Talk:Sexual identity
?[edit]
Is this even a thing? Isn't it "sexual orientation identity"? Or something? I've never heard of "sexual identity". — Haamer (talk) 07:10, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

- Okay, so sexual identity is not synonymous with orientation. Why does this article here imply that it is? (Actually I'm not sure what it's implying, the sentence is quite confusing.) — Haamer (talk) 09:25, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- Probably because the language around sexuality and gender is constantly evolving, and differs from country to country. It's also politicised to an extent that can't be ignored without producing a very bland article. Sophiebecause liberals 20:53, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- If there's scope for an article, it will need a lot of expanding. Otherwise, I say merge it into sexual orientation. WěǎšěǐǒǐďMethinks it is a Weasel 20:56, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Beyond the toilet[edit]
Is there more to say about this than restrooms? If not, the article could be moved to a more precise title. Annquin (talk) 14:38, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
- If you're asking if the term "sexual identity" is encompassed entirely under the wider umbrella topic of "restrooms", then... No. Not at all. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 15:21, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
- I wondered if someone would like to write more (i.e. non-restroom content). As 90% of the current article is about restrooms so I was going to suggest a restroom-specific article but I just noticed we also have a (better) article Transphobia and public restrooms. Overlap? Annquin (talk) 16:07, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
- Haha, I know. I was just teasing a little. :3 Now; you're absolutely right that the Sexual identity article needs to be filled with a lot more stuff that has nothing to do with restrooms (per se). Regarding what belongs in the Sexual identity article; everything from otherkin to the differences between straight-bi-gay, male-female-apache helicopter... And wow, I didn't know/remember we had an actual article on the sexual identity/restroom issue? If so, it's possible that quite a lot of the current Sexual identity article ought to merged to there. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 16:16, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
- As a majority author of that section, I'd have no objection to my text being merged into Transphobia and public restrooms. I wish its title were Transphobia and public toilets, however. Do Americans really go to those places to rest? I doubt it. Ithaca8 (talk) 17:39, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
- ...And a parkway's where you drive, and a driveway's where you park! Crazy Americans *shakes head*... Reverend Black Percy (talk) 18:43, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Gender Identity[edit]
This article, which I haven't looked at in a long time, now seems to conflate sexual identity with gender identity. I'm pretty sure those are separate things. Although, given how little there is to say about sexual identity, I suggest it might be merged with the article on sexual orientation. --ShorinBJ (talk) 09:05, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
- You're right. Moved to Transgender. Bicyclewheel 09:46, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Sqrt-1 my friend...[edit]
Line added by Sqrt-1 | From the Wikipedia article on Sexual identity |
Historical models of sexual identity view its formation as a process undergone mostly by sexual minorities, while more contemporary models view the process as more universal and attempt to present sexual identity within the larger scope of other major identity theories and processes.[1][2] | Historical models of sexual identity have tended to view its formation as a process undergone only by sexual minorities, while more contemporary models view the process as far more universal and attempt to present sexual identity within the larger scope of other major identity theories and processes.[3] |
@Sqrt-1Dude, I don't mean to be combative.

- Simplified the line and rephrased it. I copy and paste the information I need to present, and present a coherent paragraph of it later. I am still not done with this page... yet... — 𝗦𝗾𝗿𝘁-𝟭 talk stalk 03:27, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- I would optimally copy and paste multiple lines from a source, other lines from another source, and then fuse them together to make a statement of fact. But this time, there is literally no sources on this topic. The planned parenthood link talks about general LGBT topics ie. differentiating gender from sex and the kids helpline article is written like a, well, a kids helpline. I found this https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3215279/ helpful though. — 𝗦𝗾𝗿𝘁-𝟭 talk stalk 03:42, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
