- These days, I'm all about what was the "New Thing" back in the day -- Archie Shepp, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Eric Dolphy, Albert Ayler. Sun Ra is huge, as is 'Trane, especially when he had Dolphy in his band (This is playing as we speak...). Ornette, but I really like Old and New Dreams more than the classic Ornette quartet these days, and I just bought a nice trio session with Dewey Redman and Blackwell and some bass player who isn't Charlie Haden that has some of that vibe. I really, really like anything that Haden does--his work with Don Cherry, his stuff with Joe Henderson, his piano duets with Hank Jones and Kenny Barron...also, Miles with Wayne Shorter et al. They just released some radio broadcasts from 1967 that are the shit. Duke Ellington was always avant-garde. Who are you listening to? B♭maj7 (talk) Anachronistically anachronistic 21:58, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- Not any jazz recently, actually. Come to think of it, not a whole lot of music at all this past week. I just put on Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 85-92 to remedy that. And then I'll put on On the Corner, since I haven't really listened to that much since I got it a few months ago. I've been meaning to get into Eric Dolphy; what's a good album to start with? I don't really care how accessible it is, as long as it's good. HolyKatana (talk) 22:21, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

You can be a real asshole[edit]
Guy expands article to include Rachel Carson. He then realizes that most of what he adds would be better in the Rachel Carson article, and that we shouldn't have repeat article subsections. You steamroll over him without even thinking about what happened. Try and open up your mind a bit from now on, especially towards new users. Nukes[edit]
I've balanced out some of what Tweenk has written, but the general gist seems to check out, though I'm still pretty much a neophyte on nuclear power. I read James Hansen's Storms of my Grandchildren recently, which is supportive of nuclear power as part of the solution. Brave New Climate has some further reading and George Monbiot has a brief rebuttal to some anti-nuke arguments. I don't think we should just start firing up the nukes everywhere, but most of the pro-nuke arguments not coming from the nuke industry shills seem to agree with me. I think counting it out of our arsenal totally is a mistake. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 05:18, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Ward Churchill[edit]
Thanks..I was maybe thinking of taking that part out myself, or at least noting the difficulties in proving ones Native ancestry. I don't know how far to go in ripping apart that trashy hatchet job of an article and rewriting it, given who the two main authors of that article are (hint: they're both jerks, the only two people I've ever had serious run-ins with around here). Anyway, thanks for the assistance :) Maybe we can turn it into a good article. Secret Squirrel (talk) 01:25, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
- That'a what wikis are all aboot. As for Churchill's ethnic background, if other Native groups have made an issue about his identity, it might be noteworthy. But if it's just conservatives saying "where's the birth certificate!!1!!11", well, then, who cares? B♭maj7 (talk) Anachronistically anachronistic 01:56, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
- As best I can tell the issue was first raised by a couple of Native activists, but didn't get any attention until after the 2005 manufactroversy when the Rocky Mountain News took it up. Then again, AIM has been notoriously fractious and has had different factions accusing each other of being federal agents or not being Native, so this is probably a take-with-grain-of-salt thing. I don't know the Rocky Mountain News' political leanings, if any. Secret Squirrel (talk) 02:27, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
