Category talk:Neurodivergent people
This doesn’t need to exist. Christopher (talk) 15:51, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not neurotypical, but I don't like the term "neurodiverse" and I also see little point in this category. If you want some autism awareness spreaders, probably should go under a category like that, not "these people are autistic". --It's-a me, LeftyGreenMario! 23:21, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
- The correct term is "neurodivergent" rather than "neurodiverse" Plutocow (talk) 23:41, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
- Autism sufferers would not like their condition to be celebrated with words like "neurodiverse". Its actually quite cringy. Mm (talk) 01:22, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, moving to second point of contention: is there any use to be gleaned from categorizing people as such? Why this label and not, say, left-handed people? --It's-a me, LeftyGreenMario! 02:50, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

- I take it that this is a sensitive topic for some users. The term ostensibly may be used to promote acceptance of people who are innately different with respect to the way their brains process information. On the other hand, they do not comprise a coherent class in any sense I can imagine. The rare people who have eidetic memory function could be referred to as neurodivergent. People with speech disfluency are also assumed to be neurodivergent. It is a category that seems useful yet redundant.Ariel31459 (talk) 17:56, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
As someone who identifies as "neurodivergent" (which by the way does not solely refer to autistic people). I see this category as a little redundant and unnecessary. Like we don't categorize living persons on the basis of being black do we? It would seem very odd if we did do that wouldn't it? Neurodivergent activists and thinkers who write about such issues or talk in reference to disability rights can be put on the category portal of social justice could they not? Also I have yet to see an objection to the terminology that didn't featured internalized ableism and this thread has basically confirmed that this is still the case for me lol. -Only Sort of Dumb (talk) 02:58, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
