Talk:Human sacrifice
Not sure whether general infanticide belongs in here as well. It's less "religion of evil" and more "harsh reality of life without birth control". If there wasn't enough food to go around, someone had to die. Might as well be someone you didn't care too much about. So, the infants, because the other choice was going to war, in which case you might not be the one that lived. What, just not have sex? Hah! The rituals and religion was basically a post hoc justification; we aren't killing the kids because we don't have enough food, we don't have enough food because Vengeful Snake God of War is displeased at our lack of sacrifice! Gather tribute of kids (and food) from the neighboring villages! What are they going to do, fight back? Their warriors had already been deveoured in infancy by Vengeful Snake God of War!
It wasn't just "primitive" tribes that did it. Carthage did it (notably, it was the NOBLES' kids first), Greece murdered their daughters (which meant they had to invade the next town over to find a wife), Rome just had constant invasions to deal with overpopulation.
The real lesson is thank whatever gods you have that condoms exist. CorruptUser (talk) 17:50, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
Mesoamerica[edit]
How much can we be sure that all of the shit the Aztecs allegedly committed was not Spanish propaganda? It seems awfully suspicious to me, at the very least citations should be added. I may do a rewrite of this whole article to be honest sometime in the near future. — Oxyaena Harass 12:43, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
- People have been uncovering archaeological evidence of Aztec human sacrifice for decades. DuceMoosoliniYour friendly RW
dictatormoderator 13:22, 4 October 2019 (UTC)- Well yes, but obviously "archaeological evidence" does not automatically correlate with the graphic descriptions of Aztec sacrifice the Spaniards left behind, how sure can you be that the stuff listed in that section wasn't just Spanish propaganda? At the very least find citations for this shit. — Oxyaena Harass 16:08, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
- @DuceMoosolini Mea culpa, I`m an idiot. I knew about these practices beforehand, such as the flaying of women to honor Xipe Totec, the "Flayed Lord," but I had a huge brainfart. — Oxyaena Harass 14:39, 12 October 2019 (UTC)
