Talk:South Africa
Hi all.
I have added some info on how I think SA was a theocracy, which helps make it more relevant for RW Tuscarora 06:05, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- Have you got anything to back that notion up with? Peter mqzp 07:47, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- Somebody who isn't on a phone can remove that "info" - the ruling National Party was styled along Christian Nationalist principles, but the country was certainly never a theory. PsyGremlinSpeak! 10:48, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi. I have edited my last contribution, and removed all claims about SA being a theocracy. I have also added citations (which appear rather thin on the ground in the portions of the article not written by me). The focus of my contribution revolves around the relationship between the Dutch Reformed Church and apartheid, which I think makes it relevant to the average RW reader. I corrected some grammatical/spelling issues in other places tooTuscarora 03:28, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
Struggling to keep the lights on[edit]
So, basically, Eskom (SA's power company) is thoroughly corrupt, incompetent, and has regularly scheduled blackouts to the point where literally 1/6th the country is without power at any given point in time, and during extreme times this can get to 50-60%. I'm just wondering how much we can add to the SA article about this, especially since SA seems to be on a death spiral as a result of this; less electricity means limited economy, limited economy means less ability to repair/upgrade/expand power plants, inability to repair means even less electricity, and it's turtles all the way down... - Yeah I’ve been wanting to do an expansion here since I saw a video a few weeks ago about this and the ANC's incurable corruption problems. Chef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 21:28, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
hiv denialism and jacob zuma[edit]
from what i understand zuma is a hugely corrupt mother mother fucker and there is alot that can be said about his role in South Africas downward trajectory. that being said, the 'even more interesting' case is neither interesting nor accurate. his 'stance' was not so much a stance but a rationalisation of his decision to have unprotected sex with an HIV activist who was herself known to be HIV positive that came to light as he gave evidence while on trial for the alleged rape of the activist. no, taking shower after sex is not an effective HIV prevention measure, no, it was not a good look for the president of the National AIDS Council, but it was not official policy and most seem to agree it had little effect of the state of denialism that was all but official policy of MBekis presidency that saw ARV denied to those needed it or the 300000+ people reputed to have died as a consequence. Zuma's role in south african hIV denialism is to reverse Mbekis poliicies ending denialism as official policy. his hiv/aids policies were a rejection of mbekis denialism and inaction and zumas policies have been credited with raising the life expectancy of south africas.
the sensationalims of his rape trial (he was acquitted), his lack of a formal education, his polygamy, all might relevant in some other section concerning zuma, but it adds little of relevance to a section on hiv denialism. im removing this section. AMassiveGay (talk) 18:52, 23 October 2024 (UTC) .
- infact rereading the whats left in the HIV denialism section, this does piss poor job of summarising situation. ' the more recent SA leaders...Thabo Mbeki, were HIV denialists.' implies that there were several sa leaders who were deialists. there were not several of note, there was one. only one who was responsible for the catastrophe - mbeki and mbeki alone. he headed the government, and he put a denialist in charge of south african health he recruited a gaggle of denialists, many of whom we have articles on, as advisors to hiv policy, supporting and encouraging his open hiv denialism, defending him against, well every relevant official body and government around the world, everyone with any sense outside of his government. his own government officially still stated hiv causes aids, but mbekis denialism, egged on those denialists installed as experts, signed of oin policies restricting and denying effective arv to those that needed it. his promotion of and the policies that resulted from his denialism made prevalent in south africa and he is the only south african leader with the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people on his hands as a result. there was no other SA leader doing this, and the useless folk remedies were merely pushed by 'tribal doctors' they official government advice.
- it should be completely rewritten. im not gonna right now because im lazy, and theres been a death in my fmaily this morning and im just not in the mood. maybe ill come back to it laterAMassiveGay (talk) 19:20, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
