"I am fond of strong rhetoric. That is all. Americans tend to have a poor sense of the ironic and certainly lack any understanding of wit, so this reaction comes as no surprise."[edit]
As an American, I actually tend to agree with your observation here. American humor, especially in recent years, has tended to go down the tubes from the witty and intelligent (like a good Mel Brooks comedy such as Young Frankenstein or Blazing Saddles) to the stupid and childish (a film example which covers this are all those "Vague Genre Movie"-like movies (where even the titles are not original), where wit is replaced with crass nonsense). - A marine biologist developed a race of genetically engineered dolphins that could live forever if they were fed a steady diet of seagulls. One day, his supply of the birds ran out so he had to go out and trap some more. On the way back, he spied two lions asleep on the road. Afraid to wake them, he gingerly stepped over them. Immediately, he was arrested and charged with... transporting gulls across sedate lions for immortal porpoises.

- I'd go one further, Goonie, and suggest that wit in US screen writing has been completely removed from everything, and not just comedy. Where in some places you do get what you'd happily call "wit", which is natural quippy writing that is both clever and realistic, you get highly contrived lines that could only exist in a script-writer's head, as if the characters stayed awake all night rehearsing these lines over and over, then forcing a situation where they could say them. From what little I've seen of it, Gene Hunt in the US version of Life On Mars fits this perfectly. Of course, it's US comedy that seems to have suffered the most in recent years, it's getting far too "lowest common denominator", probably because of the mass groups of writers that do it, if you get a mass group of writers all trying to be funny, it sort of homogenises the whole thing, the onslaught of "Vague Genre Movies" are probably the epitome of this. I don't think that blood strike helped much, though, it probably taught everyone in US television and film that you can still scrape quite a lot of cash out of the barrel without hiring anyone with talent. moral 09:38, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

- British comedy is infinitely superior to almost any other brand. The last 20 years has seen some truly momentous developments in the genre - Brass Eye, Peep Show, Nathan Barley, etc. etc. Oh yeah, I should also add that clearly there are some American comic geniuses. The makers of South Park are probably the most accomplished writers of our generation. MarcusCicero (talk) 14:43, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- I think there are some rather broad brushes being applied here but, yes, I agree that British humour appeals more to this Brit than US humour. One thing they haven't learnt about is British Brevity (follow this TV Tropes link at your own risk). Take the US "Office" - now on series five whereas the UK version used the Fawlty Towers model of two short series and that's it. Jack Hughes (talk) 14:59, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Huey Long[edit]
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has read about him. My first taste outside of school was "Louisiana Hayride", but that was given to me by my Long-hating grandmother, (he outed a relative of hers). An iron, yet caring fist 00:39, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

- I try not to make fun of Maratrean, it'd be a bit like beating up the disabled fat kid who is annoyingly pleasant and personable. I tolerate him, even though he is an (Unsuccesful) cult leader. In answer to your statement Maratrean, yes I do have strange masturbatory habits. Though I'm not a homosexual, I jacked off to Edmund Burke's correspondance with Lord Fitzwilliam in 1795. I jack off over Burke's eloquence quite often actually. I also jack off to the thought of aspies running around in circles trying to protect each other. I call this sex game 'aspie jerk'. It has a double meaning as not only am I a jerk to aspies I also literally jerk off to them. MarcusCicero (talk) 23:18, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

I know trolling doesn't come easily to people of your intelligence, so I'm gonna give you a free extra shot out of the kindness of my heart. Remember that it helps your typing skills if you're not masturbating at the time. Mark Antony (talk) 16:15, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

- No offence but I had no idea you even existed before this morning. You are a little gnat, biting at greater animals. In no way do you even bear a resemblance to my sophisticated brand of... confrontation. MarcusCicero (talk) 21:56, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
- This is a new account. My work here has encompassed many names and places. And the fact that you call your trolling sophisticated makes me want to weep for trolls everywhere. Mark Antony (talk) 22:01, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
- The evidence speaks for itself. Just look at the website as it is now. When I first joined the thought of banning someone for more than 3 hours was anathema. Since I have joined RW became an authoritarian shithole where every sacred cow was ritually slaughtered in turn. luckily I have abandoned trolling, and have instead embraced the cause of liberty and reform. And no, you are most likely a sock of bitter old Nx, the poor fellow has spent his entire time on here confused as to why nobody respects him. You are his darker manifestation, and a weak attempt at trollery. MarcusCicero (talk) 22:03, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

