2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

Fereydoon Batmanghelidj (1931–2004) was an Iranian-born doctor, alternative medicine promoter, and HIV/AIDS denialist. He claimed that the true cause of many diseases is dehydration, and that many diseases can be cured simply by drinking large amounts of water. The Amazon reviews for his books include many anecdotes supposedly demonstrating this, involving diseases from asthma to heart disease. Unsurprisingly, drinking lots of water failed to prevent his own death from pneumonia-related complications.[1]

His daughter was Camila Batmanghelidjh (1963–2024), founder of the children's charity "Kids Company". Her philosophy was described as reactionary and pseudoscientific.[2]
