You do have complete control over everything in the space 2 that has your name, it is just space 3 like all the odd number space are community property. 199.33.173.1 08:28, 7 April 2009 (EDT) — Unsigned, by: Π / talk / contribs

- Here you said "I do not accept that the ultimate control of user space should be under anyone but the user" which is true as user space is space 2. User talk space is a clearly distinct space at a database level and is given the id space 3. Just because your name is next doesn't make it the same space. - User 06:45, 8 April 2009 (EDT)

3 Months[edit]
A little ambitious. If you block yourself for months you will be unblocking twice a week. I tend to block myself for about a week at a time, get a few things done, then come back and carry on as before. I find it is good as you get a whole week rather than a few day which is what you get with a longer block. - User 09:18, 12 April 2009 (EDT)
- I wasn't honestly expecting to be gone 3 months at all, but I'm starting to scare even myself with far too much time spent adding details to articles on certain subjects (more details in private email.) Couldn't resist unblocking myself temporarily to throw in a comment about Sea Shepherd though. I'll be taking a break for a while. Besides, spring fever is setting in and that means its time to get outside and get back in shape. Secret Squirrel 09:37, 12 April 2009 (EDT)

Proposed award[edit]
I'm thinking of proposing you for "RationalWiki editor of the Millenium" or some such tripe. You exemplify our mission in so many ways with your contributions, and more importantly, don't appear to know or care what a thing called "conservapedia" is. Don't hide your nuts for now, I appreciate your endless additions of corrupt politicians, "religious leaders", and various and sundry movements against rationality to this site. I would actually recommend a newcomer to check your contribs if they "wanted to know what the site was about". You can stop blushing now. Comments?
- "Conservapedia"...oh yeah, that :) Truth be told I stopped paying attention to it a while back because it's about 0.0001% of all the woo and crankery out there, and this site has potential to be much more than just the anti-Conservapedia. No awards plzkthnks though, that cheese-eating Wikipedia "defender of the wiki barnstar" stuff is for the birds :) Secret Squirrel 04:19, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Talkpage archiving[edit]
I remember you once said that you have a preference just to let everything that is more than a certain page to just roll of the page. Linking to hate sites[edit]
All external links are rel=nofollow, so that's not a reason to not link to them. Using tinyurl makes baby Jesus cry, so if we must link to them, let's do it properly. -- Nx / talk 12:33, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Okie dokey :) I saw most of the Fred Phelps sites are already linked through tinyurl though. Secret Squirrel (talk) 12:34, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- I was not aware of that. I thought we didn't link to them at all. -- Nx / talk 12:36, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- There is a whole list of Phelps sites linked from Fred Phelps, via URL redirect. Should the links go entirely, left as is, or what? Secret Squirrel (talk) 12:38, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- I don't know, I'm just saying that using tinyurl is completely pointless, and it's a bad thing anyway. -- Nx / talk 12:41, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm just going to leave them alone for now, but my own opinion is the Phelps links should go entirely. Maybe this is a borderline case. I don't care much for tinyurl, bit.ly and such either but had assumed (incorrectly) this was the best way to link *if* a hate site link was deemed necessary. Secret Squirrel (talk) 13:00, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- That's certainly what editors used to do in the days of WIGO 4th Reich. Maybe the rel=nofollow thing wasn't in place then, or maybe it was just cybersuperstition. WëäŝëïöïďMethinks it is a Weasel 13:26, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

- I guess I'm a bit too lazy to separate the good stuff from the bull. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 11:10, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
- There are some writers there whom I rarely disagree with - Laurence Vance, Becky Akers and Butler Shaffer come to mind, not to mention they've published Glenn Greenwald, Cindy Sheehan, Chris Hedges, Kirkpatrick Sale, Howard Zinn...and anyone who favorably cites Benjamin Tucker and Rudolf Rocker can't be all bad. Normally the level of bull on a site like that would be a deal-killer but I dunno. The woo promotion and neo-Confederatism both seem to come from a reflexive anti-statism that says that because the government says x is good and y is bad, then the opposite is true, and some of it I just don't understand why they clutter the site up with at all. Their early 1990s alliance with paleocons and right wing populism, on the other hand, was inexcusable and completely counterproductive, and iirc brought a lot of really bad elements into the libertarian movement that are still a problem. Beyond Radicals for Capitalism, I've read Selling the Free Market. Is there anything else you would consider essential reading on the libertarian movement? Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 04:22, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

- Been there, done that. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 04:25, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Radicals for Capitalism is the really essential one. Also try The Ayn Rand Cult by Jeff Walker, for specifically the Objectivism movement. Jerome Tuccille's It Usually Begins With Ayn Rand should be mentioned - it's a funny and snarky take on 1960s-1970s libertarians and some of the nuts they attracted. I've not read Selling the Free Market. Secret Squirrel (talk) 10:29, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Selling the Free Market isn't strictly about libertarianism, but much of what the author calls "economic correctness" was generated from that milieu. Will check out some of the ones you listed, thanks. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 01:09, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Paramilitary woo[edit]
I don't know if this is what you're going for, but I wrote up a section on pseudopsychology in the military and security forces that might be helpful. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 00:46, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

"Finally getting around to this, and honestly I don't know where to begin. Making an attempt at a start." I think it's a pretty good start! Have you read The Book of Five Rings?