- What, your masterplan was to make them more authoritarian? Nice turnaround on that. Four years later and they're sort of vaguely thinking about banning you. Wake the fuck up. Mark Antony (talk) 22:09, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
- If you weren't such an idiot, you would understand that I have been in the vandal bin, banned, and at one time any edit by either myself or one of my socks was completely vaporised (As in, the edit was deleted) Of course you (Nx) would know that, as you had led the persecution. If you weren't such an imbecile you would show due deference to your superiors. MarcusCicero (talk) 22:13, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
- You're still here. That's not banned enough for me. My win condition is to have trolls like you and me burned from the surface of Rationalwiki, leaving nothing. Watch how easy this is for me. Mark Antony (talk) 22:16, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Occasionally these steps were supplemented by outpourings of invective and bile. But mostly they involved callous manipulation. My army of socks wreaked havoc as they spread the gospel of authoritarianism amongst an increasingly desperate body politic. You are small fry, and generally irrelevant. What's this nonsense?[edit]
Sir Troll, what is this nonsense? You complain of other editors being unproductive while you yourself troll other editors of this site with your nonsense on virginity or Asperger's or lack of social skills and whatnot, and I would like to know what you truly have to offer to the community. You haven't contributed many articles (I haven't done so many myself, but really haven't been that active until just a week ago), fine. But, do you have any knowledge of history, politics, humanities, or anything not involving procreation or Asperger's that you would like to share with the RW community? Trolling is just a bunch of malarkey. Why are you demonizing other editors, anyway, like Brxbrx and Ty? You say this isn't an encyclopedia and people like Ty come here because they lack social skills in real life. This isn't an encyclopedia, you're right on that point, But people correcting grammar and stuff help make this wiki a better place. And before you accuse me of all this crap, let me ask you this: why are you here?--Colonel Sanders (talk) 23:15, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

