I notice that[edit]

I notice that User:Totnesmartin created a red link for this article at United States... does that imply something will be written here soon? humanUser talk:Human 12:06, 1 November 2007 (EDT)

for once, yes. Wikipedia does have a few unfilled redlinks that i just never got round to filling. You guys got lucky though... Totnesmartin 12:15, 1 November 2007 (EDT)
hahahaha, thanks... humanUser talk:Human 12:17, 1 November 2007 (EDT)

Jesusland reminds me of the new borders I drew for the US back in college (separating the US from the new CSA). The borders were pretty much the Potomac, Ohio, Missouri, and Colorado rivers, with a few drawn in lines connecting them (a small stretch of the Mississippi between the Missouri and Ohio, and perhaps the Continental Divide filling most of the gap between the Colorado and Missouri). I still stand by it. DickTurpis 14:14, 1 November 2007 (EDT)

Is Canada 'totally blue?
BTW: In the UK Blue is the colour of the Conservative (slightly left wing) party and red of the Labour (also slightly left wing) party. SusanYou don't have to talk, but ... 17:09, 1 November 2007 (EDT)
I'm sure Canada has their own spectrum, but compared to Jesusland they are rampant socialists. I mean, come on, they have our socialized medicine thing and all. Oh, the colors aren't "of the parties" - they were picked by tv news people. Ironic, really, that the party on the right got the color associated with commyism. humanUser talk:Human 17:24, 1 November 2007 (EDT)
Alberta, Canada's most right-wing state, is included in Jesusland on some maps. And it's got oil. Totnesmartin 08:30, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

Jesusland flat?[edit]

It's got the Rockies for chrissakes. DickTurpis 11:09, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

Hehe, yeah, and the Appalachians. And Ozarks. And, I think, the Cascades. I guess we need to try to make the snarky parts of the article better... humanUser talk:Human 11:31, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

Alberta[edit]

Alberta should be a part of Jesusland. It has plenty of fundies and oil barons. BassoonsAreSexy 20:05, 26 December 2007 (EST)

It should be either in Jesusland or in the United States of Logic and Reason, right now it's in the former in the Canuck version and in the latter in the 'murican one. Take a pick. ScepticWombat (talk) 18:25, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Great big Texas?[edit]

Is it just me or is the shape of Jesusland (minus Alaska) vaguely similar to the shape of Texas, but enlarged & stretched out? It's like Texas just kept growing til it swallowed half the country. weaseLOIdWeaselly.jpg~ 20:02, 27 October 2008 (EDT)

Culture...[edit]

Serious question. Why is it okay to make fun of poor white people? If someone were to write a section in an article about African-Americans about watermelon, fried chicken that sho-nuff good eatin', bling, basketball and welfare, we'd vape it in a second. Is it anyone's fault that they have different cultural capital? Is it right to make fun of one type of cultural capital and hold it up to scorn as compared to another? A lot of the humour in this piece speaks to why "those people" hold "us" in such contempt as Volvo-driving, latte-drinking, NPR-listening, arugula eating assholes. Because, well, we are--classist, elitist, and intolerant in our own way. TheoryOfPractice 13:54, 8 February 2009 (EST)

We are making fun of rascist, intolerant, anti-science, right-wing authoritarian bigots. Got a problem with that? I believe that that is part of our mission. In our own way, yes, we are intolerant. As I have pointed out numerous times. But this is different- we are poking fun at something that it is in our mission to poke fun at. If someone made an article like you said above, I would support trying to determine if it was harmless snark or if there was actually a problem. --"CURtalk 13:57, 8 February 2009 (EST)
Not entirely CUR-parts of this article are making fun of people who are poor and uneducated BECAUSE they are poor and uneducated. Walmart? Incest? Beer drinking? Getting bitten by skeeters? Keepin' nutty ole Cousin Zeke locked in the basement, only cuz there ain't no room for him and Gramma Tizzie in the attic? Sheep lovin'? Billy Ray Cyrus singin'? NONE of these have anything to do with anti-science, right-wings, authoritarianism or anything besides making fun of poor people and piling on tired old stereotypes on people who are different. TheoryOfPractice 14:05, 8 February 2009 (EST)
TOP, I LIVE in Jesusland. Most of that is true. I am not offended in the least by the parts that aren't- it is amusing. Ever watch Comedy Central's 'Chocolate News?' I don't, but the guy who runs it is black, and the whole point is to poke fun at stereotypes. I poke fun at my religion all the time- look at my user page under 'Parody evil Jewish Conspiracy.' For Darwin's sake! --"CURtalk 14:08, 8 February 2009 (EST)
Are you a poor white person? Cubic cubic Phantom Hoover! 14:13, 8 February 2009 (EST)
It is making fun of those who live in Jesusland. Which I do. And see above. --"CURtalk 14:13, 8 February 2009 (EST)
Most of that is true? Some of those stereotypes could equally fit poor people 'round the liberal bastion where I live. And if you want incest, look at the Royal Family before looking at Cousin Zeke. Making fun of people for shopping at Walmart (i.e. because they're poor) or listening to bad country music (because they have poor taste) is problematic for the same reason that fried chicken, basketball and watermelon are... And nope, haven't watched Comedy Central, or anything else besides the occasional sporting event (at the bar or a friend's place) for over a decade. TheoryOfPractice 14:15, 8 February 2009 (EST)
Just because you live in Jesusland (specifically, Missouri) doesn't give you the right to mock everyone in it, especially as you are evidently not a member of the group you are mocking. Cubic cubic Phantom Hoover! 14:17, 8 February 2009 (EST)

