—Hercules (Kevin Sorbo), Hercules: The Legendary Journeys![]() |
Kevin Sorbo (1958–) is one of the world's foremost experts at playing limbo with his personal ethics and dignity. Just when you think he can't go lower, he fucking does.
Before exposing himself as a full-on Trump-humping Christian zealot, he was TV actor of some repute. In particular, he was best known for his two big TV roles; Hercules in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995–1999) and as Captain Dylan Hunt in Andromeda (2000–2005). Today he is more better known for taking part in shitty Christian films and spewing hateful shit on social media. Like Hulk Hogan, Sorbo is a proof that some of the best fictional heroes are played by the worst real-life people.
Not the most fun guy to be around with[edit]
By Sorbo's account, him quitting Hollywood was caused by his conservative and Christian views making him "unhirable" and that his agent and manager got him “blacklisted”. Sorbo would subsequently proclaim that he was “the first actor to get cancelled by woke mob/cancel culture.” Though it's more likely that Sorbo (like fellow Hollywood conservative James Woods) was difficult to work with, as there are documented on-set conflicts with co-stars and producers, as well as him pushing for more creative control. Also considering Sorbo's terrible behavior at social media, its not hard to conclude that he's been a real asshat behind the scenes.
In particular, he is known to be quite bitter towards Lucy Lawless, who is best known as Xena The Warrior Princess,
[note 1] with her character originating from Sorbo's Hercules show, before she got her own show. Sorbo has accused Lawless and the Xena TV show for not only stealing away the best film crew and the screenwriters, but also for failing to conform "family values" (due to its violence and for "pandering to lesbians"), which his show does. Their feud continued on Twitter, with Lawless' responses to Sorbo's accusations being basically "bitch, are you for real?"[2]
Even Michael Hurst, who was the co-star in Sorbo's Hercules TV series, initially tried to maintain a friendship, despite Sorbo's flaws. Hurst had enough when, during the COVID pandemic, Sorbo started to send him QAnon conspiracy theories by email, deeming Sorbo had gone off the deep end; the friendship ended there.[3]
Views[edit]
In addition to his bitterness towards Lucy Lawless, Sorbo spouts hateful bile on social media, much like James Woods.
In a 2014 interview, he defended Mel Gibson's 2004 film Passion of the Christ, in regards to anti-semitism about the film and its director. In his infinite wisdom, he answered by saying that he didn't understand why the Jewish community was upset about their portrayal in the film, then declaring that "News bulletin: you [Jews] did kill Jesus!”[4]
Instances of him being a abusive dick and spreading misinformation in the social media includes:
- Had some interesting things to say about the protests in Ferguson
, Missouri.[5]
- Implying that “leftist agitators” or Antifa, not Trump supporters, were responsible for storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.[6]
- Tweeting to former Vice President Kamala Harris that “if [she] really is black, have her say the N-word, let the people decide for themselves.”[7]
- Tweeted that abortion is “murder of the unborn” and there is “no debate here.”
- Criticized political parties and issues around immigration: for example, saying "a party that supports abortion over life, or illegal immigrants over citizens, cannot lecture him about morals."[8]
- He made a tweet referencing 50 Shades of Grey in relation to Trump’s controversial comments and asked rhetorically: “If women are upset at Trump’s naughty words, who … bought 80 million copies of 50 Shades of Gray?”
- COVID misinformation, with him also tweeting that the walked out of Starbucks rather than wear a mask, saying it was “BS.” His whole Facebook page was reportedly removed for violating policies on coronavirus or vaccine misinformation.
And last but not least, in a moment of stunning lack of self-awareness, Sorbo proclaimed that "the left can't make movies" in response to the 2025 live-action Snow White movie.[9][note 2] Which is a pretty bold statement, considering the absolutely dire state of his filmography. Speaking of which...
Filmography[edit]
Sorbo is best known for his TV roles with Hercules and Andromeda. He also played the leading role in the 1997 fantasy film Kull the Conqueror. During production of the film, he suffered 3 strokes due to complications from an arm aneurysm. After Andromeda ended in 2005, he would appear in couple of terrible parody movies, including Meet the Spartans
and An American Carol. He would play Hercules again in the 2010 video game, God of War III, but after that, he was practically irrelevant in the Hollywood spotlight.
Later on, he became quite a common name in Christsploitation. He is best known as the atheist professor from the first God's Not Dead movie, who is proven wrong and then fatally injured a car crash that leads to his deathbed conversion. Sorbo was apparently pretty proud for this role, as he later directed and stared in the 2017 film Let There Be Light,, which pretty much has the same premise, with an atheist almost getting killed by a car and then finding Christ.
In 2014, he had a notable part in a movie called Alongside Night, which is based on a late Libertarian/Agorist doofus J. Neil Schulman's
book. Although he is not the main character in a film - being sort of mysterious John Galt-like economic philosopher and father of the protagonist, who disappears for most of the film - Sorbo was heavily featured in the movie's promotional footage and its poster.
In 2019, he acted in a pro-second amendment Christian survivalist film called The Reliant.[10]
He also directed and appeared in the sequel to the rebooted Left Behind with Nic Cage, that was made with significantly lower budget (being crowd-funded and all.) In 2023, Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist
was released, which managed to make some $4 million at the box office.
In 2024, he took part in the movie The Firing Squad, that was produced by a subsidiary of The Epoch Times,
which is affiliated with Falun Gong.