- Most people in our world don't have or value the sincerity I do. I don't see how this will ensure that I will be disappointed for the rest of my life. I mean, I like to treat people fairly, unlike many other editors (and people, for that matter). I like to hear both sides of the story. "Marcus" (if that is your real name), I don't know who you are or where you are coming from. But from what I have observed, you seriously enjoy trolling and bashing virgins and aspies. Actually, many virgins are some of the most intelligent people around, if you ask me. But back on topic, what is your beef? And let me ask your own question again: "why are you here"?--Colonel Sanders (talk) 23:47, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- To be honest you strike me as someone incredibly innocent and naive. Do you still live at home with your parents? Have you not yet succumbed to the perils of daily life, and the inevitable misanthropy? Why am I here? Why are you fucking here? I'm sure there are intelligent virgins knocking about, I've nothing against them whatsoever. But I understand that pointing this out to them makes them cry and realise how lonely they are. That pleases me. MarcusCicero (talk) 23:51, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- Ahhh, no, I don't live with my parents, who are both deceased. Two fine Danes they were. But back to the point, I do often strike people as innocent and naive, probably because I follow the teachings of Jesus and Paul. I do understand peril and misanthropy, as I witness it every day, and it really does upset me. "Why am I fucking here?" I value reason and rationality. I study politics, history, and science on a daily basis. I consider myself a philosopher of sorts. And have you also considered the fact that not all virgins are so lonely as you say, and there does exist a community of proud virgins? I try to respect you as a fellow editor, and I ask that are you only here to poke fun at the community?--Colonel Sanders (talk) 00:00, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- You are a poor sympathetic soul who may eventually write (At the least) some mediocre poetry. But your whimsical optimism in the rationality and inherent good nature of man will eventually be punctured, and your despair will rock the heavens. Truly it is not worthwhile to go through life leaving yourself open for disappointment on such a vast scale. MarcusCicero (talk) 00:03, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Poetry? I consider myself a man of reason, not one who dabbles in the art of self-pitying teenagers! Might I ask if you are a fan of Adolf Hitler? I mean, seriously? My "whimsical optimism"? Do you believe that man is nothing more than a brute? Are you a nihilist?--Colonel Sanders (talk) 00:09, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- If I read this right (if that is even possible) Marcus is a cynical misanthrope - and a dick. A nihilist can still be an optimist, he may just have problems finding reasons for it. "I consider myself a man of reason, not one who dabbles in the art of self-pitying teenagers!" Hey! Wtf, man? --ǓḤṂ³ 00:17, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Hey man[edit]
I don't want to edit war over the Ulster redirect with you, as I find such things tedious and pointless, and will likely result in far too many people getting involved over a minor issue that really doesn't matter, so can I ask that you please leave the redirect to Northern Ireland? I know Ulster is the name of the county, not the country, but when people say "Ulster" they tend to think of NI. Also, we don't have redirects for Leinster, Munster and Connacht all directing to Ireland. Kisses! SJ Debaser 11:26, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
People erroneously think of Northern Ireland and Ulster as interchangeable. Its called British Imperialism. I say the Unionists have influenced the Rationalwikian establishment. The nationalist community has once again been betrayed by rationalwiki. Soon our time will come. A united Ireland. Then the rationalwikian will cry in terror and all shall be lost. MarcusCicero (talk) 11:45, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's all fine... but colloquially people still refer to things oddly. Americans (British perhaps as well?) refer to the Netherlands as "Holland", even though Holland is only one part of the Netherlands. We should be seeking to suit the expected colloquial usages of our audience, rather than impose a fascist dictate of usage from on high. Or are you aspie enough to tell people that they're speaking wrong? --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 11:56, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- No-one in Ireland refers to Ulster as Northern Ireland. The only people who do are unionists and misinformed Brits... MarcusCicero (talk) 12:21, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- That's not the argument, the argument is that people refer to North Ireland as "Ulster". --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 12:28, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- What people? Who are these people? MarcusCicero (talk) 12:31, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Apparently, it's North Irish unionists. --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 12:38, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Some white racists still use the 'N' word to describe black people. Should we all therefore follow their example? MarcusCicero (talk) 12:46, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Regardless of if we should follow their example, we shouldn't claim that they don't use the 'N' word to describe black people... --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 12:53, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- So should we redirect the N word to 'African Americans'? Is that acceptable in your eyes? Why are you are so racist exactly? MarcusCicero (talk) 12:57, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- I asserted no such redirect. I'm not racist, you're operating under presumptive premises that are false. --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 13:03, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- But you have just stated that you think that African Americans should be called the 'N' word. Why do you despise this community so much? MarcusCicero (talk) 13:07, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- I made no such assertion, and you already know this. But go ahead and have a little laugh regardless... --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 13:11, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Getting back on topic, "Ulster" is a colloquialism for Northern Ireland, used by people whether or not they intend to make a connotation to British rule in Ireland. Comparing it to "nigger", a word that the pretty much the entire world considers inherently racist when used toward black people, isn't a very good argument MC. SJ Debaser 14:14, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Your mother said my cock had some good arguments, and so duly obliged. Shit yeah. MarcusCicero (talk) 15:15, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
MC, it is strange, on the one hand you seem to support a united Ireland, on the other hand you seem terribly fond of Edmund Burke. I don't know for sure, but I would have thought that Mr. Burke was a unionist? (((Zack Martin)))™ 01:19, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, Edmund Burke was a unionist, but he was a unionist before the Act of Union took place, and died before Ireland and Britain were conjoined. Burke was above all one of the great liberal thinkers of world history, he despised corruption, injustice and scandal. His unionism was motivated by his desire to quash the hated Protestant ascendancy in Ireland, who would never willingly relinquish their political and economic power so long as they dominated the politics of the island. So he envisaged an act of union in conjunction with full rights for Catholics and the complete gutting and destruction of the corrupt ruling class on the island that made life so miserable for so many people. He was a farsighted man, unafraid of assuming and propagating unpopular opinions, and Ireland shall forever be in his debt. I can imagine the multitude of small minded idiots on RW, who were they alive in the late 18th century, would have jumped wholesale into the arms of the French Jacobins. And no, I couldn't really give a shit about a united Ireland one way or the other, I am completely anti nationalist and still dream of a borderless world where everyone wanders around in a toga and speaks about higher virtues such as reason, compassion, exploration and curiosity. Nationalism is a hideous ideology that emphasises our differences, and it is a disease that needs to be eradicated from all human consciousness. MarcusCicero (talk) 14:27, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Marcus[edit]
It goes in cycles, it seems. Marcus the reasonably useful editor will be around for a while, being a smart guy -- smarter than me, anyways -- making edits, being relatively benign in his snark. And then eventually Marcus the Troll appears -- usually starts off by calling someone an aspie or a virgin, and then escalates into sheer ugly craziness; pretending to edit as your brother who is caring for you as you suffer from mental illness, taking out numerous sock accounts, making wild accusations of doom for the wiki...and then you go away for a while and come back and edit until you explode again. Academia is a bitch -- most people in my department are seeing therapists/on some sort of antidepressant/self-medicating with a variety of legal and illegal substances. I know what kind of strain that life can put on a person. Do you need help? Are you seeing a professional? You behaviour is Ken-like in terms of the warning signs it displays. Keep it together, man. Keep it together. P-Foster (talk) 15:20, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

