Perhaps green would be better. Locke User is Vandal/sysop Always Watching...... 18:55, 13 September 2007 (MDT)

Holy crap, NaNoWriMo, I forgot about that. Tried it a few years ago, managed to finish in only 9 days. --Kels 19:46, 13 September 2007 (MDT)

Impressive! O_o I tried it last year, but I had to study for a fairly important exam, so I had to abort early. Not sure if I'll try it this year... --Sid 13:04, 14 September 2007 (MDT)
Well, in fairness it read like a novel that was only written in 9 days, but at least I got it done. I've drifted away from writing since then, so I haven't taken another shot. Maybe someday. --Kels 11:30, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

CP's Alexa rankings[edit]

Just checked here http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.conservapedia.com and the downturn in page views is quite dramatic.:--Remarcsd 18:57, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

On the global scale (measured over months), definitely, yes. Boycott duration... not really, it seems. And I'm not terribly surprised, either, since our pageviews (or the absence of pageviews) are only registered if we used the Alexa Toolbar - and so far, I don't know of anybody who uses it. Which isn't to say that nobody here uses it, but I dunno of any so far. --Sid 19:24, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Your little boycott drove me back here[edit]

Because apparently, it made TK bored or something, and he IM'd me, randomly, but called me Cat again. (For the record, I just told him he must have a sad little life and blocked him.) He's such a dumbass. MyaR 10:17, 17 September 2007 (EDT)

Conservapedia is NOT far right extremist[edit]

CP is moderately conservative neocons with a focus on religious conservatism but little focus on other issues (homosexuality being another exception), and even if it is more than moderately conservative, the term "far right" only refers to neonazis (like me). Duo 22:24, 30 November 2007 (EST)

global timing[edit]

As "Ed @ CP" noted, our switching things "on" and "off" (both here and at holydaze in general) is often clumsy with regard to the fact that we are scattered over this spinning planet. So for some "one day" things, sometimes the earliest folks turn things "on" and the latest turn them "off", making a one day banner last almost 48 hours (which is fine). No exclusionary intention should be drawn from errors like "starting" a boycott 12 hours after the time it should have started in the most eastern time zones. humanUser talk:Human 10:58, 16 February 2008 (EST)

I think we should establish Central European Time the official RW time zone, on account of it being awesome. Nods.gif --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 11:26, 16 February 2008 (EST)

Dolphin Olympics[edit]

I'm sorry, but how is 7.1 million points even possible. I get, like 10k, and am obviously inept. DogP 20:05, 21 February 2008 (EST)

Harmonic time cube!

I got over 31 million points on RW just yesterday. It's all in "how" you edit! humanUser talk:Human 20:09, 21 February 2008 (EST)

You have to make sure it's all one continuous combo, with a huge multiplier. And talislides... lots and lots of tailslides. --Hojidie! 20:10, 21 February 2008 (EST)
That game is amazing. It's totally what got me through Administrative Law last year. I think I topped out at 2m, and ironically, I stil did really well in the class. Apparently paying attention was not a key thing to do.-αmεσ (soldier) 11:13, 22 February 2008 (EST)

Someone breaking the boycott?[edit]

See here and here. --Dragon 11:05, 22 February 2008 (EST)

