ref = name[edit]

I forgot how to do "ref = name" for citing one reference more than one time. Any chance you know of an article off the top of your head that uses it? Thanks in advance. Pink mowse.pngGodot Warning, chocolate will make your clothes shrink 17:48, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't know much about them. I only found out about them due to some incident where they boycotted a hotel over some S&M event.Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 23:47, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Excellent. what better to do with your life than boycott a hotel that you will never visit anyhow, cause you are too fucking cheep ass and xenophobic to get out into the world and see life -- boycott a hotel, cause they like to use paddles and walk around in leather! I should boycott something. but what?--Pink mowse.pngGodot Warning, chocolate will make your clothes shrink 23:52, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Wow[edit]

That WND link about the NCSF is impressively balanced for WND! They didn't even take the low road and quote-mine the fuck out of Susan Wright.ADK...I'll pull yourPontiac! 08:48, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Although the related one is funny on the grounds of "this is sick and wrong and no one should ever be involved... so let's describe it in as much juicy detail as possible!" The Daily Mail would be proud. ADK...I'll snap your t-shirt!08:50, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
This is one of the cases where quote mining would defeat their purpose -- they need to give their readers as much fodder for voyeurism as possible. Whips! Candle wax! Gays! Cover your eyes, chillun, the freaks are about! Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 09:03, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
I've never quite understood the voyeurism. Yes, there are plenty of curtain twitchers out there but I don't get it. It's not like they need all the information they can get in order to refute it or anything like that, and of course you can moralise without giving a citation in full. ADK...I'll crystallize your crab cake! 09:12, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Shock value -- it mobilizes the base. You can't properly moralize without all the sordid details. The funny thing is that a lot of the what goes on at these types of events is the most hardcore stuff because the potentially really dangerous things are generally done with professionals, for obvious reasons. Religion space[edit]

FYI, i'm being very careful about these cats. Creationism is in both christainity and it's own space. Both of those are in the Cat religion- so they don't need to be duplicated. The "religion" non sub space is for things that are specific to all religions. :-)

as I said on b-flat's page, I was feeling really guilty about the total slash job I've been part of for now 2 days. A cautionary tale that might interest you[edit]

A friend of mine had to transfer out of his PhD programme a while back. His professor was looking for a sub, so he made arrangements with an escort on Craigslist. She was apparently really inexperienced at the whole sex work thing, as well as a student @ the same university; drawbacks of a small college town and shitting where you eat. Things got out of hand, she got hurt, lodged a complaint with the cops, and, after the trial, buddy was stuck with an advisor who is now a convicted sex criminal and well-known as such in a very, very, very small academic world where everybody knows everybody. So he had to bail out. Lesson: stick with the pros, don't deal with some amateur.B♭maj7 (talk) Anachronistically anachronistic 04:44, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't go near Craigslist. My current mistress has been on the scene since before I got my driver's license. Though if anyone's going to get hurt, it's likely to be me. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 04:54, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Yeah Higurashi certainly has it's dark moments. There's actually some very good anime out there to mess with your mind when playing with recreational pharmaceuticals. We should draw up a list. --PsyGremlinKhuluma! 16:56, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

At the risk of being rather old school, have you tried the Elephants on Parade sequence from Dumbo whilst chemically enhanced? Of course it's just a Disney cartoon so it couldn't possibly be dark. Bad Faith (talk) 17:00, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

"thinking in words and pictures"[edit]

From my own studies of cognition, I would take criticism on this article though -- it's pretty evident people do not think in words (or pictures?); that is the 2nd step, and how the thoughts are translated in their heads. there is something that Pinker has called "meta thought" (If i remember right) in trying to describe the fact that thought happens both without our awareness of it, and in non-language. As I'm writing this, i feel "as if" the thoughts are comming into my head just as I type the words. even when i make typos. but clearly, something is there before hand. So I did want to tell this guy that "no, we really do not necessarily think differently" (his argument on "some people can only think in words, and that limits them), but that we process those pre thoughts differently. --Pink mowse.pngGodotGet over it!. 02:12, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

True, I just haven't seen a better first-hand account. For me, math and language are the same thing, just symbolic interpretations of mental "pictures." Pinker also argues in Stuff of Thought that much of "abstract" thought is based on visual metaphor because, obviously, we didn't evolve in an environment where discussing Plato was necessary for survival. I imagine there's some continuum of auditory vs. visual thinking, though, and I'm on the hyper-visual end of it like the author of the essay, because it seems to be totally alien to a lot of people. I actually can't understand any abstract concepts without some kind of picture. You probably know more about this than me, though.Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 02:49, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
My hubby would love you. he always talks that math and language are the same (and he speaks like 6 languages, and wanted to go into math math, but the competition in france is killer, so he went puters). and yeah, the article really expressed it well. --Pink mowse.pngGodotGet over it!. 04:13, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
