Technical bits[edit]
Bible Generator[edit]
Use this code: <bible book="(name)" chapter=(X) verse1=(first verse) verse2=(last verse) /> to quote any biblical passage you wish!
Verse2 is an optional argument, if you only want one verse. Here are some examples of use:
<bible book=Genesis chapter=1 verse1=1/> gives:
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God [Elohim] created the heaven and the earth.
<bible book="Numbers" chapter=1 verse1=1 verse2=3/> gives:
Numbers 1:1-3
And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;
From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies.
Known bugs features[edit]
This extension is not perfect, and there are a few problems:
- The text does not show up in diffs, although the link part does.
- If the book linked has a space in its name (eg "2 Samuel") the link will not work properly - it will not go to the section, only the page:
- 2 Samuel 2:2
So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail Nabal's wife the Carmelite.
Further bugs should be reported here.
Bible links[edit]
If you just want the link, but not the text, try {{bible}}
:
{{bible|1 Samuel|2|12}}
produces: 1 Samuel 2:12.{{bible|Matthew|16|21}}
produces: Matthew 16:21.
You can work out the rest from there.
Everything is easier on a Mac[edit]
There's apparently an AppleScript and a Mac OS X service available that'll convert Biblical references into links to the Annotated Bible. Contact Concernedresident if you'd like to obtain the latest version. (Supposedly you can get it from here, but the link provided there gives a 404 error. This old revision of the page contains something that is probably it, however.)