You are genuinely beneath contempt, a slimy little devil. The racist jibe is a convenient one, but it hints at your broader authoritarianism. The fact that someone says something you don't like provokes you into wishing their demise speaks volumes about a mind poisoned by its disenfranchisment in post apartheid South Africa; your bullying antics and attempts to permanantly ban me are reminiscent of apartheid era South African police with their various methods of intimidation. Your defense[edit]
I will unbin you to write a defence of your yourself on this page. It is entirely up to you whether you choose to abuse the opportunity or make a cogent rational case as you claim to be able to do. Please limit your defence to 1000 words and avoid personal remarks against other editors. If you choose to be a dick then expect to be re-binned. Генгисunbelieving 13:43, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- And how would that do me any good? If I did that I would be legitimising the charade, which as it stands is simply a jumped up lynching. You have been informed of the consequences of your actions, you are aware of my past history and my endurance. I don't intend to go anywhere. I will not abide by the decision of either the mob or the mods. I refuse to recognise either their legitimacy or their honesty.
- The logic of the lynching is stunning. It all started because Pys suffered a little gentle trolling and that whiny jumped up little bitch who promises to leave every couple of months came back and was called on for it. By PIE's OWN FUCKING ADMISSION I WAS NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG AT THE START OF THIS THING. All I did was create a wordy debate title. - You know, Marcus, I've been about the best defender you have so far, and honestly, I ain't much of a defender at all, but I'm willing to give you a chance to legitimately address this situation if you'll take it. So instead of bitching about how you're not given an opportunity to defend yourself, why don't you, you know, actually take the opportunity to defend yourself? I suspect its because there's little defense to be made. You almost start to explain your actions above, but you're not giving anyone much to go on. I honestly don't know why you give a shit about Psy's LANCB; it's basically a tradition here now. Yeah, it's silly. Who cares?
- You know, I don't know why you care about anything on this site, to be honest. It's pretty apparent that you don't like anyone here and no one here likes you. You have no interest in RW's mission, or anything about it as far as I can tell. Any normal person would have nothing to do with such a site. If you hate this community so much, why are you so adamant about remaining here? I think you're the paragon of a concern troll. You feign concern about authoritarianism here, but it's clearly disingenuous. If you have some legitimate issues with some of the material here, make it known, but I haven't seen any evidence that this is the case. You know why I don't make a stink about some power structure at a Twilight fansite? Because I don't give a shit about it, and have no vested interest in it. You should try that sometime. DickTurpis (talk) 14:18, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- Dick, I would be happy to explain myself to you via private communications, possibly via email. But I will not and must not do so here, because to do that would be to lend legitimacy to a thoroughly vile and violent act of political oppression. Drop me an email and I will fully explain and defend myself. I will also allow you read some of the documents I've compiled over the years, scholarly analyses of this website's powerstructure, its violent contempt for anything other than extreme far left secularism etc. etc. I can explain everything to you via email should you so desire. But I will NOT take part in the show trial. 86.45.202.107 (talk) 14:25, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- You can send me whatever you like; my RW email-thingy should be active, but if you want it to make any difference you should make it public. And this "vile and violent act of political oppression" melodrama is getting tiresome. Claiming the illegitimacy of the authority of, let's see, the sum total of just about everyone on this site except for you? Come on, what would satisfy you as legitimate? If you won't defend yourself there's not much anyone can do for you. DickTurpis (talk) 14:59, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- If you actually want to bring up good arguments against the power structure, doing it publicly might actually change the opinion of others. Even mine. But how can claiming that the mods are illegitimate and that most users here are authoritarian change any of that? Through sitting still people didn't change anything, non-violence and speech on the other hand did. If you sent Dick something would you consider sending it to me too? 'Cause after all, it's not like I'm not interested in what you have to say. --uhm, t! 15:34, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

