Where was I?[edit]

Wotcher dudes, what've I missed? Totnesmartin 13:33, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

  1. I talked backwards for a whole week.
  2. The demon headmaster came back and tried to hynotise the Prime Minister!! :o
  3. StickyKeys never gives up.
  4. TerryH declared war on facts, civility and music.
  5. Conservedia got several new parodists.
  6. RationalWiki got me!!
I've forgotten the rest... <blink></blink> 13:55, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Well that'll do for starters. Incidentally I notice I'm still an admin here despite buggering things up and doing sod all for several months. does nobody here have standards? Totnesmartin 13:58, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Yes. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 14:01, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
No. I was made a Bureaucrat. Twice, in fact. That link does work, it just thinks it doesn't. <blink></blink> 14:03, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
Precisely. As I said, yes, nobody here has standards. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 14:08, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
Doesn't make sense. Blatant revisionism from the liberals at RadishWiki :P <blink></blink> 14:11, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
Also TK got blocked and hasn't returned (that we know of)). He also left CP in a huff after he was accused of plagiarism. (see Conservapedia:Blatant plagiarism/UCLA). Jollyfish.gifGenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 14:06, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Welcome back TotnesMan! Well, among other things, someone buggered up something techy on the CP site and it's mostly broken, so that's fun. Oh, Andy's been trying to overturn science again too, and actually wrote to a scientist. That was funny. DogP 16:50, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

I caught the scientist's letter (The pwnage! The pwnage!) via StumbleUpon, which reminded me that I used to work make snarky comments here. Totnesmartin 16:54, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
If you haven't already done so check out the Lenski affair. It's probably the most significant event of RW's & CP's year. Lenski's reply to Aschlalfy was mega-pwn and attracted massive comment around the blogosphere. We have archived the lot and present the uncensored version of the talk page from CP. Some editors from RW had a hand in it and RW was the censored part of Lenski's reply. Jollyfish.gifGenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 17:00, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
It was indeed L'Affaire Lenski that had been stumbled. I thought I'd outgrown slapping creationists with a wet fish but the oldest pleasures are still the most satisfying. No, don't take that analogy and run with it, please. Totnesmartin 17:03, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Having fun? ^_^[edit]

Is it me or are you going through my contribs? <blink></blink> 16:42, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Is that what you call them? :) no, I was attempting to fix double redirects, but my brain hurts now.
Easier to just erase them. tmtoulouse frustrate 16:46, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
Ok then...

Are you sure you deleted the right things?[edit]

Some of them look a bit odd. I know for a fact you shouldn't have deleted user:Barack Obama. That actually served a purpose (although it might have been better directed to Chaos! rather than 85 etc etc). I'll go through the double-redirects (most are left from my renaming) next time I'm inexplicably made a sysop (that actually happens more than you might think...) <blink></blink> 17:11, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

it's very hard to tell which are joke ones and which aren't. i've just had to wade through the Andy schlaflflayalayafly article just to find to what to redirect a page from, never mind to. If you could say which ones you want to keep, then I won't make so many mistakes - and I'll resurrect Barack Obama. Totnesmartin 17:26, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
I've just been made a sysop. I plan to weed out that unnecessary bits as soon as I finish reading my TvTropes tabs. Won't be long... <blink></blink> 17:33, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
oh good! Anyway, I've gone on to a more important thing - arguing about tea. Totnesmartin
Wait, TvTropes, oh, it will be hours, it will be hours. Pinto's5150 Talk 17:41, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

And? Totnesmartin 18:31, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Humorous cats...[edit]

Maybe they should be userboxes instead? I think a couple already are... ħumanUser talk:Human 17:32, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

If I had the slightest idea how to make userboxii, I would. Is there a rule against humorous cats? We could call them lolcategories. Totnesmartin 17:40, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Well, first, the easiest way is to copy them - find one that "looks" like what you want (colors, etc.) and copy the source and edit it until you like it. Some use images in the smaller section, and some use big text, lots to choose from. Also, as I said, I suspect a couple of those exist (WPian, ex-CPian) already. There's no rule per se, but they turn up as "wanted pages" (I think), and they are likely to be a speedbump for someone trying to clean up our cats at some point. So, basically, we don't do them. If you need help translating them into userboxen, just tell me what you need help with specifically and I'll see what I can bang up with some duct tape and baling wire. ħumanUser talk:Human 18:19, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

