Talk:Think tank
Tanks[edit]
Tanks are also used (a) to hold much water sloshing around (replace with 'dialogue'); (b) fish (much fishy debate goes on); (c) as mobile guns with operators totally enclosed firing at the enemy (c) a tin can on wheels whose inhabitants are in very close proximity, with a gun to fire at other tanks, rather than protecting the pb infantry (or students) (From Murphy's laws of tanks: Tanks draw fire. A lot of it. It does not behoove the infantryman to hide behind one). Thus the term is entirely apposite for the 'thinkers.' 82.44.143.26 (talk) 18:02, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Tank is also a verb. ħuman 03:57, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Maybe this is better discussed on the [Eliezer Yudkowsky] page. But to what extent is the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (or MIRI) a vanity think tank for Eliezer Yudkowky? I think it's fair to categorize it that way, especially because of the several years it was a floundering non-pprofit. It was, and is, mainly kept afloat by Peter Thiel for Elizer Yudkowsky. Though it arguably *has* evolved into more of a advocacy institute. And it aspires to effect policy too.
So should it be added to the vanity think tank list? Caquilino (talk) 17:57, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
I think we should purge this list as well[edit]
We already have a category for think tanks, and if someone wants to see a list of think tanks, well, they can use Google or Wikipedia. It strikes to me as yet another low-effort, low-quality, useless list. Thoughts? GeeJayKWhere all evil dwells Where every lie is true 18:55, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