For the purposes of justice and posterity, I state my case[edit]
This entire thing is all so silly. The chain of events has already been established, but has been lost somewhere amidst the hysteria and the general bad feeling running through this place like a current or flash of collective delusion. All I did was this: I posted a debate intended to be between myself and AD and was then vandal binned by Psygremlin. I was given sysop powers to unbin myself so I did so. Pys thought otherwise. He already tried to do me in once before but failed. By PIE’s own admission, I was doing nothing wrong at the time of this incident.
This is why this entire case is a sham. Anyone who is thinking of this either objectively or logically would reach the inescapable conclusion that this event has nothing to do with the events of the last couple of days but rather goes back years. It is a squalid little attempt to get rid of me and it will not work.
I understand this ‘statement’ is essentially useless as the decision has already been made and no amount of fair minded reason will combat the hysteria of the mob when in full motion. The simplest explanation is that Psygremlin is an egregiously authoritarian human being and cannot handle the fact that I don’t bullshit around or pretend to have fake friendships on the internet. I see through his petty emotionalism and have no problems telling him like it is. Many people such as Foster, Nutty Roux etc. Were more than happy to egg me on when I was combating the aspies and the noobs who were general irritants. The moment I take on someone like Psygremlin they immediately stand behind their fellow class warrior. The entire thing is absurd, it is a show trial.
I know things. I have an inbox full of emails from around a dozen members here who have at various times used me as a convenient tool to get at their pet hates, the people they disliked. They thought of me as their creature whom they could manipulate to get their own way. It suited me of course, as I then had a reliable core of allies whom I could rely on to unban/unbin me once things cooled down. We entered into a social contract, and we both benefited.
The core difference here, of course, is that I clearly made a move against someone too powerful, and am now being punished for that. Take Foster as an example. Around a month ago he crat-ted me and stated that I was one of the few members making any sense around here. This was when noob/aspie activity was at its most intense. Now he has made a complete u-turn. Don’t worry buddy, I won’t reveal any secrets. You can sleep tight for now.
The case is this; I went after somebody too powerful, and now I am cut loose and out in the wild. My patrons have abandoned me. That is the case.
I hope you all understand that I never could have lasted so long without significant inside collaboration. That was the key to both my charm and my considerable success. Choose not to believe that if you want – the guilty parties know who they are. That is my statement, for what is worth. I could ‘leak’ things over the next while; I might even publish some of the incriminating emails in question. That would be embarrassing, wouldn’t it?
MARCUSCICERO
- I'm in favor of the leak idea, though mostly for my own selfish vindication- so leaking emails would be bad, though I'd love to say "I told you so." And we'd have no reason to believe in the legitimacy of the mails.--User:Brxbrx/sig 15:54, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think anyone's making the case that this is about your latest scuffle with Psy, so pointing that out isn't terribly relevant. "Three years of trolling" (or something to that effect) is a term that's been bandied about. Your main line of defense seems to be that you were doing others' dirty work for them, which might incriminate them, but hardly exonerates you. If you want to leak anything, well, it's hardly unprecedented on this site. I'll leave that up to you. In he meantime you've hardly defended your consistently obnoxious behavior, and have ignored pretty specific evidence against you, including this quite damning edit. I'll keep a weather eye on my inbox for anything you might care to send my way, but I'm far from inclined to believe you're being unfairly targeted. DickTurpis (talk) 16:14, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- Whether I am a troll or not is a complete red herring. It is irrelevant. RW does not discriminate against trolls. Or at least it shouldn't. I am obnoxious because I enjoy it. Psygremlin is obnoxious because he doesn't know how to be anything else. There is a difference. I've stated already my philosophical purpose here, many times. RW will eventually accept that it will undergo symbiosis, and that is all there is to say about that. 83.71.19.30 (talk) 16:18, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- No, it's not irrelevant, I'm afraid. And if you've stated your "philosophical purpose" I seem to have missed it. To me it appears to be to stir up shit. If that's the case then it's no wonder 90% of the membership here wants you gone. DickTurpis (talk) 16:38, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
