May I suggest that critical comments be separated from the titles and signed- perhaps with three tildes? ГенгисYou have the right to be offended; and I have the right to offend you. 13:41, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
My critical comments are only a line long. Besides, I won't add books I don't like, so really its going to more of a hagiography than a polemic. MarcusCicero (talk) 13:46, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, but wouldn't it be better if other people commented as well? In which case the inline format doesn't work so well. ГенгисYou have the right to be offended; and I have the right to offend you. 14:01, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
- I think there should be some ways of signing and/or endorsing these suggestions. you know, so if we like one we can see what else that person recommends. DickTurpis (talk) 15:21, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
- Would the vote thingie be a good idea?--BobSpring is sprung! 15:36, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
- (EC) Something like the WIGO voting system? The only problem with adopting that is that the numbering system might be chaotic. Also comments should probably be hidden in the main, otherwise the page would get too long. Anyone up to creating a template system? - There is another issue in that we should avoid using talk pages in the forum space because it won't update with the most recent edit from talk (although I'm not as against it as Nx is, I find it useful enough for meta discussion). So comments should really go on the article, depends if you want more discussion, reviews or just listing. d hominem 15:59, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Break down fiction into genres?[edit]
The list might a get a tad unwieldy--AMassiveGay (talk) 01:23, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- Science could be broken up into disciplines too, though the list isn't too long yet... might be neat to have a short list of good pop books for various fields. --MarkGall (talk) 01:39, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- I guess the Bible and the Qur'an would go in the same fiction section.--BobSpring is sprung! 20:13, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- Now now Bob. The fiction should only be genrefied if it hits 300-400 books. MarcusCicero (talk) 13:09, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- I think that breaking up the fiction section into different genres is a grand idea, as there is a tremendous difference, for example, between Percy Shelley and Ernest Hemmingway. AnarchoGoon Swatting Assflys is how I earn my living

An older list[edit]
There's a good, if somewhat outdated, list at http://www.deaddrop.com/ReadingList.html
It came from discussions on a number of mailing lists populated mainly by computer security people. Pashley (talk) 05:15, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
