Alpha-Omega Institute (AOI) is a Christian young Earth creationist institution founded by Institute for Creation Research Graduate School alumni Dave and Mary Jo Nutting. Dave Nutting earned a Master of Science in Geology and Mary Jo Nutting held a Master of Science in Biology from the ICR Graduate School; unlike the Institute for Creation Research the Alpha-Omega Institute does not claim to be a research organization.[1][2]

About

The AOI has a major persecution complex as they claim that evolution is leading to "moral decay"; In 1984, the AOI was founded to stop this "moral decay" by indoctrinating teaching kids and adults about creationism as scientific fact. AOI is billed as an "educational outreach" teaching people about a literal interpretation of the Book of Genesis in the Bible.[3]

AOI helps people of all ages:

  • Discover answers to questions about evolution, creation, and the Bible.
  • Understand the foundational importance of Genesis to Christian doctrine.
  • Recognize evolutionary bias and its effects on society.
  • Stand firm and defend their faith with boldness, gentleness, and confidence.[4]

What AOI provides

  • Discover Creation Seminars and Events (for adults, youth, and families)
  • Children’s Ministry (VBS, AWANA, camps, etc.)
  • Discover Creation Adventures — "Vacations with a Purpose" (family camps, youth camps, and tours)
  • Discover Creation Training Institute (DCTI – unique one-year opportunity)

Beliefs

There is one true God who has created all things. He is infinitely perfect and exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Scripture (both Old and New Testaments), as the inspired word of God, is without error in the original writings and provides the basis for our faith in Jesus Christ. The Scripture clearly reveals salvation only through faith in Jesus Christ, who is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross to atone for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, and is preparing a place for those who have received Him. The Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, convict men of sin, and regenerate the believing sinner who He then indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers for Godly living and service. Man was created in the image of God and he, like all creation, did not evolve from "lower" forms. Man fell into sin, and in so doing, caused the whole creation to be put into the bondage of sin and corruption. God created everything in six literal days, and man wrecked it in but a moment. On the brighter side, God will restore His creation in the near future when He creates a new heaven and new earth.[7]

Camps and tours

The AOI offers camps and tours to sites such as Yellowstone National Park and Costa Rica among others where speakers will indoctrinate teach people on how everything came into existence by the work of God.[8]

Discover Creation Training Institute

The DCTI offers a one year certificate in creation science apologetics with classes in: Anthropology, Ancient Man, Bible Studies, Historical Studies, Communication and Evangelism. [12]

DCTI Goals:

  • To encourage students to think and reason so they can cement a Biblical Worldview as the foundation for their lives.
  • To “fire-proof” students so they can stand firmly in their faith.
  • To help already “shell-shocked” students connect their hearts and minds in faith. (According to the AOI, learning about Evolution leads to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)
  • To challenge and disciple students to find their own God-directed passion and purpose.
  • To provide students with practical ministry experience.
  • To equip and empower students to impact classmates and others with “gentleness and reverence.“ [13]

One major way students learn about creationism is to go on the tours mentioned above. [14]

Speakers

  • Dave Nutting: Founder of AOI who holds a M.Sc in Geology from the Institute for Creation Research Graduate School. One of Dave's topics is, "Was Darwin Wrong? Part 1:Cavemen and Fossils" which contains pseudoscience surrounding ancient human and humanoid species.[15]
  • Mary Jo Nutting: AOI co-founder who holds a M.Sc in Biology from the Institute for Creation Research Graduate School. One example of Mary Jo's topics is, "You Can do it! A home-school pioneer shares challenges and Insights" which is about forcing creationism on to kids via homeschooling. [16]
  • Lanny Johnson: Said to have a degree in geology but internet searches turn up nothing on these supposed credentials and the AOI website does not mention Lanny's education level nor where he got his claimed geology degree from.[17]
  • Marilyn Johnson: Said to have a degree in geology but like Lanny, AOI does not mention where her degree is from nor what education level.[18]
  • Richard Stepanek: Listed as a speaker but does not have any science credentials at all yet he is able to "teach" about biology and paleontology as well as an actual scientist who is trained in these fields.[19]
  • Brian Mariani: Listed as a speaker on creation and evolution but has no credentials in biology.[20]
  • Aimee Mariani: Again, listed as a speaker on creation and evolution but has no biology credentials. [21]