Marcus, the allegations you bring could have huge repercussions. You allege that the "elite" of the wiki have been "contracting you out" to eliminate annoying n00bs, like a thug payed to attack Tahrir demonstrators. If you are serious, then release these emails and state who tried to use you to purge the wiki. I assure you it is in the interests of both the wiki and yourself to be honest.--Talpidae (talk) 16:44, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Wankers?[edit]
I wonder why are you so addicted to this word? I mean, eh, of course they are all wankers and they are all whiny to some degree, but so are you. (I myself don't do anything so immoral, but I'm way to cool for this site anyway). I once knew a man whose every other word was somehow related to homosexuality: "gays this, gays that, I saw gay porn when I was in Germany, it was so yucky" etc etc and his obsession was so obvious that he actually turned out to be gay himself, I wonder if this is happening here too? Are you addicted to masturbation? Do you watch too much porn? Don't be afraid to ask for help; Doctor Fifty-Nine helps everyone! (except those bastards 58 and 57)
You should start by simply regulating your masturbation frequency. It is possible for teenagers like you to cure masturbation without medication, but it highly depends on the degree of the damage in the brain's acetylcholine, dopamine and serotonin nervous systems. To regulate your ejaculation frequency, you have to learn the recycling of sexual energy with the Anal Breathing Method, which allows you to burn testosterone in the tailbone area to recharge the brain and spinal nerves via the tailbone sensory-parasympathetic nervous circuits in S1-S5 and CO. It will take you 6-12 months to master this method.
You have to change your diet too. Reduce the intake of red meat and cheese (down to 30-50%) and increase the intake of seeds, nuts, beans, fresh fruits and vegetables. --Idiot number 59 (talk) 21:03, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Considering voting for you[edit]
Hello,
I looked at your campaigning and so far I'm impressed. I want you to look at the edit history of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and this subsequent development. I feel like my contributions in said case were valid and that I was being unjustly attacked due to being a Conservapedia editor who's not very liked here. I don't mind the fact that Hippocrite disagrees with me, what's bothering me is the fact that he removed my contributions without giving an explanation for what was wrong with them and then threw a litany of ad hominems at me. Would you as a moderator help prevent such occurrences from happening? - ConservapediaMarkman (talk) 21:14, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Let me be clear - personal abuse when is warranted and to be encouraged in certain cases. Furthermore the way to change mainspace articles you disagree with is by editing the article in question and then creating a discussion in the talk page. If the person is still being a dick, just keep editing the article until the mob gets its act together and deals with the fuckwit (whomever that may be) in question. By 'dealing' with that person, I mean telling him to stop being a wanker and fuck off if he doesn't like it. Constant reversion and edit warring is essentially vandalism and vandalism should be dealt with by bans. I have no issue with banning vandals who interfere with mainspace. But talk pages should have every kind of voice heard, regardless of how silly or irritating. If you are looking for somebody willing to utilise the moderatorship machine, then I'm afraid you will have wasted your vote by giving it to me. I don't think you understand what I mean by 'abolitionist'. MarcusCicero (talk) 21:41, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Right, because war causes more and better change than peace. Durk Titanium (talk) 21:43, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Firstly, why is change automatically considered to be a good thing? Secondly, people living in totalitarian systems have 'peace', but they don't have liberty. I'm sure you wouldn't really care too much about liberty though so long as the riff raff were off the streets and the trains ran on time. MarcusCicero (talk) 20:46, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- I am planning to take my case to the Ginsburg talk page soon. I think that now I better understand your abolitionist plans. Just out of curiosity, how are you going to act as an abolitionist moderator? Will that be the same as the absenteeism of Sinn Fein? - ConservapediaMarkman (talk) 21:47, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Similar to Sinn Fein, but the key difference is that I would use my influence in the relevant platforms to make a case for abolition. I would not partake in 'dispute resolution' measures. The only exception I would make would be in taking down a moderator who had abused his powers (In my opinion simply being a moderator is an abuse of power) MarcusCicero (talk) 20:46, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

