2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

The Independent Institute is a libertarian think tank which, according to its website, has offered the world "25 years of enlightening ideas" thus far. Its lighthouse logo is a reference to the debunking of the idea that lighthouses are public goods.[1] The Institute is known for pushing various brands of crankery, including Robert B. Stinnett's[2] work advancing the Pearl Harbor conspiracy theory and Thomas DiLorenzo's[3] neo-Confederate rambling. Being a good libertarian think tank, the Institute also denies global warming, hawking books by noted deniers such as Patrick Michaels.[4]