Yup, I surely was! :) SusanPurrrrr 11:08, 22 February 2008 (EST)
Wait, was MexMax you?-αmεσ (soldier) 11:12, 22 February 2008 (EST)
No, MexMax must have been HelpJazz. It's always suspicious when a non-sysop just happens to be around when mass vandalism occurs. I reckon it was to give him kudos with Adny so he could get teh rihgts! Jollyfish.gifGenghis Marauding 11:34, 22 February 2008 (EST)
Certainly wasn't me: I'm not in to cross dressing. :( SusanPurrrrr 11:41, 22 February 2008 (EST)
Oh, Susan, you are so coy! You've told us you aren't into men, and you aren't into cross-dressing. You've got me in suspenders! Who or what are you into?!? PoorEd 11:52, 22 February 2008 (EST)
Let's remember that this is a family encyclopedia. (It's hell being on broadband - you can so easily say teh wrong thing) I'm into 1 (one) lady. (So's she!) SusanPurrrrr 12:04, 22 February 2008 (EST)
( too many colons for me) err . . . forgive my prurient mind but, is it the same lady? 12:09, 22 February 2008 (EST)
I heart her; she heart me - OK. Right that's enough! Sit down at the back! Nothing to see here!! Just move along now. SusanPurrrrr 12:15, 22 February 2008 (EST)
Nicely put. PoorEd 12:21, 22 February 2008 (EST)
Oh, well. That's hot! Exasperate me!Sheesh!I said what? 12:18, 22 February 2008 (EST)

Achewood[edit]

To be honest, I've never actually cared for it. Occasionally been linked to one that's raised a smile, but nothing particularly outstanding. --Kels 22:14, 10 August 2008 (EDT)

Don't be an Achewood denier. It is the funniest goddamn comic ever.--Tom Moorefiat justitia ruat coelum 22:39, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
Nope, nothin'. A weak smile at the basketball one, otherwise just "meh". --Kels 22:46, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
They're all rated 4.8 out of 5 but I barely laugh at all. I don't get it either--DamoHi 23:18, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
Gee, there was some subtle humor there. You know, tiny geek humor, like "cookies". Compare to Calvin and Hobbes? I don't think so. Remove it from the list? Nah, someone might enjoy it... ħumanUser talk:Human 23:29, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
Oh, I'm not saying to take it out. I'm just saying it's overrated, is all. Only Achewood strip I've ever laughed at was the Comic Sans one, that was worth it. Ozy and Millie or A Softer World are more my speed. --Kels 23:34, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
I don't want to pass judgment or anything, but you guys should be shot and then your corpses should be shot again.--Tom Moorefiat justitia ruat coelum 23:34, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
Just went through those ones you linked to again. Nope, still not funny. --Kels 23:44, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
Three times for you!--Tom Moorefiat justitia ruat coelum 23:57, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
You ever think, maybe it's you? --Kels 06:36, 11 August 2008 (EDT)
If it weren't for the empirical evidence to the contrary, maybe. But I am a highly qualified baraminologist, so I can assure you that the problem is you guys.--Tom Moorefiat justitia ruat coelum 06:52, 11 August 2008 (EDT)
This is like Garfield with more panels and more words. 59.167.38.138 00:09, 15 February 2009 (EST)
As with Kels, I've always had a soft spot for this one. Also A Softer World is pretty good when it isn't being boring and emo.
Me gustan Hark! A Vagrant. y Dead Philosphers in Heaven también. No sé por que estoy hablando Español; quizá sea por que tengo un examen importante manaña. También estoy aburrido por que no puedo visitar Conservapedia. - Jpop (talk) 02:24, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
This is a really old conversation, isn't it? - Jpop (talk) 02:27, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

The Games[edit]

When does table tennis (ping pong) air on the olympics? TV Guide just highlights stuff like women's beach volleyball and basketball crap. o.O The real sock of a sock... known as Chaosfish 20:09, 11 August 2008 (EDT)

Why?[edit]

Now don't get me wrong here. I love having casual gay sex with my boyfriend on an American flag while voting for a coloured, proper English spelling president who is divorced to a woman who had an abortion a loooooong time ago, but why the CP boycott? Why so boycott, RW? — Unsigned, by: 70.101.216.161 / talk / contribs

You sound like you ought to sign up for one of our FREE accounts! We probably will wind it up in the next day or two, after all, a week is enough. Goals of the Boycott[edit]

Perhaps I'm stupid (okay, likely I'm stupid, but bear with me), but are any of the goals actually valid? A quick rundown:

