What is the basis?[edit]

For this sentence: "Your typical New Atheist might respond that if religious moderates truly cared about social issues and public acceptance of science, they would ally themselves with atheists without demanding unilateral self-censorship on the part of the non-religious." I have my (strong) criticisms of many New Atheists, but who has ever said anything like that? And what "unilateral self-censorship" is demanded by "religious moderates?"---Mona- (talk) 04:27, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Bon is confused[edit]

I am confused, is this article about "new atheists" or "new anti-theists?"— Unsigned, by: 96.38.9.178 / talk / contribs .

"New atheist" as a term referred to a group of organized atheists of a particular time period who were notable for their explicit anti-theism. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 19:53, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

PZ Meyer "turns against" New Atheism as being a far-right\/reactionary movement?[edit]

https://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2019/01/25/the-train-wreck-that-was-the-new-atheism/ Seems like it might deserve at least a line on the page. 203.7.91.210 (talk) 10:44, 3 February 2019 (UTC)anon_g

Interesting. Though PJ has form with flouncing out. This is him leaving the skeptics movement. https://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2013/05/05/i-officially-divorce-myself-from-the-skeptic-movement/ Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 18:02, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

I read this whole freaking article and....[edit]

This is why earthly humanity is fucked. Antiscience bullshit (like telling people "enjoy life" which really means drink, do drugs, and screw people you don't really know, all things that science will tell you is bad for your health) masquerades as an "intellectual" campaign, yet what was apparently a bunch of dumb farmers had enough sense to label all of that shit as sin in the Bible. On top of that, you stupid asses have the gall to argue that one can dislike religion without hating religious people while anyone who dislikes any part of the LGBT lifestyle is automatically a hate mongerer in your eyes. You need more autistic, out-of-the-box thinkers on this site. All you people do is puke up Richard Dawkin's bullshit. I think if MSNBC told yall to drink antifreeze you would do it. Alien from Jupiter (talk) 03:27, 24 November 2019 (UTC)

Automatically assuming that "enjoy life" [...] really means drink, do drugs, and screw people you don't really know” says a lot more about your views on life, joy and other people than it does about the slogan. Oh, and what exactly is this ”LGBT lifestyle” (some of which?) you seem to dislike so much? And no, I don’t watch MSNBC (for one, I’m not from the States...). ScepticWombat (talk) 05:03, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
"This is why earthly humanity is fucked". Presumably there is a group of humans somewhere else who are not "fucked"?
More seriously, although you maintain you have read "this whole freaking article" - the words "enjoy life" and "LGBT" appear nowhere in it. Which is odd, as those seem to be some of your main concerns. In fact, advising people to attempt to "enjoy life" would not seem to be bad advice, and conceivably it should be added to the article in an effort to assist other readers who find themselves stressed by challenging concepts.
As far as "MSNBC" is concerned, your experience and knowledge of its content will be far greater than mine as I am also not from the USA and don't watch it.Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 09:54, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
Okay, fair enough, enjoying life doesn't have to mean sinning, but one doesn't have to be an atheist to enjoy life either. Perhaps New Atheists should take their own advice: quit worrying about other people's beliefs and enjoy life. Alien from Jupiter (talk) 12:56, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
Why are you so focused on this "enjoy life" stuff? The article makes no single mention of it. And furthermore everyone - including you - agrees that it's good advice. So why bring it up on this talk page? What things that are actually in the article do you disagree with? Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 13:45, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
I agree that new atheists are shit but the comments about us queer folk is kind of a red flag imo. Oxyaena Harass 13:49, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
The thing is that I don't think he has read the article. Although he makes a big thing about having read it I think he just saw a article title which includes a reference to atheism and started to rant. If that's not the case, then I would like his specific criticism of the text of the article.Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 15:31, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
You've dodged our questions about the "LGBT lifestyle," don't be so vague. Oxyaena Harass 13:14, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
If you're against LGBT rights, then you're against human rights (also you're an immature manchild), if you're against human rights, then I don't have to listen to your opinions. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 14:36, 24 November 2019 (UTC)

Improper use of 'begs the question'[edit]
