“”Whenever you put yourself out there to do anything, there's always someone who's going to, like, try and bring you down 'cause they've never done anything on their own. And so... if someone doesn't do anything, and they want to like, you know, I don't know, criticize, I have no time for them.

Elmer Earl "Butch" "I created your childhood" Hartman IV (1965–) is a once fairly popular but now washed-up and disgraced cartoonist best known for his work on Nickelodeon. Originally famous for his work on cartoon shows like Danny Phantom and The Fairly OddParents, he also has a YouTube channel with over 870,000 subscribers as of January 2024.[2] However, declining interest in his shows (his newest show Bunsen is a Beast received terrible reviews[3] while The Fairly OddParents is infamous for its seasonal decline)[4] on top of a number of scandals (detailed below) have derailed his reputation. Hartman and his wife are both born-again Christians, and they have recently created a series called The Garden for the Christian streaming service PureFlix.[5]
The OAXIS scam[edit]
In June 2018, Hartman released a Kickstarter for "OAXIS Entertainment". It promised a "family-friendly" streaming service that would allow users to upload their own content.[6] After raising over $268,000, a presentation was leaked in which Hartman said that OAXIS would be a Christian network, something that wasn't mentioned on the original Kickstarter.[7] Over 6 years later, the OAXIS website still has nothing to show, with the website still saying "Streaming service coming soon".[8] Due to the deceptive way it was marketed and nothing being accomplished with all the money, OAXIS is widely considered to be a scam.[9]
Praying away autism[edit]
Hartman is a firm believer in the healing power of prayer and has claimed that praying cured his wife's fibromyalgia. He and his wife started a website that was focused on the supposed healing powers of prayer, which included such gems as autism supposedly being "cured" by prayer.[10]
Tracing and art theft[edit]
Hartman has been accused multiple times of tracing other people's artwork for commissions without the original artists' permission, which is a form of plagiarism.[11] He has also been accused of not paying an animator he commissioned, only paying up after said animator made a video with receipts saying what happened.[12]
Other facts[edit]
- Hartmann was on The Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour back in 1984, and won three thousand dollars during his appearance.[13]
- The character of Dr. Elmer Hartman on Family Guy is named after Butch, who is good friends with Seth McFarlane.[14]
