The opinions of a non-US citizen[edit]

You know, from my distance in far flung NZ (...here be the dragons...), I can't understand you Americans. As individuals you are smart, good people (in general) but as a nation you are panicky, hysterical and fickle. So easily swayed but the whims of pink-faced halfwits that parade themselves on TV and stoke your fears. Your political system is so fucked and broken by the corporate needs and media spectacles that it seems, to other western countries, that the nation that brought as western liberal democracy has strayed so far from its original ideals as to almost be a parody of itself. Aceword up 21:19, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. During a history lecture on the Cold War we were discussing the effect it had on American politics, and the lecturer commented that American politics has always had a paranoid streak. I found myself nodding along. EddyP (talk) 21:40, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Dude, 2008 is so two years ago. Hell, 6:55 PM is so two minutes ago. You need to think more reactionary than that. sterile tire 22:57, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." -- Kevin Brown, Men in Black CS Miller (talk) 23:04, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
The real problem is that a large majority of our citizens who are passionate about voting today will resume normal behavior tomorrow, which essentially means running as fast as possible from anything political. Most Americans don't pay any attention to the general state of things and as a result, their general knowledge level is god-awful. SirChuckBObama/Biden? 2012 04:55, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

PA isn't looking as great, as Chester, Lancaster and Montgomery Counties are what's left to count, and will likely go Republican Toomey. Still, it's a lot closer than most people thought. 03:01, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Damn the PA race was close. My roommate is pretty pissed about the result. (He was a bit Sestak fan.) Tetronian you're clueless 04:00, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank fuck those damned halfwits O'Donnell and Angle were rousted. Aceword up 04:40, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Made my night. I'm not a huge Reid fan, but of the competitive races, this was #1 on my wish list. I needed to see condemnation of batshit craziness from at least one state other than Delaware. My drunkenness is now a celebratory rather than pain-numbing. DickTurpis (talk) 04:46, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
It looks like Bennet is headed for a victory in Colorado as well. They're neck-and-neck right now, but most of the outstanding votes are in two heavily Democratic counties (Boulder and Denver). Röstigraben (talk) 07:08, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Let me just say...[edit]

I have to admit, the BBC's election coverage is ten times better than any of the American coverage. It's hysterical to watch the BBC newscasters figure out the election mid-coverage. Somehow they manage to do that and still give a great show. Tetronian you're clueless 02:54, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Plus, on the BBC the blather is at least intelligent. Tetronian you're clueless 02:54, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Plus you get occasional snark, done in excellent British style.--Stunteddwarf Spirit of the Cherry Blossom 03:03, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Actually... I've stayed with CNN tonight. The BBC has been almost too embarrassed to say anything, and while the CNN coverage has been awfully right-wing it's been unafraid to say what it thinks. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 03:09, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
