When does life begin[edit]
Nice one, squire. Seriously, thanks for expanding on the very skeletal start I made. Bob Soles 23:10, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Not a problem. I should apologise for Americanising it, my browser defaults to US spellings and after one or two I just decided to roll with it for consistency. I spotted the email on the talk page and was wondering whether you were wanting to take more of that info - all I've done is really added what I know. postate 23:11, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- What your adding is great - I don't want to steal any more from Scott Gilbert - Serious readers should go there directly. This is all fallout from my debate with Earthland and a bit of poking around trying to get the scientific consensus (or lack of it) to counter the life begins at conception mantra. Bob Soles 23:15, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- The thing is, the whole "life begins" question gets answered very early in the article. It's not a point, it's a process. Just with abiogenesis, it's not a point it's a process. That's why people who like things clear-cut and black and white have issues with this sort of thing. We can expand beyond this slightly although I'd need to dig up references for it; namely that sentience doesn't begin until after someone is born. Experiments on very young children involving memory seem to suggest that babies have a lower level of sentience than monkeys. Indeed, we are all born prematurely because of our large heads (you have to take the loaf out of the oven before it's risen too much to fit through the oven door, basically). You see animals give birth in the wild and the young are up and running in minutes, for us we're useless for months on end (or decades for some). We're certainly not the same as we are when we're born by any stretch of the imagination. postate 23:21, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Life begins about 3.5 billion years ago and hasn't stopped yet. Only individuals die, the molecule we exist to replicate lives on... ħuman 23:42, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the stable atoms live on, it's likely the molecules go through some considerable rearrangement. postate 23:51, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the quarks live on, some of the atoms decay ;). I should said "the molecular pattern" and even that would have been wrong... ħuman 00:14, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello[edit]
I jut thought that I'd write something nice on your talk page as you wrote something on mine. It's all strange here being the "new being" and all and it's so nice when people take the time to say hello. Did you know that there's a lot of prejudice against aliens on this planet? You tell people you're and alien and they pretend not to see you. Of course, that may be because I'm invisible a lot of the time but it's not really an excuse, is it? But now that I've grown a body I'm sure that things will be a lot better. Thank you again so much for saying hello. Bye. Bye.--Skynet 22:01, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Holocaust denial[edit]
Hi. I thought I'd stop by as you commented on something I wrote on the HD talk page. As you're a highly-qualified chemist, you would be in a position to make useful comments on Leuchter's and Rudolf's reports on the chemical residues. Cheers. Qwertyuiop 10:52, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
- You mean the Prussian Blue thing? Yes. In my professional opinion, it's total and utter bullshit. You don't even need to know anything about chemistry to know that Leuchter didn't actually prove anything - they have to show that the compound must form in the conditions used in the gas chambers, something that has little evidence to back it up as certainly putting some cyanide into a brick building isn't the best or most reliable way of producing it. However, from a chemical perspective this is pretty thorough, although it doesn't conclusively disprove what Leuchter claims (in so much that it can't really be disproved for various reasons), it shifts the burden of proof even more on to the shoulders of people who bring it up in Holocaust denial. postate 12:46, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Points[edit]
Hey, what system do you propose for assigning fundie points to creationist organizations?--Mustex 03:29, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
- To be honest I have no idea... I suppose marking them out of 10 along similar lines to the Article of the Weak stuff. But they'd probably get 10 out of 10 on everything. postate 14:29, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Brain 3d[edit]
If you want to play around with the brain I can give you the .blend file. I don't really want to put it up in a public location though, and it's pretty big anyway. -- Nx / talk 18:11, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

- A .blend file should be fine. Do you know how big it is if you export as .obj? postate 19:37, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- 22 megabytes. The blend file is 11 if I compress it. I'll email you the download link. I can export it into a different format btw, but I don't know how well the materials will survive the conversion (on the other hand, if you use a different renderer it won't matter anyway). -- Nx / talk 19:51, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- 22Mb for an .obj isn't that bad, I once managed one that was nearly 200Mb thanks to an accident with ZBrush. If you can export to a Lightwave object (.lwo) that'd be great, but otherwise the Blender file or the obj would be fine. I can redo the materials no problem. postate 20:15, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

- I'm with you on points A & B. I reckon a lot of other editors probably are as well; it's just that the people obsessing over MC are being a lot more vocal & filling up recent changes. The best way to deal with it is just ignore that crap & try to generate interest in something more productive, like a new article on a hot toic. Taking a break is fair enough as well. It would be a shame to leave the site altogether as there are some fun people here (& not just in a lame lulz way) & some worthwhile things going on now & then if you look out for them among the silliness. Why does everyone hang around the Saloon bar expecting someone to post something to entertain them instead of finding something to do? I would rather have half the number of editors who were working towards improving the site, than to have the "for lulz" people who feed trolls when they are bored. - π 06:59, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Clouds so swift, rain won't lift
Gate won't close, railings froze
Get your mind off wintertime

Strap yourself to the tree with roots

Tomorrow's the day my bride's gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair?

- That's amusing. I thought this was about something else and I was going to comment "that's a fun little song". Didn't expect it to be the lyrics... ħuman 02:00, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
A song[edit]
You got mail.
Also,
My baby drove up in a brand new cadillac.
My baby drove up in a brand new Cadillac
She said, "Hey, come here, Daddy!"
"I ain't never comin' back!"
Baby, baby, won't you hear my plea?
C'mon, sugar, just come on back to me
She said, "Balls to you, Big Daddy."
She ain't never coming back!
Baby, baby, won't you hear my plea?
Oh c'mon, just hear my plea
She said, "Balls to you, Daddy."
She ain't coming back to me
Baby, baby drove up in a Cadillac
I said, "Jesus Christ! Where'd you get that cadillac?"
She said, "Balls to you, Daddy."
She ain't never coming back!
-Brand New Cadillac, the Clash