(EC) I also make jokes using Jewish stereotypes. I am Jewish. --"CURtalk 14:19, 8 February 2009 (EST)

(EC) The point still is that stereotypes are used to deflate themselves. I looked at the article. It isn't saying 'white poor people are evil.' It says, 'ha-ha-ha, let's laugh at these funny stereotypes.' I have no problem someone jokingly making a joke about Jews taking over the world, as long as they don't actually believe it. The things that aren't true, people know we are not serious about. --"CURtalk 14:19, 8 February 2009 (EST)
How are they supposed to know which ones those are? I'm with TOP on this, it could use some cleaning up. ħumanUser talk:Human 15:43, 8 February 2009 (EST)

(unident) Do nothing to the lulz! If anything, make it more obvious that we are joking. --"CURtalk 15:52, 8 February 2009 (EST)

Just butting in to say this was written by a poor white person - me. you are welcome to write about chavs if you like, except that they don't form a political bloc and thus deserve an RWian snarkfutation. Totnesmartin 16:12, 8 February 2009 (EST)
Well said, well said. --"CURtalk 16:14, 8 February 2009 (EST)
How about you make your "lulz" funny, so people can tell? Also, are you actually ordering "everyone else" not to delete something if they don't think it belongs? Also, it was funnier and more on point before you added a bunch of "not very funnies" to the Culture section. ħumanUser talk:Human 16:35, 8 February 2009 (EST)

Fun?[edit]

This should be Fun space - by my reckoning. AceX-102 21:43, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Seconded, with the link from the mainspace remaining. Lord Goonie Hooray! I'm helping! 21:45, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Let us have a thirded! AceX-102 21:46, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Disagree. The bit with the signs is way mission. Probably should be split into a fun article and a horrifying truth article - David Gerard (talk) 21:47, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm. Good point, David. Perhaps that is a better solution? Jebusland is the nutter region of the US. Lord of the Goons The official spikey-haired skeptical punk 21:57, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Then it'll need some work. AceX-102 22:00, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

No mention[edit]

No mention of inbreeding (persons are their own second cousins 30 ways)? 212.85.6.26 (talk) 18:31, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Colorado[edit]

Can we color it purple? Not only because the name of the state means "Colored" but also because the state has been swinging away from Jesusland in the last several elections, and it contains both (what some may argue as) the most liberal/left/atheist city in the nation (Boulder) as well as the most conservative/right/religious city in the nation (Colorado Springs).

Or redefine the map (cuz it looks a few years old)? -- Seth Peck (talk) 17:33, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

The term is strictly defined as the states that went for Bush in 2004 so if we stick to that sense recoloring Colorado would be rewriting history. As you're implying the real world is far more nuanced: California is non-Jesusland but has uber-conservative Orange County (not to mention megachurches). Iowa is Jesusland by the strict definition but one of its senators is the liberal Tom Harkin and they launched Obama into the limelight in the 2008 caucuses. And so on. Doctor Dark (talk) 04:48, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Reversion[edit]

Why was this reverted? Proxima Centauri (talk) 16:31, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Cause it adds nothing that isn't in the article?Evil fascistoh noez 16:36, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

It's funny that none of you has the guts to say this about Islam. Ever ask yourself why it's not scary making fun of the Jesus people? Looking over your shoulder because you wrote this article? Of course not. I lived 30 years int e Bible Belt and hate it. I'm glad I live in a progressive part of the country. But I can't take the intellectual dishonesty. You want to blame it all on Christians. Islam is oppressed by the evil Christian. Islam with their progressive ideals of torturing homosexuals, murdering Jews and oppressing women. It all comes fro the fact that you're upset with Andy. Well don't worry about it. By the sound of it the two of you are so deep in the closet, you're in the hatbox

There's quite a bit of criticism on the site for Islamic fundamentalism. Difference is, Islamic fundamentalism doesn't dominate a large part of the US the way Christian fundamentalism does.--Pere Ubu (talk) 16:53, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

Alaska and Washington DC[edit]

Both of them should be blue.

Alaska may be redneck, but it greatly lacks in fundamentalism and is one of the least religious states. Don't let Sarah Palin fool you. Washington DC has voted against the GOP since 1964. Why the f*ck is it red?

Same with Nevada. It is less religous than Pennsylvania, New York, Rhode Island, and California, which are blue on the map. Nevada should be blue. — Unsigned, by: 68.5.41.61 / talk 00:47, 12 December 2013‎

Joke[edit]

Someone explain the "blue one way or another" joke to me. I don't get it.DrunkBrain (talk) 02:09, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

Maybe cuz they'll end up under water? I dunno, that's all I got... --Inquisitor (talk) 02:40, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
Sounds plausible. I need to find the person who wrote that joke, and get them to explain it to me. DrunkBrain (talk) 11:13, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
