This is silly[edit]

Why on earth are we going to include articles in other languages on this wiki? If it is an attempt to obtain more hits then I am sure that Ken

would be proud of the scheme. I am not so enthusiastic and I think we need to have a site wide discussion as to whether it is a good idea. DamoHi 22:57, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
That's already been done, at least once. WēāŝēīōīďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 23:02, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
(EC) We've had multiple discussions. Blue (pester) 23:03, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Where? I thought the discussion would be on this page and it isn't so I naturally assumed there hadn't been any. Any chance of a link? --DamoHi 23:09, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
I think there was one on Trent's talk page, and in the SB, and a forum, but I can't remember exactly what they were called. </unhelpful> Blue (pester) 23:11, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Whilst I agree that it's far too big of a project to attempt a multiple language RationalWiki, I could see some benefit to having a few of our flagship articles translated but still hosted here, assuming of course that we have the personnel to do so. (Language tidbit: The Norwegian word for science is vitenskap, which literally translates as the knowledge cupboard (or closet) - science is indeed the place where all knowledge is stored!) UI) Having read some of the other discussions I can see that I am very late in coming to this topic. I wish I had followed recent changes a bit closer a month or two ago and I might have influenced the decision somewhat but I see that the mob has spoken. I have registered my protest and I will leave it at that. --DamoHi 23:55, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

I understand that I am coming way too late into this conversation, but could somebody be so kind as to point me to a location where I can have a look at the "other discussions" on this? I would really like to find out what the overall consensus is before I expend any more time and effort into producing any other non-English articles. I am very happy to carry on with them, but not if they are (apparently) not welcome. Hagios (talk) 18:04, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Hindi?[edit]

I translated a few of the articles I started in Hindi here. Interested in a new section?--Mr. Bojangles (talk) 20:30, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Creating a template for a new language project[edit]

Any idea how to do this? I am (very) new to this and currently trying to produce greek versions of some of the most popular RationalWiki articles, so essentially I am looking to create Template:Gr as per instructions. I have a strong suspicion that it may have something to do with me not having permissions to edit pages in the Template space - how would I get permission for that? Thanks.Hagios (talk) 23:28, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

You should be able to edit it 24 hours after you join. TyJFBAA 23:28, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

new language sub-domain[edit]

Hallo there! I'd really like to start the italian project of rational wiki. I wonder if there's a way to obtain a it.raionalwiki.org domain. Sorry for the silly question, I'm a n00b :D — Unsigned, by: UnaManu / talk / contribs

First thing to do: write a pile of articles in the mainspace with a suitable category on them. Second: get an actual community of multiple people working on them - David Gerard (talk) 15:39, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

thank you for your reply. We've just started the project, and we are trying to recruit some people for the translations. If there's anybody interested, here's the fb group of the project ita: https://www.facebook.com/groups/427706977368514/ — Unsigned, by: UnaManu / talk / contribs

Should different language pages have their own categories?[edit]

I was looking at Template:Logfal and noticed there are a bunch of Farsi pages being pulled through to the template via dynamic page lists. I would assume this happens with every other navigation template that pulls links based on categories. The easiest solution would be to remove the English categories from non-English pages (in any case, I'm not sure how useful these are to begin with). Blue (is useful) 20:35, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Bunping this in case anyone has any input re the removal of English categories from non-English pages. Blue (is useful) 00:07, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
Okay, having removed English cats from the Chinese/Esperanto articles, I've realized another solution would be to add a hidden "non-English" category to non-English pages. That would make it easy for a DPL parameter to be added to, say, Template:Navbox, to exclude pages from that category. Blue (is useful) 18:53, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
