...yep, I was a freak all right, but I was only a freak to the degree that I remained silent. When I spoke, I had a chance to educate, and, paradoxically, I became less of a freak.
Transsexual lesbian playwright and all-around fun gal Kate Bornstein, Gender Outlaw

My chosen name is Amy; my online name is Wehp. She/her pronouns please.

I contribute a lot to transgender-related articles, because as a trans person I have direct experience on those topics. On other topics I also contribute, though mostly of the "behind-the-scenes", helping out variety, due to less direct experience. I focus on trans topics because I believe the worst thing that trans people can do is be silent. I live by that quote up there, I really do.

I don't like to argue. I especially don't like to argue with people who aren't willing to consider the possibility that they might be wrong... and there are a lot of people like that. I also don't like to argue with people who are exceptionally angry and rude. I'm sure I'd be called a tone troll by some of the more adamant voices in social justice circles, but I don't believe you can change other peoples' minds by shouting obscenities at them.

I live and breathe the words of Kate Bornstein and Douglas Hofstadter. I also love math, Star Trek, and Fire Emblem. I'm a pretty quiet person to talk to. Come chat with me anyway.

Or, if you're bored, give my latest project a look.

Awesome quote[edit]

Truth is sought for its own sake ... Finding the truth is difficult, and the road to it is rough. For the truths are plunged in obscurity. ... God, however, has not preserved the scientist from error and has not safeguarded science from shortcomings and faults. If this had been the case, scientists would not have disagreed upon any point of science... Therefore, the seeker after the truth is not one who studies the writings of the ancients and, following his natural disposition, puts his trust in them, but rather the one who suspects his faith in them and questions what he gathers from them, the one who submits to argument and demonstration, and not to the sayings of a human being whose nature is fraught with all kinds of imperfection and deficiency. Thus the duty of the man who investigates the writings of scientists, if learning the truth is his goal, is to make himself an enemy of all that he reads, and, applying his mind to the core and margins of its content, attack it from every side. He should also suspect himself as he performs his critical examination of it, so that he may avoid falling into either prejudice or leniency.

Ibn al-Haytham, Doubts Concerning Ptolemy. Note that although his use of "God" sounds like it could refer to Spinoza's, he was a devout Muslim and believed in an interventionist God, so this should be taken literally. The funny thing is, either way, it's still brilliant!