Karl Popper argued that the open society cannot tolerate intolerance.[edit]
The problem with framing the debate like that is that "intolerance" can be a pretty open concept. There's a big difference between, say, holding a political viewpoint, or a religious belief, or a sexual identity that is at odds with that of the majority and expecting to be treated with the respect due a human being and a member of a particular "open society" regardless, and say, being an aggressive jerk who says reprehensible things to total strangers and expecting that behavior to be "tolerated." I fear that one may try to use the former as a cover for the latter. If I knew the way/I would take you home. 16:36, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- I think the fear is that extremists will avail of the liberal attitudes to dissent common in much of the west, but clearly would not reciprocate were they ever in power themselves. For much of the Postwar period this was very much an abstract concern, because the chances of an extremist party gaining absolute power in any western democracy was very remote. That has changed recently, of course, with the success of various neo nazi and right wing populist parties across Europe since the financial crisis. Should the Greeks ban Golden Dawn, a party that is so obviously far right neo-nazi that it doesn't even bother to hide it? Or should it tolerate it, hoping to engage in its ideas and thus change the votes of its mostly soft supporters? Would banning it do any good in the first place? Denying the holocaust in Greece can earn you a jail sentence, but clearly this has not stopped the rise of a party that either denies the holocaust or glorifies it. In my mind, criminalising opinions, however vile, is the road to madness. Better to recognise the rot rather than pretend it doesn't exist. MarcusCicero (talk) 16:42, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- I don't disagree. But I also think that's not quite what's at play in your choice of debate topics. If I knew the way/I would take you home. 16:48, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- How would you frame such a debate? MarcusCicero (talk) 16:49, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not too sure, and I need to get back to the books, but in this context, I would try to weave in a caveat that such things as personal attacks, language deployed for the sole reason of offending a particular individual, and behavior undertaken with the sole objective of undermining a particular "society" for no other reason than to undermine it are not included under the rubric of "things that need to be tolerated by the open society." If I knew the way/I would take you home. 16:56, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- How are you going to regulate such speech? Under your logic Geert Wilders would be banned from participating in Dutch politics (As well as many US Republican politicians) There would be too many exceptions that it would never be workable. It would get Orwellian, very quickly. You would be institutionalising political correctness, and degrading the very concept you want to protect in the first place. Better to tolerate the fascist or hateful remarks rather than run off with the statute book every time somebody says something mean. MarcusCicero (talk) 16:59, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

- Take it easy pal. I honestly think asperger's is a made up fucking condition, a few people share character traits and all of a sudden they have a 'disease'. Takes all sorts to make a world, of course. We know very little about the brain, in truth. MarcusCicero (talk) 19:49, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

- It seems I did not have to wait long for the regime to make its initial counter revolutionary move, a pity that it would have to be Genghis. The moderate facade of this odious regime, who would become its shrill enforcer. MarcusCicero (talk) 21:12, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

Reactionary[edit]
Have you ever thought that your desired return to the mobocracy (which we haven't really left) is reactionary rather than revolutionary? That you're in fact just promoting the interests of the wiki-bourgeois? That you're nothing but a Girondin?--"Shut up, Brx." 22:54, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- It is an interesting point you raise Brx, but given the resistance of the bourgeois to the changes it is unlikely that this is all some sort of grand conspiracy. How could it ever be in their best interests to be disbanded, dis-empowered and discarded? It is good to see that you are finally back Marcus, not the kowtowing impostor of the last couple of weeks. For two long years we have awaited your return; to be this close to triumph is sweet indeed. Tielec01 (talk) 06:16, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
