad or not is something personal, but usually as a whole rape is considered a bad thing by basically every single society since the dawn of man. Of course, “who” was protected from rape has changed a lot over the course of the years, but when even the fucking nazis were against rape and had laws regarding it in their constitution you know the things is real. As a rule of thumb for basically every single person in the planet: Pain/sadness = bad happiness/joy = good. What brings pain or happiness and what levels might be subjective, but I don’t think a single human in the entire planet ever since humanity existed has said “Pain is a good thing for me” or “I should strive to be as sad as possible!” (Masochists are an exception, but given that it is a fetish that brings them joy from things that “normal” humans would find painful it still ultimately falls into the “happiness/joy is good” category. Also masochists don’t want OTHERS to be in pain because they know it makes them sad and hurt). And cmon, “invading a house and raping and killing the family of somebody against their wishes” is a violation of rights of every single culture that we’ve seen on Earth. And anyone who disagrees otherwise is probably insane. — Unsigned, by: 2804:431:d71d:1085:c0f0:5160:9f27:17b9 / talk / contribs 23:37, 24 December 2019

You talking about not to murder? The numbering is a not very clear, if you look at the Wikipedia article.--Arisboch (talk) 23:13, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
