Essay talk:Why I support the UK’s Monarchy.
My latest essay. I was intending to create several but I've been pretty lazy. I'm planning to do a "Why I oppose the EU" essay before too long. --RWRW (talk) 15:44, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
I've always thought....[edit]
... that the U.S. ought to give itself back to Britain. But first, they need to restore the Stuarts. Smerdis of Tlön, wekʷōm teḱs. 15:53, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Smerdis of Tlön I agree. And once the US is back under British control we would will be able to end the madness of Americans microwaving water to make cups of tea, --RWRW (talk) 16:07, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- The actual point to microwaving water is to potentiate its vibrational lattice. That it gets warm enough to brew tea is just a side effect. Smerdis of Tlön, wekʷōm teḱs. 18:55, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
More reasons for supporting the monarchy[edit]
- People enjoy the pomp and circumstances and 'sheer weirdness' of the monarchy and other historical pageantry in general (Black Rod and Kings of Arms etc).
- What can be done with all the palaces and baubles?
- It is there and it works, partly because it is outside the realms of 'logic.' Anna Livia (talk) 16:01, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Anna Livia thank you for the suggestions! I'm still intending to continue work on this essay so I will definitely add your points. --RWRW (talk) 16:07, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
Killing monarchists is good[edit]
Not much to say, but seriously, we figured this one out 200 years ago. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 16:15, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- But Tumbledown Dick succeeded Oliver Cromwell.
- Which do you prefer - George IV or Richard Nixon/the Donald? Anna Livia (talk) 16:43, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- You need to keep a couple around though or else there won't be any left to kill. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 17:12, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- We don't need to be constantly killing monarchs; it's okay to run out, hell sometimes you can even just make them not monarchs anymore and they're often fine being gardeners or what-the-fuck-ever. Monarchists will keep cropping up every time an utter moron realizes they're the true peak of humanity and no one's recognizing their divine perfection, just because the the non-brainless is given the same rights. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 17:26, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- You guys may not like the idea of monarchy, but it works out fine for us. The US has so much power held directly with the President and the executive. In the UK, power is perfectly balanced
as all things should bewith a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy. --RWRW (talk) 19:47, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

you'[ve forgotten the best reason for supporting the monarch[edit]
or at least maintaining the status quo - its too much effort to get rid of and i can think of no adequate replacements that would not be just fucking awful. AMassiveGay (talk) 17:32, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- Its a good point and I'm a little surprised I didn't think about it when I wrote the essay. The essay is still a work in progress so I'll add that point (and more) next time I have enough free time. Thanks! --RWRW (talk) 19:47, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- This... this is parody, right? ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 01:05, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure all of reality is parody. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 13:21, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

Thoughts on this[edit]
If I were a Brit, I'd probably have written something very similar to this. I'm not sure the best way to word this, but the monarchy seems to be one of the UK's last cultural institutions with a truly global impact. I'm a red-blooded American patriot who smiles at the flag and plays with explosives on the 4th, so issues of national pride are ones that I closely relate to. Sure, the monarchy might be a spending suck, but it's not like the US has a clean asshole on that point either. All in all, good read, although I think you should include the exact amount that is spent on the monarchy, just to save readers the effort of clicking around and to show on the face that the monarchy pays for itself and beyond.
I also couldn't help but notice the Harry/Meghan wedding, because my mother watched it. I'm not one who really pays attention to a foreign monarchy, but that whole thing was a nice feel-good Anglo-US friendship moment, and it's always beneficial to have more of those. - @DuceMoosolini I'm pleased you liked it, I took on board the comments left on my Trump essay. I'll make the change you recommended. Yeah, Royal weddings are always great events. I always find it reassuring when I look at all the crowds of people or hear about the TV viewing figures. --RWRW (talk) 14:47, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
