Talk:VLAD laws

I can't make much sense of this. What do these laws actually cover? WéáśéĺóíďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 08:22, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

They're Queensland's new anti bikie laws, setting down mandatory minimum sentencing. They are fairly draconian and frequently accused of breaching human rights so they could legitimately have a page here but the the current article seems confused and rubbish. Delete[edit]

I don't see how this is relevant to our mission in any way. I'm calling for its deletion. Spud (talk) 12:26, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

I agree. It could have potential under point 3 of the mission as a study of excessive government response to gang problems but if all the rubbish in the current version is removed it will probably be only about one sentence long. WatcherIntheDark (talk) 12:35, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
It's arguably on-mission, but the current text isn't doing the arguing. Could the author do a much better job, and quickly? With citations so those who haven't been following this debacle will have any idea what it's talking about - David Gerard (talk) 09:18, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
I've left a message on his user talk page. WēāŝēīōīďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 10:29, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
If people think it's on mission and worth keeping I can rewrite it tomorrow. I've been doing some research into it since this page appeared and it is interesting enough that I can probably deal with it, it will just take a little time. WatcherIntheDark (talk) 10:43, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
So this is here because - authoritarianism?--Coffee (talk) 12:56, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
Bad law =/= "authoritarianism." Needs to be made relevant or go. PowderSmokeAndLeather (talk) 14:56, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
It doesn't make a lot of sense at the moment. It says that people who commit "serious offences" get long sentences. And...?--Coffee (talk) 19:44, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
It is actually authoritarianism - David Gerard (talk) 21:21, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
The article gives no indication of that. PowderSmokeAndLeather (talk) 21:27, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
Have now rewriten the article to make something vaguely resembling sense. It still needs lots of work and I'm not happy with some of it but it should be enough to decide if its on mission or not. WatcherIntheDark (talk) 01:27, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your work on this. However, it's still not clear what these laws allow people or gangs to be prosecuted for. I took out the list of related legislation because it was just a list of acts without commentary or explanation, but if we could have instead a few examples of the sorts of crimes this act covers that would be a lot more useful. Added a highlights list with examples ranging from very serious to slightly bizarre WatcherIntheDark (talk) 04:22, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
The current article documents the overreach and the concerns from people who know what they're talking about of overreach - David Gerard (talk) 09:27, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

What links here?[edit]

Nothing really. Maybe someone can find something germane to weave this into the wiki with? PowderSmokeAndLeather (talk) 01:01, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