I'll have a go at it in the morning... Totnesmartin 18:55, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

PS, there is one called {{User wikipedian}} in case you want to use it. ħumanUser talk:Human 15:20, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
Thanks. What do think of my new ones? Totnesmartin 15:21, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
That lulz one is great. Guess I didn't notice the others, I'll have to look again... ħumanUser talk:Human 15:37, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

(edit conflict):::::The only other one so far is {{user NHS}}, which has a carefully chosen main colour - 050748 is the date it was founded. The lulz one also has colours chosen for their hexademical names, but in a more fun way (they look a bit like Thai green curry, but that's good, right?) Totnesmartin 15:45, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

Oh yes, there's the NHS one. If you don't plan on writing an article on it, you might want to link it to Universal health care instead? or even Universal_health_care#United_Kingdom? ħumanUser talk:Human 15:40, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
I'll link it to Universal health care - hopefully the light blue will be readable. I'm glad you liked the lulz one, it took me all morning! Totnesmartin 15:49, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

Tit & Fr[edit]

They've been in "vandal" group for ages - can't edit more than 1ce per hour, so no need to block. SusanG  ContribsTalk 10:03, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

Solidarity! Peace out. tmtoulouse frustrate 17:50, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

aww. Totnesmartin (still no ludicrous sig, obviously not trying) 17:53, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

Totnesmartin clarified[edit]

Totnesmartin "doesn't care who wins the 2008 presidential election, as long as it's not a republican".

Does this mean there is a chance Totnesmartin will vote for a Libertarian this time around?

-- RemBeau 08:19, 3 August 2008 (EDT)

The chance of my moving to America in time (or ever) is extremely remote. Totnesmartin 08:22, 3 August 2008 (EDT)
Look, i could smuggle you in for the election if you promise to vote Libt. Or maybe you're one of those (seen them on TV) that believes Europeans should be able to vote in the US election this November.
Any chance you speak AmeroEnglish? Perhaps you've heard how we've greatly improved the mother tongue. -- RemBeau 10:44, 9 August 2008 (EDT)
1 - I don't think I could stand living in America. No tea, no curry, no alcohol in the beer... Also I'll never vote for the libertarians, who seem to think social responsibilty means th'guvmint stealin' theyar Goddam PROPERTY!!!!!!!!!!
2 - I haven't heard how the language has been improved in America, but I have come across a great many worsenings.
3 - If other countries could vote in the presidential election (even one EC point each) then the leader of the free world wouldn't be a religious maniac itching for armageddon. I don't know how you guys put up with that twat. Totnesmartin 10:53, 9 August 2008 (EDT)
Hey, ToasterMuffin,
1 - We do have tea, although you'll never get a good cuppa in a public place, gotta make it yourself. Curry is readily available, and alcohol depends on locale. My bottles of Scotch certainly seem to pack some zing...
2 - Oh really? I don't know why yo think that!
3 - I don't know, either. Somehow our politics is even more dishonest than our sport? At least people care about sport... ħumanUser talk:Human 00:49, 10 August 2008 (EDT)

Fre[edit]

I unblocked Fre. He/she/it is already a classified as a vandal so can't do too much damage. We've pretty much accepted that they will continue their petty vandalism which has a very limited target, so it's better that we can recognise the name. The simplest thing is just to go to history and hit the rollback button. Jollyfish.gifGenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 14:37, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

I know about the vandal box thing, but I'd rather boot the twats off. After 2 years of reverting schoolkid crap on Wikipedia I have a low tolerance for it. Totnesmartin 15:17, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
As a grumpy old man I have a certain sympathy for that point of view. However, tmtoulouse thinks different and it is a point of principle that we don't block any more than is absolutely necessary, unlike sysops on CP who hand out blocks willy nilly. Jollyfish.gifGenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 16:03, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
This is a genuine vandal rather than someone who disagrees with the "party line", so the argument doesn't really ring true. And it was only five days. And I didn't block his whole town :) I'm sorry if I sound grumpy, I don't want to put peoples' backs up - I enjoy my time on here and I don't want to get into arguments with fellow RWians. I'll try to grit my teeth in future. Totnesmartin 16:38, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
I don't want to get in an argument over this so suggest that if you feel strongly about it that you take it up with Trent. He wields the ultimate power on this issue. I do know that other RWians agree with your POV. Jollyfish.gifGenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 17:13, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