  • Remove Trashionalwikians from the editing pool at far-right extremist blog Conservapedia, in order to divine how much of their traffic is generated by RationalWiki members;
We already know. After five previous boycotts, WE KNOW ALREADY. Don't do it again, thinking it might have changed somehow, that's the definition of insanity. Or at least pointlessness.
  • Starve Conservapedia of intarwebternet oxygen, by cutting it off from its largest source of traffic;
If CP gets one visit annually, both Ken and Andy will crow about its steady growth. A non-starter.
  • Enrage TK by removing the supply of victims his pent-up sexual tension is normally released upon;
Boycotts don't reduce parodists, otherwise they'd out themselves. They also don't stop people finding CP by other means, so TK can get his jollies regardless.
  • Encourage deep paranoia in RobS by going into radio silence, the language of spies and conspirators;
Not exactly a pressing concern.
  • Cause tremendous confusion in Conservative by allowing him to run rampant through every article unhindered;
He already does. You think we slow him down any? Hell, I want to encourage him.

So, uh, given the above, why do we keep having boycotts? --Kels 20:08, 12 February 2009 (EST)

This wins. Neveruse513 20:11, 12 February 2009 (EST)
How about I do this, Kels - next time someone raises the idea, I'll oppose instead of insta-approve, and also try to remember to let you know where it's being discussed? That way you'll have a much better chance of getting it postponed (indefinitely). ħumanUser talk:Human 20:48, 12 February 2009 (EST)
Boycotts are a sort of tradition to prove that we don't need CP. If the site grinds to a halt and courses this much hysteria because we are not going to look at it for a week what is going to happen to RationalWiki if Andy ever decides to pull the plug? A boycott is really a measure for our resilience in a post-Conservapedia world (I prey for the day). - User 20:52, 12 February 2009 (EST)
I thought this one was your idea, Human? In any case, once I saw the Intercom message I knew to go check it out, but it was a bit late by then. I'm not really against the idea of a boycott, so long as there's a reason, but the whole repeated boycott thing gets on my nerves after a while. The first two or three, no problem, but I've been voting against them ever since. --Kels 21:19, 12 February 2009 (EST)
Not my idea, no. Perhap what we should really do is schedule them well in advance so people can stock up on perishables. Like, two a year or something. Or, of course, not bother. Or, perhaps as you might mean, boycott CP over specific things when they aggrieve us? ħumanUser talk:Human 21:28, 12 February 2009 (EST)
Two a year still seems excessive. Perhaps once every two years would make more sense. --Kels 21:36, 12 February 2009 (EST)
Once a year seems like a nice compromise. ħumanUser talk:Human 21:50, 12 February 2009 (EST)
We could always make it when Andy truly says something offensive. But since liberals are never offended about anything, there'd never be a boycott again. --Kels 23:30, 12 February 2009 (EST)
Just wait for him to mention alternative lifestyles again. Under 'Best New Liberal Words.' He'll probably do something incredibly stupid. --"CURtalk 16:56, 13 February 2009 (EST)
Heh, I was thinking of things like the school shootings embarrassment, that sort of thing. Hell, back before the NotBK, I almost boycotted CP over that. ħumanUser talk:Human 23:43, 12 February 2009 (EST)

Suggestion[edit]

Could someone create a site-wide announcement? I feel like it would be easy to miss this when it's on.

Also, I'm going to begrudgingly comply, even though my hands instinctively go to CP after my email and YouTube. The things I do for you strangers. - Jpop (talk) 00:11, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

I agree. Completely ineffective and pointless if not done correctly. A date should be set far in advance with tips for not checking CP given out in full detail. RatMaster háblame 00:16, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
Also, mite b cool if someone with strong wiki-fu and privileges to change technical aspects of the wiki could make it so links to CP take you instead to Conservapedia:Boycott, or at least to an intermediate page confirming that the reader wants to break the boycott, similar to how following an external link on Wikia will take you to an ad before your final destination. As it is now, it's far too easy to overlook the boycott. Syndrome (talk) 04:31, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