Category:Andrew Schlafly[edit]

Do you really think we need this? Asking rather than reverting... ħumanUser talk:Human 17:41, 25 August 2008 (EDT)

Yes, there are various things just about him, it'd be useful to have a page where somebody could find them all. Not just articles, but things like Fun:Phli and Conservapedia:The Invisible Hand of Marriage. Admittedly Copservapedia is very much in its maker's image, but Category:Andrew Schlafly would be a subset of that. Totnesmartin 17:49, 25 August 2008 (EDT)
Ah, OK, thanks. ħumanUser talk:Human 18:11, 25 August 2008 (EDT)

Chrome[edit]

I see that you'r fighting with Chrome. What do you think of it? Does it do strange things for when you cut and paste?--Bobbing up 05:05, 4 September 2008 (EDT)

Chrome's a bit weird, but it's still Beta, let's remember that. it'll get better. I was struggling to show the caption when I put an image in. I switched to firefox and did it that way, only for the caption to still not show! Maybe it's because it's a GIF, I don't know how these things work. Totnesmartin 05:30, 4 September 2008 (EDT)
OK, doesn't feel completely finished - but as you say - it's a beta.--Bobbing up 06:13, 4 September 2008 (EDT)
The caption didn't show up in IE either, so I changed "Thumb"to "thumb" and it worked. Is it better in FF & Chrome now (I'm at work and can't check). Jollyfish.gifГенгисRationalWiki GOLD member 07:38, 4 September 2008 (EDT)

Is that what it was? dur. Well this is me saying it's fine in Chrome... ...And this is me saying it's OK in Firefox. Totnesmartin 11:13, 4 September 2008 (EDT)

Is anyone else getting a glitch where, on going back a page, it goes back two pages and loses the page you were trying to get to? Totnesmartin 17:57, 4 September 2008 (EDT)

Google might be screwing up here big time - firefox works. Works well. But GC is nOt working yet for people who just want to use it. Just yankin' is all. ħumanUser talk:Human 03:18, 5 September 2008 (EDT)
Yes, it's great unless you use it - I'm back on firefox for now. Totnesmartin 03:44, 5 September 2008 (EDT)
Yes, I made the same decision. It's got some interesting stuff, but I prefer Firefox.--Bobbing up 03:47, 5 September 2008 (EDT)
Just for the info - Hotmail does not recognise chrome as able to render Windows Live and reverts to Hotmail classic. However it did this for Firefox 3 for a while so it's almost certainly a M$ thing, not a chrome thing. Silver Sloth 04:15, 5 September 2008 (EDT)
Thanks. I gave up on Whatmail years ago - also Chrome was put up to oppose micro$oft's monopoly, so it's not in their intere$t to recogni$e it. Totnesmartin 04:37, 5 September 2008 (EDT)

Is this a good idea?[edit]

Despite rationalwiki's general crusade against red links, do you think it's a good idea to go around editing archives and people's scratchpads to remove them? Seems a bit intrusive to me. --JeevesMkII 09:30, 15 September 2008 (EDT)

Hojimachong's scratchpad looks like it's been left to gather dust, he can revert if he objects. Archive pages? hmmm. maybe I was wrong there. i'll put the archive pages back as they were. Blame enthusiasm. Totnesmartin 09:35, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
When I do that I usually make the edit comment read "sorry for the intrusion"... people can always undo the change. ħumanUser talk:Human 01:03, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
I'd have asked him first but he doesn't seem to be around. If he objects he can revert and flame me personally. 03:29, 16 September 2008 (EDT) Totnesmartin

I haven't a clue what he's on about. Seems to rambly for a troll, and it's not venomous enough to be Ken or someone. I think it's just some random bloke having a pop but who can't marshall his arguments. Totnesmartin 06:32, 24 December 2008 (EST)
